Halloween on your street

This is our first Halloween here in MD and our community does not do anything. Our neighborhood is mainly second homes, sprinkled liberally with retired folk, with some families thrown in for variety. We usually decorate our house like a haunted house but there are no street lights and no trick or treaters so we will probably just put out a pumpkin. :sad1:

We decorate every halloween. Started out small some headstones and lights. It has slowly has progressed into a huge undertaking. We now have fence for the graveyard about 80 ft worth. Mannequins, and the usual props. Halloween night is the night when the big props come out. Motorized tombstones and rocking chairs, air driven thrashing doors, fog machines, lightning machines.
I always get great reviews from kids but mostly parents who are just in awe of the work that goes into it. I always kid my electric bill is larger in Oct. than in Dec.. I just like Halloween better there is more originality with it.
Seriously you go to any store right now and you will find x-mas dec. on sale already.:headache:

We have a two-story plantation style home that begs to be turned into a haunted mansion each year. As of now we have orange strings lights, 6-foot spiders, webs galore, a ghost, a witch, two full-sized skeletons hanging from nooses (one is wearing a hawaiian lei), yard stakes with skulls, scary signs, a tombstone, pumpkins, gauze overlays on our columns, nightmare before Christmas door wreath, tiki masks on our shutters and last but not least... our inflatable Homer Simpson in a skeleton costume.

We're about halfway done with the decorations. Night of Halloween we do more and add strobe lights, fog, projected flying ghosts on the house, scary sounds/music, cauldrons, etc.

People ask to take pictures of our house every Halloween. We always say sure!

I decorate but geared more towards Harvest...hay/corn/moms/scare crows. I don't really like the ghoulish stuff at my house, but do enjoy seeing what others do!
We have no sidewalks here...less kids :sad2: I like ot see them all dressed up, especially the little ones.
What I dislike are kids that come to the door with NO costume and Kids that do not even say Trick or Treat...OH, and a thank you is nice to hear once in a while!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Ah, yes. The festive fall MOMS!! ;)

Hardly anyone on my street decorates, but the people up on the hill in front of us decorate really well.

It's a mixed bag here. We have neighbors who are awesome decorators (they are a couple of the non-traditional kind;)) and they always do something very interesting for holidays. This year, their porch looks all spooky but they used disco balls for the effect. One year, they really freaked out my kids by putting a large black spider on their front door, and in the spider legs was a baby (a doll). It was weird.

I don't decorate for Halloween, but I do decorate for Fall.

And trick or treat night here is insane. We live in an old neighborhood, with a lot of twins and row homes, but also with large single family mansions too. We get at least 400 kids EASILY on TorT night. We always buy those big bags of cheap candy, and give one per kid...and we are usually out of candy within the first hour.

there's a neighborhood in the town near us that goes all out for halloween-and they welcome those of us who live ruraly as well as the university students to come trick or treating and enjoy their decorations:love::love:

all the houses are decked out but there is one cul de sac that is AWSOME. the owners on one corner have a home that is kind of a modern version of a victorian, with a big porch that wraps around 3 sides. the 3 sides have lots of windows into the home, and they have decorations you would swear they lifted out of the haunted mansion. there's a pipe organ with huge drippy candles, ghosts flying in the room...-just phenominal.

the kicker is they work it out with their neighbor across the street, and each has a projector in their driveway that projects old horror films on the other's garage doors-SO COOL!!!!

we don't get much decorating out her save the lit jack o lanterns people will put at the end of their driveways.

We have only been living here for about 2 months so far From what I can see there isn't much people decorating but here again the houses are far and few between since we are living way out in the country section of town. Love it here!

I love decorations but few people decorate here. Those few go all out. They are brave though because things get stolen and pumpkins are routinely smashed. We have a handful of bored teens who enjoy messing some things up. :(

Our neighbors across the street really decorate but they only put it out the night of trick-or-treating.

On my street i am that neighbor whose home is really decorated. I decorate inside as well but our porch adn front yard is where I really put some efforet. I cannot hold a candle to my sister though. Every room on her lower level os decorated complete with cobweb curtains and themed rooms. Her garage is turned into a ghoul jail and her yard is crazy! She has no trick or treaters though, so she hosts a huge Halloween Party the Friday before.

I love my neighbors. We set up a table on the corner and decorate it. All the neighborhood kids know to go to the table for treats instead of our houses. It is 1 stop shopping and the moms get to sit around and drink and eat snacks together. We have as much fun as the kids! :yay:
