We'll be at Boulder Ridge for one night ... on Halloween! ... and are thinking of heading over to the campgrounds to check out the Halloween displays. I see posts about folks doing this in the past, but don't see *anything* about this year - I assume it's still going on? Would the best way to do this be to take a boat from the MK? Once we get over there, what are the logistics, where do we start? Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

First I'd suggest you check out our camping forum...

You'll need to use park transportation to get there unless you have a reservation at Trail''s End. You can take a bus from any of the parks or the boat from MK.
The best way to see the decorations is with a golf cart. Unfortunately they aren't renting them to folks who aren't a guest at the fort. One way to cut down the walking would be to take an internal bus to each loop, then walk the loop itself. Rinse and repeat. Best of luck!

Thanks for the information Don. So, we can't just get off the ferry from the MK to Ft Wilderness and start walking to see the decorations?

You can do that if you like of course. I only suggest the internal buses because the Fort is huge and that would be an awful lot of walking just to get to the loops where all the decorations are. Remember, the decorations are done by the campers at their individual sites, not Disney. There's not much to see until you actually get in the loops themselves.

Again, thanks for the quick response! I think maybe we will save this for another year when I plan further ahead and get a cabin & a golf cart! LOL This portion of our stay is a bit of a last minute add on, so no cabins or carts are available. Thanks and have a nice weekend.

Loops 100-400 and even 700 are very close to the marina, you can start walking those loops first if you come from MK by boat. There is a Halloween regular who always gets the corner site by the walkway to the trading post with tons of decorations.

They may or may not be checking to see if you are a guest before boarding the boat at MK. This year there were a lot of 'displaced' campers due to inventory overbooking (myself included), so many of us will be heading to the Fort for Halloween while officially staying elsewhere and crossing our fingers no issues. Any other day I don't think they would check.

I just visited earlier this month: grabbed the bus from DS - just walked to the first few loops from the front outpost and enjoyed it immensely. Some wonderful displays! While I wished I could have rented a golf cart, so I could see a lot more, I had a nice time just the same and will likely visit again next year - we do this every year as a halloween tradition along with HHN and other orlando-area fun.

Sincere appreciation to every camper who decorates - you bring a lot of joy to others :lovestruc

(I had checked with WDW before visiting and they said anyone was welcome to take the DS bus over and enjoy the decorations.)

Alot of the campers on the left side as you're walking towards the restaurants from the lake have them. I would just go toward the bus stop area and look around there. It's pretty amazing what they do.
