From reading the passporter, the biggest difference I got was the transportation method. The Beach & Snorkel tour uses the ferry out of Red Hook. The 5-Star adventure uses a 115 foot "1939 Chesapeake Bay Oyster Buy Boat replica" the M/V Leylon Sneed (kinda looks like a double decker tug boat to me!)

MVLeylonSneed.jpg

You would think that getting on a boat and heading straight out would get you more time at the beach vs. driving to Red Hook and ferrying over. But, apparently, the Sneed isn't very fast (I read 1.5 hrs each way). Also, the passporter notes that if the seas are rough, you may be detoured to St. James island. On the positive side, you apparently get to view some fantastic scenery along the way.

Here's a couple of threads I found on this site:
WDW/Magic/Cocoa St Thomas day
Trunk Bay Excursion

My impression is if you want to maximize your time at trunk bay, you should do it yourself. I like crash's suggestions too!

Thank you for all the good advice and directing me to those threads. 1.5 hours each way is too long for the kids. Even a bit long for me. I tend to get impatient on some excursions we've been on. I like to get there and get back quickly. I think we've decided to do the dolphin excursion in St Maarten and do our own thing ( spend less money) in St Thomas. Somewhere in the future I'd like to go to St Thomas for a longer time than a day. Some of these ports have so much to do and not enough time to do them all! What are your plans?

HAPPY FATHER"S DAY TO ALL FATHER"S!!!!!!!

Jen, Have fun at the beach....

HAPPY FATHER"S DAY!!!Kristin- What website? and yes I have been in the pool all week. This is the first chance I have had to catch up on all the "Dis" news. My Cousin came home with me from the beach and when she left my Best Friend and her boy's came for a few day's. We stayed in the pool from 9:00 a.m. until about 5:00 everyday. Everyone left today and I am sooooo tired. I guess I will catch up on housework tommorow.

CaptainCrash- we stayed at Pop Century last October and really like it, the value Resorts are smaller than the other Resorts but the theming is really cute. We are staying at Pop Century again this September. We have not stayed at Disney Resort that we haven't liked.

Princess olivia- I forgot to add that we stayed at the Animal Kingdon Lodge also. It was very cool. We had a room that overlooked the animals and it was so neat to stand on the balcony and see Giraffe's eating as well as other animal's. The Polynesian is also very nice we LOVED listening to the luau music playing every night. It is a very romantic place.

WE don't know yet what we will be doing in St. Martin or St. Thomas. We did Coral World last time and Rick did the helmut dive which he loved!!! WE also did the skytram which was pretty cool. I would love to do an Island Tour and spend some time at MAGENS Bay. We have also been to St. Martin twice, we went to Great Bay Beach right across from the Ship, and last time we shopped and hit the Casino's. I would like to go to Orient Beach or Sapphire Beach this time, maybe do a tour of both sides of the Island too.

Hi Teri! If you are planning on visiting Sapphire Beach, you might want to read this thread at Cruise Critic:

Ok, Awol you mentioned a few posts ago about the Dis meet..and where you thought we could have it..Can you remind me again what you said and then we can post information about this...I remember you were the one that mentioned it but did not remember the details...

Crash suggested the promenade lounge. I think 3:00 PM is pretty much the gold standard for dis meets. But, we don't have to do it there or then. There are other places that work well, too. We did ours in the lobby of the Walt Disney Theatre.

But, I suggested that we go with Crash's suggestion and set it at 3:00 PM in the promenade lounge and if anybody objects, we can discuss it.

It's official! :disrocks: As predicted here on the boards... Well, wrong ship but the right idea.

From http://www.wdwnews.com/ViewPressRelease.aspx?PressReleaseID=104122
Pirate Ghost Ship to Land at Disney's Castaway Cay

CELEBRATION, Fla. -- A mysterious pirate ship is landing at Disney's private island, Castaway Cay, in time to provide July's Disney Cruise Line guests with a swashbuckling photo opportunity and a sneak peek into movie-making magic. The ship is The Flying Dutchman, a 175-foot ghost ship which makes its silver-screen debut on July 7 in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

The Flying Dutchman's commander is the legendary Davy Jones, who serves as nemesis to the infamous pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, in the upcoming film.

The intricate film prop is unlike any other pirate ship -- with ragged sails and a barnacle-encrusted bow, the ship looks like it was raised off the ocean floor to haunt the open seas for eternity. The Flying Dutchman will provide a scenic photo backdrop, and guests renting boats on the island will be able to get an up-close look at the ghost ship.

