Halloween Treats - Best & Worst & Weirdest

What's wrong with popcorn balls?

Homemade ones are wonderful if done well--but most parents won't let their kids eat homemade treats. My best friend's mom used to make the BEST popcorn balls. She handed them out only to the kids who were local and knew her (and would be allowed to eat them) and had store bought candy for others. Her popcorn balls were legendary and there were always kids who stopped by the next day to see if there were leftovers:goodvibes

The worst was raisins. Raisins-- UGH! I also hated the coupons, even if they were for free McDonalds fries, because as a kid you can't really control when you make a McDonalds run. I had to wait for my parents to decide to take me.

The generic orange and black chewy candy was pretty terrible too.

My mom never let me eat anything homemade (I grew up in the 70s/80s, the height of the poisoned/tampered with Halloween candy scare.)

My best as a kid were a top 4 places, funny thing I can still tell you who in the neighborhood it was.
1- The pizza place down the street would give away a large slice of cheese pizza on a napkin. Growing up I can from a non pizza oving family (I was the odd ball who could eat it daily) so it was a huge treat for me. I'd even eat some of the napkin getting the extra cheese that melted onto it. :rolleyes1 First though we'd hit...
2- A guy who worked for Coke. He'd give us all a bottle of coke in the glass bottles (now I feel old.)
3- A guy who worked for Better Made potato chips would give us all a bag of chips.
4 A family at the end of a dead end road who apparently didn't get many kids (till word spread) and gave away KING size candy bars!!!

Those were the 4 best, if I only got to go to those 4 places I would have been happy. :yay:

Worst, well, one of the favorite stores in mmy house is when I was 3 or 4 and someone gave me a box of Dots. Apparently my very well mannered but honest self said "oohhhh, Dots, just what I hate! TAHNK YOU!" I can only imagine how embarassing that would be now that I am the mom.

Weirdest, nothing stands out, though ther were raisins and stuff, but the weirdest we have here is a neighbor who invites the kids into his garage and acts out a religious play with a bunch of people from his church then the treat he gives the kids is an anti Halloween comic book. We made that mistake once. We skip the house now. I am not anti-religion but we have our own beliefs and our include enjoying Halloween and don't like it being portrayed as evil and feeling trapped in their garage is just creepy.
