My family is going to DLR next March and I'm already starting the planning which includes looking at food options. I know at WDW the CS buns are all whole wheat. Is this the same at DLR or does it vary at different places?

My dad is unable to eat whole wheat so we really need to watch where we're going to eat.

Thanks!

I don't know if they are all whole wheat but you can ask for a gluten free bun and solve the problem that way. It takes a bit longer but they are good.

Thanks, bbangel, I didn't know that. I can't eat whole wheat bread either, and I know for certain that the hamburger buns at the Hungry Bears and I think the Tomorrowland Terrace have whole wheat buns.

Are the gluten free buns white? Thanks!

Edited to add: The hot dog buns at the Coke Corner are on white buns, I recall.

What is white bread made from, if it isn't wheat? I thought it was just bleached wheat (I am a hippie child and don't eat white bread, so I just assumed, and you know what they say...) that was (over) processed.

The whole wheat is made from the entire wheat grain, while the white is just the center without the husk. My youngest reacts really really badly to whole wheat but has no problems with white. I would so rather buy whole wheat.

Also there are a million other options besides hamburgers and hotdogs (even at the counter service locations), so he will have plenty of other options. Unless there is some reason that he really wants a hamburger or hotdog...? I don't think I have eaten either of those things in Disneyland in about 10 years.

There are certainly options that exclude buns from the equation completely. I love the salads, or Rancho Zocalo is wonderful! GF buns would work in a pinch I guess, but dd don't like them, and after waiting a while for them ate her burger off the bun!

If one of your children is sensitive to, as you put it, the whole grain, then you should think about just getting them completely off of wheat. After all, if they are sensitive to it now they more then likely will become more sensitive as they grow older.

My mother was diagnosed a few years back with Celiac Disease and ever since then she's been harping on me to go get tested. In lieu of visiting the doctor I just decided to eliminate gluten and wheat from my diet and see if anything changed. As it turned out, the dermatitis rashes I always seemed to get went away completely. Additionally, the constant heart burn I've lived with for over a decade went away.

After experiencing these health benefits from eliminating gluten and wheat from my diet I have become a staunch believer in gluten free and wheat free diets. Now, I think it's important to add that I do not know if I'm sensitive to gluten, or wheat or both but it's safe to say that since I eliminated these foods from my diet I feel much, much, much better. Did I mention I feel much better. :)

I will say this, since I live my life sans gluten and wheat I sometimes tend to indulge on special occasions. When I visit Disneyland my will power disappears and I tend to eat a bunch of foods I shouldn't. Regardless, I don't notice any ill effects right away but after a few days of eating these foods I will get the worst case of heart burn, the kind that keeps you from sleeping and requires a bottle full of Tums just to make it tolerable. I also notice that the dermatitis comes back but it can take a week or so for it to appear. Keep in mind that this is after a few days of heavy indulging, not just a single instance.

He's not sensitive to the entire wheat grain though. He seriously is absolutely fine with it once the bran & germ is gone....If it was a gluten issue the white would be just as bad if not worse. I'm thinking he'll probably grow out of it. His older brother grew out of his sesame allergy and my inlaws bought some bars with whole wheat in them when we were on vacation with them and he didn't react nearly as badly as he did as a toddler, just enough to start reading ingredients out of curiousity.

I'm glad going gluten free worked for you though :D If your mom has an issue with it and you feel better off of it I bet you do too. I'm allergic to egg whites and totally get what you mean about missing it....I miss omlettes often and I was pissed when they added egg white powder to the Cadbury Easter Creme eggs this year .

I should have further clarified. My dad has Crohn's disease so salads, taco chips, spices etc. are all out.

Going through the menus there is a nice variety out there for him but he does want to have a burger once of the trip.

We have it planned so he'll have fish one day, steak one day, sandwich on sourdough one day etc. but he's asking for one hotdog and one hamburger lol.

thanks for all the responses!