Disney Cruise Line will also hold a PremEAR at Sea of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" in the Walt Disney Theatre of both Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. On Friday, July 7, guests aboard Disney Cruise Line will receive commemorative buttons and pirate-themed temporary tattoos, and will be invited to view the premiere of the film at 12:01 a.m.

To learn more about Disney Cruise Line or to book a vacation, guests can contact their travel agent, visit disneycruise.com or call Disney Cruise Line at 888/DCL-2500. Travel agents can call Disney Cruise Line at 888/325-2500 or visit disneytravelagents.com.

Cool....

... 'cept they make you rent a boat to get a closer look. Guess I'll be partin' with $20 OR $40 to see the movie prop.

Today's photo shoot of my friends' Fathers' 80th birthday party and Fathers' day was rather nice. I've never done anything like this before - and as such it was rather insightful. Seeing as I'm co-coordinating an 80th BD party for my father in law come August... this was great for ideas as well as having been a chance to exercise my creative energy. Aside from that - fathers' day was pretty laid back here. Another 2 shirts and a very precious hand made Fathers' Day card from my daughters.

OK - so I have 1000+ imiages to review, refine and sort from the weekend. Plus I'm traveling for monday nite. So - I'll post the custom made Disney t-shirt and sweat shirt pix soon and some conceptual designs for custom making our own shirts for the cruise too. GImme til say Friday to get to it. Or better yet - the weekend.

Hope everyones' Fathers' Day was more relaxing then my crazy weekend.

Cheers!

The upper right hand image was taken hand held from 40-50' away without flash! It is tack sharp! Of course, I have 3 other soft and blurry images just like this one too! I shot 437 images in 3.5 hours today! That's almost 2 every minute the whole time I was there. I kno... I'm a nut with the camera. :goodvibes

Wow, you guys had an interesting weekend. :stir: We were in Ft Lauderdale visiting Fran's Mom.

Resorts stayed at: Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kindom Lodge, All start movie, music and sports, Pop Century, Beach Club, Dixie Landings, Coronodo Springs, our favorite is Wilderness Lodge.

Most times on a ride.....we rode Expidition everest 8 times straight the last time we were there.

Favorite Restaurant: Too hard to pick....our best experience has been at Victoria and Alberts but that was a one time deal.

DIS meet.....I agree that 3pm seems to be the best time. Any place will work. Even though it is October, if it is sunny then it will be hot outside.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Dave

AWOL- I am so excited about the pirate ship!! Do you think it's there for good? I would love to be on that upcoming sailing. How fun!

Crash- Those are great pictures. It looks like a fun time.

It seems like we can't go to Disney without a visit to Portobello Yacht Club in Downtown Disney. We went there the first time we went to Disney together in 1994. We just make it a tradition. We also LOVE to eat in Canada. I can't resist Ghirardelli hot fudge sundaes either!!!

I don't know! But, I would guess they might need it for another POTC movie at some point (The POTC prequel?). That July 1 sailing is going to be pretty cool. They get all of the extra POTC premiere stuff and a possible shuttle launch in addition to just being on a DCL Cruise! Jerks! :rotfl2:

Crash, I may have to join you and try my hand at sailing out to get a better view of that bad boy! We did have some talk of a mutiny on our last voyage. Maybe it's time to re-open that nasty book of tricks!

Awol,
That sounds great for the DIS meet...Any one else agree....

Sounds neat about the pirate boat..

Another warm day here...out in the pool all day ..while poor old Dh is slaving away at work...he he...!!!!!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Hey everyone, I just can't believe the school year is coming to an end already. My son will be finishing up with first grade and the triplets will finish their first year of preschool tomorrow. I just can't believe my oldest will soon be a second grader. Where does the time go??

Sorry, I haven't been very active but have been so busy with teacher gifts etc. I just have so many teachers to cover!!! Anyways, sounds like everyone is having fun. All the talk about swimming makes me want to get a pool for the kids. Definitely a must have around here. I will have to look into it for next year.

I think someone asked where I am staying on the ship? Sorry, I just can't remember who right now, but my dh said that we will be on deck 8. Anyone else here? The kids are so excited although I don't think the triplets really get it, but it should be so exciting for them. Us too!!!! :cheer2: I am at a loss though for costumes for dh and myself. The kids are all set, but I have no idea and dh really doesn't want to wear one. I need some ideas, help!!

Alright, I can't think of anything else. Except, can anyone help me with posting pictures. I would like to post some pics of my family and have no idea how to start. Thanks and have a super day all!!

Evelyn :thumbsup2
