Today was a day filled with anticipation and excitement! Scott and I both had to work before we could officially be on our way to Walt Disney World. Scott and I got the kids in the car at 6.45am. The plan was for Scott to drop me off at work, take the kids to day care, go to work himself for ½ a day, go home and pack up the car, get the kids then get me and head to the airport. Whew! And were not even close to Orlando yet!
The plan worked without a hitch! My work day went surprisingly quickly. I thought it would drag and drag. But thankfully, each class went smoothly and before I knew it I was out the door, reunited with my family on our way to the airport.
We got to the airport at 3.30pm. We did curbside check-in then headed right up to the security line to get into the terminal. This took the better part of 30 minutes, but we still had plenty of time before our 5.10pm departure. Once inside the terminal, we went to grab a bite to eat. The kids had a banana and a muffin. DH and I had grilled chicken sandwiches. I wanted something with protein to hold me because I knew the next time wed see a hot meal would be at the Wilderness Lodge around 9pm (if all went well!).
After our bite to eat, we headed to the gate and got in the pre-board line. We flew Southwest. This flight was made up of 50% kids! It was like nothing I had ever seen before. Kids everywhere!!!
After a slight delay, they began boarding. We got our seats and got the carseat (for Erika) put in and got settled in for the short flight to Orlando. Since the pilot wanted to make up the time we had lost (about ½ an hour), he literally pulled away from the gate, got on the runway and took off. I mean, we didnt even slow down once out of the gate. This was the quickest, and most nerve-wracking take-off I had ever experienced. I am not too happy about flying to begin with and this kind of shook me up a bit. The flight was good, but NOISY. I was sitting next to a doctor going to a conference and we spoke a bit at the end of the flight. He was not impressed with Southwest and was pretty sure he wouldnt fly them again. (Speaking of Southwest, I just got a DING! LOL!). Nothing good
So once we got off the plane, we got the kids in the stroller and headed to the baggage area to get our Disney Magical Express bus. Thankfully this process went very smoothly. We were whisked onto a bus after a short wait in line for our vouchers to be stamped. We were the first dropped off. We had landed at 7.25pm and I was in line checking in at the WK at 8.25pm.
The first step inside of the Wilderness Lodge was breathtaking (as usual)! Scott and I looked at each other and knew we were home. (We stayed at the Polynesian in July 05 and although we love it there, too, there is just SOMETHING about the WL that just grabs us by the heart and hugs us).
Scott sat with the kids while I got our room. The CM was very nice and we chatted a bit. I asked about an upgrade, but he told me they were at 100% and had to relocate some guests to Saratoga Springs and Old Key West. We were placed on the villa side of the Lodge for the 3rd time. I asked if there was anything on the opposite side. The only thing was a 5th floor room that was smoking optional, so I declined it and stuck with what was assigned to us.
It was a great room! Room 3111, overlooking the inner courtyard and stream.
When we got to our room, mousekeeping had just dropped off the babys crib (pack n play) and left us a Towel Mickey!
A few minutes later a fridge was dropped off and set up for us.
We were all a bit hungry so we went down to Roaring Fork. We got a turkey sandwich, a hot dog and kids chicken nuggets. I barely tasted the hot dog as I was so hungry! But we were also very tired and were getting ready for a good nights Disney sleep.
When we returned to our room our luggage was there. Also there, was a birthday cake for Scott which I had pre-ordered.
We all sang Happy Birthday and ate some cake. Then there was another knock on the door. This time it was for Chase. I had ordered him a Stitch or Treat Halloween gift basket from the Disney Florist. The kid was beside himself when he saw it and learned it was for him!
We took a few minutes to look through it, then it was off to bed. Although we had only been in WDW for about 2 hours, we were feeling the magic and pixie dust already!!!
