Halloween Costumes - Price Estimations and Discussion!

that what happened with some of the costumes last year, one day then gone, sometimes lol

I agree that the costumes should be on sale for no less than a single weekend. Preferably for at least a whole week, which is what I think they are going to do. Yavn's Newsletter lists dates 10/2-10/8 for the first set of costumes and then 10/9-10/15 for the next set and so on. Each set has what appears might be a start and a stop date.

I think this would be perfect. It gives enough people a reasonable chance to buy all the costumes. Will this make immediate rare items? No, not really, and they shouldn't! But don't worry... if the costumes end after a week they will start to be more valuable by November and certainly by January. By next Summer they will be nice and rare. Will they buy you Beta ? Not likely... unless they re-release Beta items they will always be the most rare items and will only continue to become so.

What I think they will do (this is purely speculation) is to stagger and vary the release times so some costumes will end up more rare than others. It seems like that was what was done last year. I agree with what Pixiewytch said, that it would be nice for us newer players to finally be able to get something "rare" to be able to trade for other rare things we want. I mean, put yourself in our shoes. Otherwise, we have little hope of getting these coveted items - so it's not just being selfish and liking to have what others do not (not that anyone said it was). Also, for whatever reason, Yavn and the rest of the vmk staff are somewhat in love with the idea of keeping a lot of things "rare." If you think about it, a large part of this game is based on envy. :)

Disagreed. What pixiewytch said was to release a costume a day and I completely disagree. Like I said before, I will not be able to get on everyday and would be very dissapointed if I can't get every costume and that's what I planned. I told myself that I would get every costume and that is what i will do.

I agree with Goofy_Bob ;) that I believe each set of costumes that will be out weekly will be out on sale for that week only and will be gone for the next set of costumes! I also agree that a week is long enough to get them.

I totally agree with you PrincessOp :) that it would be nice for us new people to be able to get the rare stuff so that YES we can have some rare things to trade with! Plus we just like being able to have some of the rare costumes to make us feel good! I mean isn't that part of the game to be able to trade and have fun? Making a good trade makes you feel good too. Yet it looks like there are a few costumes they aren't re-leasing so all the people who want their really rare costumes to stay rare will have them. And I am ok with that since I will be able to get some of the other costumes! :woohoo:

Well, sure... "You'll be the envy of the Kingdom" is the magical phrase we see everytime we enter a code.

The irony is that we can't say envy in the game. :scratchin

:rotfl:

But think about it ... VMK is a merchandising machine. It's designed to be a great big advirtisement for Disney. And in order to sell something you have to create a need. Envy is a fantastic way. They get you wanting something virtual, it's only a small step to get you to buy something real. :rolleyes1

:teeth: :teacher:

Okay then, it sounds to me like releasing them for a week is a happy medium for everyone. I gotta be honest though, some of the responses seem a little greedy to me. I mean, I'm sure everyone would like to have every costume released but I just don't feel sorry for someone because they didn't get each and every costume. I feel sorry for someone who maybe didn't get their favorite or at least a few they really wanted. I think that's the great thing about releasing and retiring them quickly. Let's say you missed out on a certain day's costume. Well, chances are you got another costume that someone else missed out on. Then you trade. I mean, my four year old who has the constant gimmes and no concept of not getting everything will not be getting every costume or anything close to it. How fun is it if you get everything you want all the time? There isn't any challenge in that.

I agree pixiewytch, if you have everything "rare" and all the credits in the world then VMK gets boring and soon you'll play less and less until you finally leave VMK. It will just seem unappealing.

Everyone will still get their favorite if the whole set is released for the whole week. I can't miss out on a single costume because I am collecting costumes. All of them are my favorite. The whole set for the whole week is a much better idea and I'm sure that's what they will do.

It is not greed to want to collect 1 of everything. It is greed if you want to collect more than 1 of everything just to keep it forever and not do anything with those items. Greed is the "more for me and none for you" mentality.
I also want to be able to get several of everything. Partly to have 1 extra and partly to trade for other things later. Also to give as gifts to those that were unable to get those items.

