I'm still really torn about decorating. I have been doing a pretty involved outdoor display for years. When we moved to this house in 2017, I shifted themes to "Halloween at Sea." I had a trio of large inflatables...Happy Halloween Sea Serpent chasing a Viking ship manned by Viking skeletons (the story was that the serpent was in love with the serpent shaped Viking ship), and at the end was a large purple Halloween Octopus that's throwing a Jack-O-Lantern in one of his tentacles...basically as a romance spoiler. I had a blend of purple, red, and orange lights swirled around them at the bases to mimic water (aka The Dead River). I'd set my big projector to red to make it look like it was raining blood on the house. I had illuminated squid kites hanging in the trees. I also had a ghost projector, several large fabric ghosts on the driveway gate and porch, webbing throughout the shrubs adorned with a bunch of hanging mini jack-o-lanterns, and a series of ghost and C9 orange stake lights. In our old house, I did a big pet cemetery with all kinds of effects in our windows and bushes. Most of it was on its last leg before we moved, so I just trashed it all.
So, with the Halloween at sea display...the Viking ship and sea serpent died last year. The ghost projector is also gone. The main projector is dying. I think all of the red projector bulbs still work, but the yard stake is gone and I haven't tested to see if the red is still working. The squid fell apart a couple of years ago and the big ghosts were pretty bad by the end of last season. I saw some amazing Haunted Mansion decor at Lowes a few weeks ago, but it's just not in the budget this year to overhaul a display. This house's external outlets are also really rain sensitive, so every year, the display goes dark any time it rains. We're also super busy...so, I'm not sure what I want to do. I have some rare free time in a couple of weeks, so I may just put out what I've still got and call it a day.
