Our 7 night out of NY will include halloween day, which happens to be our Castaway Cay day. Will the ship and/or Castaway Cay look any different or will there be any special activities? Should we plan to bring costumes for our boys (11 and 5)? Any other recommendations?

You are in for a treat! pun intended! We did the Boo to you Halloween cruise in 2015. The ship is decorated and everyone gets dressed up (adults included) for a night of trick or treating on the ship. Trick or treating is held on deck 3. If your needing some help with what to dress up as, check out pinterest. Lots of really cool ideas there for adults. I was Bo and my DH was Sully from Monsters Inc. The Halloween tree is sooo cool. Lots of special activities too. Bring costumes for the boys and for you too! And of course, Castaway Cay will be decked out for Halloween!

We are on the Halloween on the High Seas on the Fantasy Oct 14th. My question is, does the Halloween party night replace either pirate night or formal night? Or will we have all 3?

We had all three.

I believe the OP's cruise is also a Marvel Day at Sea cruise too, so in that case do you still get all those events (formal night, pirate night, Halloween night, and Marvel day)? If so, that's an action packed cruise.

Correct, it is a Marvel Day at Sea Cruise, but it doesn't say anything about Halloween on the High Seas?

Just double checked the DCL site, if you're on the Oct 28 sailing out of NYC on the Magic, it does list it as a Halloween on the High Seas cruise.

Yep, that's our cruise. Must have missed seeing that, thanks for confirming.

So, does that mean we will have a formal, pirate, Marvel and Halloween night all on the same sailing? This would seem doable as we have 4 sea days.
