Hi,
My DW and I will be spending a few nights in Manhattan over Halloween without the kids. Hooray!

Any NYC Disers out there who could recommend somewhere to go on Halloween night?

We were thinking of dressing up and going to the parade in Greenwich Village but where to go after that, maybe for a meal, a drink and a dance? :woohoo:

TIA

Not that I have a problem with it with my kids, but the Halloweeen Parade is pretty much another Gay Pride parade, with more costumes. I believe it is held by the gay community (and is probaby a blast).

Are you sure you know what you are in for? The Greenwich Village parade attracts about 250,000 people. The streets are absolutely mobbed and, unless you are there hours and hours before it starts, you can't really see anything. If you are marching, just be ready! Those marchers go all 'out' (no pun intended) to create the most outrageous costumes I've ever seen. And although some are a hit because they are just really clever, most are completely for shock value - the raunchier and borderline obscene they are the better. Photos they show on TV of the parade are tame compared to what goes on in person. There was quite a bit of public nudity and 'less than normally appropriate' public displays of affection on the streets surrounding the parade as and after it went by. I mean like naked men waving more than their hands from their fire escape balconies! If this doesn't offend or bother you, it's a riot! And we actually had a good time. But you really have to be adventurous and not intimidated by a very large, very uninhibited crowd! :rolleyes1

As for eating, there are a million places in the Village. From fancy exclusive to pizza joints and everything in between. Every possible culture is represented. But they will be seriously crowded that night.

Last place I want to be on Halloween is NYC. (we live in a NYC suburb)
I mean it's strange enough on a regular day. :rotfl:
Then again, I'm not a huge Halloween fan, and that day just brings out more freaks than usual.

HEY! I resemble that remark!!!! :cool1:

NYC on Halloween can be really fun.

Most bars / clubs have a Halloween party, but there may be a cover and /or long line to get in that night.

Be prepared for a lot of public drunkedness, crazy costumes, etc all around the city.

The Parade is crazy. I went once, right after college about 10 years ago and have not been back since. I don't love large, crowded scenes - so not really my favorite thing. It's definitely an experience though!!

Ricky's has costumes if you need a last minute outfit or accessory.

What else...cabs will be in short supply as the night goes on so plan to walk or take public transportation late night.

LOL - you read the OP's post more closely than I did, and I thought they were coming WITH the kids! LOL! I'm pretty liberal, but I, at first, thought you were crazy, until I re-read it, and saw they were leaving the kids behind.
