I could swear that I saw a thread that was something about Halloween at the Fort - but now I can't find it ...

We are narrowing down our possible FW dates and in one scenario we could arrive on Halloween

Can you tell me what goes on on Halloween @ the fort? I thought I saw something about a golf cart parade - is there anywhere for kids to go trick or treating? Are there any fireworks that night since it is a party night at MK?

Thanks in advance for any help :goodvibes

Yes there is a golf cart parade. Yes there is trick or treating. Yes there are special fireworks for the treaters. Yes it is really crowded in the parks.

However, since Halloween is on a Sunday this year, there have been some questions on when they are going to do the above activities. This past 4th, some of the activities were done on the 3rd. I would call and see what they are planning.

I sent an e-mail to find out when the gc parade is & when trick-or-treating will be held. I'm waiting on their reply. (Side note....Also have a cm working on getting the picnic area next to the pool reserved for Lorna's birthday party for Sat night)

certain holidays like the fourth and new years are celebrated for two days. Halloween is generally only one. However, there's a ton of activities that go on for the whole month. And the Halloween parties start in early september. So you'll be able to see the party fireworks for about 3-4days in a row.

Magic Kingdom has been offering the special holiday fireworks, on new years and the fourth, for the day before for years now (if that made any sense). It helps with the overcrowdness inside the park. And Christmas is just in it's own ballgame.

According to wdwinfo.com, this is what was offered last year at Fort Wilderness for halloween:

Friday, October 30, 2009 Site/Cabin Decorating Contest, Halloween Golf Cart Parade starting at 6 pm at the Bike Barn. Saturday, October 31, 2009, Costume Pet Parade starting at 11 am at the Bike Barn, Spooky crafts starting at 12 pm, Mummy wrap up starting at 12:30 at the Meadow Swimmin' pool, Creepy Dodgeball starting at 2pm, Ghostly Bingo starting at 3:30 pm, Camp or Treat starting at 5 pm, Monster Mash pool party starting at 5:30 pm, Fires will be lit at Campfire Sing a long at 6:30 pm, Halloween campfire sing a long at 7 pm, Legend of Sleepy Hollow movie starts at 7:45 pm, Pirates of the Caribbean:Curse of the Black Pearl starts at 8:15 pm. Pumpkin Carving contest(one pumpkin per family) bring to Campfire on Oct. 31

Hmmm ... I didn't consider the Sunday factor. In my town they do change
4th of July parades, trick or treating, etc to Saturday when the holiday falls on Sunday. It just didn't occur to me that Disney might do that, too.

I wouldn't be in a park on Halloween - looking more for resort type entertainment.

So you think the trick or treating might be Saturday?

And do they pipe in the music for the Halloween fireworks? If so, that is really cool. I know that the MNSSHP is going until Monday the 1st ... So at least we should be able to catch the fireworks on the 31st. I am wondering how crowded that last party will be. We are only doing one park day but getting tickets for the party is tempting :)

Is the trick or treating camp site to camp site? Should we bring treats to give out (if we are there when it is going on, but I don't think we'll be there Saturday night so it may not work out for us at all).

I'm sure that there would be something to do around WDW on the 31st - would they change the DTD trick or treating to Saturday, too?

When do they usually put out the schedule for the current year?

Thanks, everyone, for all of your help:wizard:

Here are scans of the Halloween activity schedules for 2008 and 2009:

2009:

This shows a pretty clear pattern.

I would expect the activities to be the same on 10/30 and 10/31 for this year.

To the OP -- yes, trick or treating is campsite to campsite and it is a BLAST! Seriously my kids (who are 7 now) have loved this the past two years and it is now our Halloween tradition! They always get plenty of candy and I think we only made it to 3 or 4 loops last year. I haven't stayed behind to give candy out but we have left a bowl with candy at the end of our site in the past two years. Yes it does get a little crowded in the campground with trick or treaters, golf carts, etc. but the atmosphere just can't be beat! And we usually end our night on the beach watching Hallowishes with the piped in music :goodvibes my DH's birthday is on Halloween and he wouldn't celebrate any other way!

It is a great time looking for Pics we went though about 30 lbs of candy and the best loop are 100- 800 the back loops seem not to join in as much

Access for trick-or-treating may be more controlled this year with the new gate at the overflow lot, so crowds may be less intense. Reports last year were that a LOT of outsiders came in. Also note for the GC parade, you register at the Bike Barn but the parade forms and starts at the hitch-unhitch area.
