Halloween Cruise 2004 Trip Report
Part 4: Day 4, Tuesday, November 2
Just a reminder again - heres the cast: theres me DM Shirley (58), DD Debbie (30), DSIL Paul (39), DGS Hunter (6), DD Beth (36) and DSIL Daryl (30). We were booked in SPH 5520 and inside cabin 5513 which was just down the hall. Me, Debbie, Paul and Hunter were in 5520 and my other daughter Beth and husband Daryl were in 5513.
Today was the day that we arrived at our first port St. Maarten (trying to get the correct spelling here). So we ordered room service for breakfast and had it delivered around 7:00. Once we were finished, we went to Rockin Bar D no later than 8:00 to assemble for the Butterfly Farm and Island Tour. We gave them our tickets and got a sticker to wear for identification. Then we left the ship and boarded a bus for the tour.
This was a nice, air-conditioned bus with an interesting, chatty driver who pointed out lots of interesting sights. My family really enjoyed the Butterfly Farm. I had never been to one and found the information fascinating. The tour guide was Candie from Canada and she explained that different butterflies liked only certain plants, most (I think 70% were female) and that they only live for about 2 weeks. Got some beautiful pictures of butterflies plus a few pictures of my grandson with a butterfly on his finger.
We then returned to ship Beth and Daryl visited the stores (Daryl was still quarantined and wanted to stay off the ship as long as possible) and the rest of us boarded the ship for lunch. We ate at Lumieres (didnt want to spend more money on food in town) and then hung out on the ship the rest of the afternoon.
Dinner was at Lumieres and the theme was Pirates in the Caribbean or Tropical night. We just dressed in a tropical style but plenty of passengers dressed as pirates too. There were red bandanas for everyone to wear and the menus were rolled up and tied to look like treasure maps. Lots of fun for all and there was even a konga (sp?) line of waiters and passengers. I heard that at the Pirate in the Caribbean Party that evening there was a guy who looked just like Johnny Depp from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. This guy won the prize.
Anyway, we didnt stay up very late because tomorrow morning was the 6:45am assembly time in the Walt Disney Theater for St. Thomas immigration. Stay tuned tomorrow for the next episode.
