spent a few, 30, years of my life fighting for this country and our freedoms. I didn't think I was going to upset anyone. As far as I know smoking ciagaretes are legal.

Thanks for your service and hope you enjoy your first DC.

You do have the right to smoke and do what you want to your own body, but as non-smokers we have the right not to have to put ourselves in danger by having to breath your smoke. I did notice people smoking on the cruise, but did not find it annoying or over powering.

Here is Disney's official answer regarding smoking.

Smoking is permitted only in designated areas of the ship. Guests are allowed to smoke on open decks (except near Mickey's Pool) and on the verandah of their stateroom. Inside, smoking is permitted within Sessions in the Beat Street entertainment district on the Disney Magic®, within The Cadillac Lounge in the Route 66 entertainment district on the Disney Wonder®, and at the bar area in Diversions on both ships.

OK everyone. Can we please keep the smoking debate somewhere else??? Let's keep things here fun!

Personally, I think we need to thank Frank & Lola for innocently bringing up a point that could be a life or death situation for Kristin. Isn't it better that she she has a chance to make an informed decision before she leaves instead of a critical one once she's on board?

As far as my smoking experiences on the ship go, I do not recall it ever being a "problem", but I do know that it was there. I only had super smoky clothes after being in the bar one night. It was my decision to go in there though. There are smokers on board & even though there are designated areas, that doesn't mean that some won't try in the wrong areas. Kristin - since this is such a huge issue for you, I would really make it a priority to sit down with your surgeon & figure out the best solution. Good luck & Happy Birthday.

According to the "October Cruisers" thread on the main page, the 10-21 cruisers started receiving their docs last Wednesday. I was really hoping they would come yesterday, but no such luck. I'm SOOOOOO anxious!! Is anyone else jumping out of their skin waiting for them to arrive?

Well... on encountering smoking on your veranda...

... As I stated elsewhere, we've only had a veranda a few times (about 35% of the time) and only once did my spouse have a problem and end up being a bit annoyed on a few days of the cruise ... and at that only annoyed a short period of those days. She is quite sensitive to smoke and is put off by bad smells pretty easily.

And so, the odds of encountering an undesirable odor - smoking in particular - are fairly small. Not zero and certainly not 50/50. AND, on a Disney ship I think it is somewhat less likely then on most other non-family-oriented lines. Especially compared to the European-merketed lines like Costa and Fiesta. Those lines probably allow smoking everywhere on the ship and attract folks who chain smoke. While most of the US targeted lines have long realized that anti-smkoing trends across the USA are here to stay and consequently there are fewer chain smoking patrons to whom they must cater. So you are not really at great risk. The potential exists though... and you could still draw the single most unlucky cabin neighbor within 2 doors who also chooses to light up ONLY when you step outside!

What I think is possibly more likely - is encountereing cigar smokers. And it used to be RARE 20 years ago to encounter cigar smokers. THAT is how much smoking has changed.

Forgive me in advance for the dark portrayal of the following animation... It seems like to some it would be barely tolerable and to others it might be intolerable.... whole to others it might be looked on as a fitting and humorous thing. No docs here yet today. Just a box in the mail from the insurance company returning the films we sent them as backup to the med files for Cody's insurance appeal. Guess they thought a 2 inch thick stack of medical records & 15-20 CDs was overkill......
