Is there anything special going on in October for Halloween at the parks? If so, when does it start? I have heard about the Haunted Mansion being all decked out special. Could you please tell me when that happens date wise. Thanks.

Other than haunted mansion being turned int Nightmare before christmas DL no longer does anything for Halloween. In 95 and 96 they had a Mickey's Halloween Haunt, but they haven't done it since. Haunted mansion usually re-opens the begining of October (usually the first Friday in October) and will stay that way till the first Sunday after New Years.

Every year they have an even for the kids of the CMs, where the kids come dressed in costume. If you happened to be there the day that is happening, you'll see us all line up in the entrance plaza waiting to get it. It's so much fun to look around and see what all the other kids are wearing. They even have the kids do a little fashion show where they ask the kids questions and stuff. The first year my daughter was 3 and they asked her is she went to school. She said yes. Then they asked her what she did in school. her reply "Anything my teacher tells me too" It was just so cute.

I wonder why. No party, kids parade. Seems like it would be a money maker for sure. I'd buy tickets and dress up. I mean as long as the tickets were not to $$$$.

Don't know the reasons, but at the time they had it I think the tickets were about $20 (maybe less I don't remember anymore). I think part of it was that a lot of the theme parks around here have scary halloween nights and they didn't go that route. Probably there weren't enough parents willing to bring their kids (we went both years and usually it was a group of mostly 20 somethings with a few teenagers and 1 kid, so we had about 8 or 9 adults and 1 kid with us)

Also DL stays open till 8pm on off season now. In order to do it they'd have to scale there hours back to at least 6 and probably earlier. Since mostly who would go are kids, and school is in session parents don't want their kids out late, and they always had it during the week if I remember correctly.

Another big difference is that DLs guest are mostly locals with a lot of those being AP holders, wheras WDWs are more visitors from other areas, so what people do once they may not be willing to do again. I'm guessing the expense of having to have yet another shift of people for the parties was worth the amount of money they were bringing in.
