Halloween (Michael Myers) Movies

Just an FYI, all horror movies have a sex scene. The tv versions of the Halloween movies usually block the fully exposed parts (I don’t know if the new DVDs or streaming services do too or if full nakedness is shown). So if those scenes are not appropriate for some in your family, there are more family friendly editions that edit those scenes. MM usually goes after those characters during the act or shortly after.

The timelines may be confusing so this may be helpful. I'm not even a big Halloween/horror fan, but I find it fascinating. They've had a multiverse since before Marvel!

I wouldn't consider the first Halloween cheesy, myself, it has a much more professional quality than many other slasher films. Definitely strong on atmosphere, and not too reliant on gore.

As for Rob Zombie's Halloween, your reasons for liking it are exactly my reasons for not liking it: Explaining Michael Myers. And through the explanation, Myers is now reduced to just another human serial killer.

In Carpenter's version, Myers is Evil in human form, almost supernatural, invulnerable. I love that he's sometimes called "The Shape", because it completely dehumanizes him. A boogeyman that's wearing a hollow, lifeless face, that just happens to resemble a human. Can't be reasoned with, and will never stop coming.

Yep, that's pretty well-established trivia. There's even a replica of that same Shatner mask from Trick or Treat Studios (they sell all the various Myers masks) , which is arguably more popular for Halloween fans than Trekkies.

So my opinion is based on how I was raised. That being said, I wouldn't do it. It's been a few years since I watched the first one.

I think you should probably at least skim the movie & decide for yourself what your son can handle.

I would always watch the movie before I let my son see it. I was just trying to gauge if it was worth my time to watch it now or wait--didn't know how much I missed watching it on network tv in the middle of an afternoon.

My DH watched Stranger Things and said it was fine for the kid to watch. I spent the drive to school after the second episode talking about underage drinking, swimming & underage drinking and consent. I was not amused.

Yes, apparently Carpenter offered some costuming company a percentage of the movies profits to make a mask but they declined thinking the movie wouldn't become a hit so they bought a Captain Kirk mask to use instead. Oops.

I LOVE Halloween! Three is horrible LOL. Actually, anything after two is horrible, but hilarious. But Michael is always fun. UNLESS he is in the hands of Rob Zombie! Ick. I detested his version and didn't watch his sequel.

What’s scary is that MM is probably close to 80 years old according to cannon and he still had the energy of a 20 year old.

Yes, that one I liked. The one after wasn't so great, but the 2018 movie I thought was quite good.

That's the new reboot that only follows from teh first movie. It is part of a trilogy with the third one hitting theaters just this week actually - Halloween Ends.

No, it was planned to be a trilogy. The same director worked on all three along with Jamie Lee. They have been generally well-regarded.

Well according to movie number 6 he’s a demon (at least that’s what his victims say as he chases them). Bigger question, how did a 12 year old (when he started to kill) join a cult in the middle of Illinois?

Edit: not a spoiler @disneychrista, you’ll hear him called a lot of things in the series. The plot holes will make you laugh. The new movies are trying to correct those mistakes.

Yes. Halloween 6 is the last of the original timeline before the crazy AU universe. Then the new trilogy completes that story. They have plans for a separate spin-off in the future but no one knows what it will be about if it’s made.

Yeah, except for that 3 is the BEST one. It's soooo cheesey! It's actually the only one I even remotely like because I am not a horror guy anyway.

Seriously, if you’re trapped in a movie and hear this music run to the next state. He only seems to kill in Illinois. Jason seems to go everywhere. I wish we got MM vs JV instead of Freddy Krueger. At least they both would be similar in age.
