Halloween?

Hi!
We have just had to cancel our holiday in late August to Menorca as my DD 4 has broken her arm.

We were thinking of taking her to DLRP during October instead to see the Pumpkin men. Last year we had a Castle Club Park View room at the DL Hotel courtesy of Tesco Clubcard (sadly no longer offering DLRP) It was fantastic!

She loved it and it would make up for missing her summer holiday.

Trouble is she starts school in Sept, only half days, but I dont know if I will get permission to take her out for 3 days.

Is half term (20 Oct onwards) really awful? Is it mobbed? We went early Nov last year and the crowds were ok but we only got one day of Halloween.

When during Halloween is best to go? (school permitting) and has anyone experience of half term in October?

Hi Mandy,

I have not been during half term so I don,t know how busy it will be but when enquirying about prices yesterday I was told that for the Sunday and Monday of half term week that the direct Eurostar had already been fully booked. This would suggest to me that it will probably be quite busy.

It may be better to visit earlier, if the school is alright with it. In my DDs school she is allowed upto 10 days off during school time but we have to complete a form. They see education as being more than just what the children learn in the classroom. Last year (Year 1) we took her out for four days and the teacher asked her to keep a diary (a small picture and one or two sentences) which she then showed to her class when she came back. The teacher also asked her to see if she could learn how to say Hello, Goodbye and Thank you in French. Not all schools are so flexible though, hopefully your DDs will be.

I hope that your DD's arm get better quickly , what an awful thing to happen during the summer holidays.

Ive booked to go in the October half term. Im expecting it to be busy as some schools in England have school holidays but not all, but the French dont have school holidays until the week after so im hoping it wont be too bad....
To be honest im going more for the Halloween atmosphere and there are EMH every morning so im going to make the most of them.
Ive also booked a character breakfast for the character interaction as I really cant be doing with the scrum to get a photo.....
If anyones got any experience of Halloween half term that would be great.....

We're going the week before half term as I wanted to try and avoid a bit of the crowds if at all possible!

My little one is going into Year 1 and they are fine with her taking the holiday. Not like she's going to miss anything while this young and she's excited that she can use some french words.

We're arriving late on the 21st and leaving on the 26th. I'm expecting it to be very busy but am going to use EMH, fastpass, and just enjoy the Halloween atmosphere ~ we'll also have a table-service meal each day which will give us time to relax and recover!

I think if you can avoid the school holidays and weekends then it will be better ~ unfortunately my eldest DD will be in Y11 so can't really miss any school this year.

Yay!! I didn't even think about it being Halloween when we booked. I've never been to Disney around Halloween so this is going to be a great new experience!

We'll be there from 7th also! We leave 10th and are staying at the Cheyenne. I can't wait to see all the 'pumpkin men' and pink witches, always wanted to go to WDW for Halloween, but can't take long hols in Oct.

Oh snap, we're there until the 10th too! Well I say that, we actually catch the train home at stupid o'clock in the morning on the 10th!

I've been to WDW and Disneyland many times over the years but have never managed to be there for any festivities like this or xmas so I'm really looking forward to it!

We're going on the 17th Oct for 3 days. By my calculation, we should just get in and out before half term starts!

It's my first time too at DLRP for Halloween I've heard that they dress the park up really well, better than WDW.

we went to DLRP for the first 3 days of the October half term (Monday to Wednesday) and we didn't find the park to busy. although it was busier than when we normally go at christmas. we did notice that the resort got busier later in the week which coincided with a price increase in the room rates!.

we had a park view room in the disney club and used the VIP fastpasses a lot more than when we last went at christmas.
as a bonus each night after the park closed we got to watch from our window the CM's pratice the christmas parade so we got the best of both worlds, pumkinmen and santa

Oh that sounds so much fun! I'd love to be able to see something like that going on from my room!

our room looked right down main street so we got to see the whole parade. we had the room between the sleeping beauty suite and the cinderalla suite, both of which were empty at the time if that is indication of how busy.
