For those of you camping at the Fort over Halloween, you might want to know that NASA has just delayed the September launch of Discovery to November 1st. This is Discovery's last mission, and the second-to-last mission of the shuttle program. So, besides next February's launch of Endeavour, this is pretty much your last chance to see a shuttle launch before they are put out to pasture.

Now, don't worry about partying late on Halloween night and having to get up early for this....the launch is scheduled for 4:33pm!

Wish I could be there to see this. It's quite a sight. I know you can see the launch from the Fort, but if you can drive over to the coast to see it it's worthwhile IMO. For you locals, it's probably not a big deal, but for anyone traveling from out of state to be at the Fort this could be a good side trip.

I'm a local and for me, it's still a big deal. If anyone plans on driving over to the Cape for the launch, be prepared for traffic. What is normally a 45-60 minute drive from the Fort, can turn into 5-6 hours due to the traffic.

I would highly recommend trying to snag a ressie at Jetty Park, Cape Canaveral, and spending the day/night on launch day there. Not only will you get a clear, close view of the launch, you will avoid traffic, get to watch cruise ships come and go, and be able to enjoy a great beach on the Atlantic! :thumbsup2

Well,,that is until Obama leaves office in 2012 and the new guy steps in. :thumbsup2

Hey,,if it's a super clear night, spose we can see from our house ?

Actually, we hope to see it from the Fort. :dancer:

Was expecting this to have a new date as I planned a two week trip to include the original September launch date. Oh well, still going to be at the Fort for two weeks!:thumbsup2

I too have been following the NASA schedule and was thrilled to see them reschedule it. We aren't due down until the 3rd but I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few more changes so we won't make a decision on whether to change our dates or not. We have tried 3 times to catch one go up and so far all have been rescheduled so we missed them all. Finally getting to see it go up would certainly be the cherry on top in making our vacation at the Fort perfect.
