We will be driving from Northern NJ the day after Thanksgiving - will be leaving at around 3:00 am. We have three kids, all great travelers, and hope to make it to either Brunswick or Kingsland, GA the first day. Has anyone stayed in the Hampton Inns in either of these two places and which do you recommend? Should I make a reservation at both and see where we are by 5:30 PM and cancel one of them? DH says just "wing it" but I'm worried about not getting a room on Thanksgiving weekend.

I've stayed at the Hampton Inn in Brunswick. It's right off I-95 and I remember it was next to Burger King, which was great as we went throught the drive-thru and brought the food back to our room. It was very clean and we had connecting rooms. There was a nice breakfast in the morning, too. I'd recommend this one.

I know you are asking for Brunswick or Kingsland, but on our trip last month we stayed at a very nice Hampton Inn in Darien, GA, just north of where you are thinking. It is the exit with some outlets. There is a local bbq place across the street - Smokey Joe's - the food was very good.

You can go to their website www.hamptoninn.com

click on "find a hotel" on upper right

In find a hotel you can check two ways

enter only the state and you will get a listing of all inns in that state or

enter city and state

We always stay at the Hampton Inn in Brunswick--clean, safe, and also w/i walking Distance of Cracker Barrel and Shoney's.
Time wise--we leave the York Pa. area at 4:00 AM. We are checking in at the Hampton Inn usually around 4:30 or so in the PM. That includes a full breakfast stop, and stops every 2 hours for leg and back maintenance.
I'd make reservations if I were you. We "winged it" once before in May--and even on that non-holiday weekend the place was absolutely full by the time the evening rolled around.

Definitely make advance for the Hampton that you choose because these properties fill up very fast in the evenings especially during the times of the year when it gets dark much earlier in the evening.