And trust me. There are many players who still would not be able to get everything even if everything was released for sale. There are many of those that just don't have the credits.

And yes, some of the responses are a bit greedy. But, it's those that don't want items re-released so they themselves will have the rare items and no one else. Either to lord it over others or to trade away for other ultra rare items to lord those over others.

I see nothing greedy about people wanting others to be able to have what they want.

Hey, I'm one of the newer players myself so I'm all for re releasing items. I don't have any of the costumes myself. I simply don't have this mentality that I have to have one of everything that comes out. I try to be grateful for what I get since right now I have almost nothing costume wise.

I'm not saying anyone should "lord" anything over anyone else. Re releases are great, but if there isn't some kind of limitation on the time frame they are on the shelves, everybody will have the same costume you do and it probably won't seem so special anymore. As much as some may not like to admit it, most things on vmk are all about exclusivity, sort of like that envy thing others had mentioned. Otherwise there is little incentive for people to play.

Like I already said though, one week seems like a decent amount of time to give everyone the time they need to purchase a costume and yet give it some rarity in the future so that newer players have some tradeability for older items.

I hope you're not still saying that they should be released one day at a time. Because they shouldn't.

I'm not saying they "should" do anything. It isn't my decision, just my opinion. I do think it would help with rarity if some or all costumes were released for one day but honestly, I'm just glad all of these wonderful costumes are being re released at all. I wouldn't get so bent out of shape about it if I were you. :thumbsup2

Congratulations. You have just contradicted yourself. I cared for your opinion but now I have lost all respect for you. You say you were unhappy whith people's "Greedy Responses" when you, yourself, made a greedy response by saying the costumes should be released for one day only.

Sounds a lot like you're the one that''s greedy

Well said silent. Well said.

Lol, I never said they should do anything. I simply said that would be my preference. No need to worry, I'm sure the vmk staff members don't know who I am or give a hoot what I think about it.

My understanding is that the definition of greed is to want to acquire everything you possibly can at anyone's expense. I have no desire to do that. I only want a few things released to become rare enough that I can trade them for some previously retired rare items, not all of them, not to complete anything, just a few things that strike my fancy. Now how the heck does that compare greed wise to someone complaining that they must have each and every costume/item released?

I think that is VERY harsh silent and VERY disrespectful, and I have "lost all respect for you".

I think you all need to just take a chill pill and stop ganging up on pixie.

I totally agree with pixie, greed isn't JUST wanting to keep the stuff for yourself it's wanting everything. We all have greed in us, even if its just a little bit. When the costumes will come out is undetermined. Everyone can guess what they want to guess, and when they do come out they can gain the self confidence that they were right to "show it in someones face". That is exactly what seems to be going on here.
Now lets all take a breath not say anymore about this rude disrespect for someone who admitted they were new and is for the releasing of costumes again. With that being said there should be no problems, we all want the costumes to be out, end of story. I believe apologies are needed now.

P.s. I am for the releasing 1 costume a day and having the costumes stay until the next week of costumes is to come out. :cheer2: .

Chillax mah peeps.

Dood. I cannot believe I just said that.

I want one of everything in VMK. But that's because I'm a collector. I don't trade for extras of stuff; I trade strictly for items I don't have, all in an attempt to complete my collection. Like in real life, I enjoy collecting things and trying to complete sets of things; for years I've been trying to collect one of every type of Beanie Baby bear that's sold. I collect baseball cards, logo baseballs, pressed pennies, etc. But they're so numerous, it's hard to have a complete collection; in VMK it's more feasible (I like to think) because there are fewer items. So I guess I'm having a hard time understanding how being a collector is the same thing as being greedy. Unless I'm misunderstanding something, which is entirely possible. :confused3

As for the prices of things, I'm guessing it'll be around Tron level. Although since the cowboy shirts are released by themselves apparently, I'm guessing they might be 1,000 each instead of the standard 500. popcorn::
