Halloween 2011. Oct 29th on the Magic

Welcome Tim and Tracey! Kamgen offered up excellant suggestions and I whole heartedly agree with her comment about Palo brunch - it is by far the best meal on the ship! LOVE brunch - dinner is very nice as well. Up there they seem to have tables for two, which you will not get in the regular dining rooms. Just do as much or as little as you like, explore the ports, enjoy Castaway Cay and take in the beauty of the ship.

Denise - hope you had something to read while you waited.

Nothing new to report here - rained during the night, which we needed badly. Thoughts and prayers to anyone in the way of Irene. And did anyone feel the ground shake yesterday? Pretty creepy. What is up with all this Mother Nature stuff?? I feel bad for anyone that is heading to the Dream soon. NOT good.

Welcome Tim and Tracey:

I'm Denise and traveling with Wally....this is my 3rd cruise...agree with Kamy...Palo brunch....its the best... Keep posting so we can get to know you a little better by cruise time....

We are having a cruise meet 3pm on the 29th in the promanade lounge....if you would like to attend , let me know and I will add you to the list.

we are pretty much on the big countdown now...so we are all getting pretty excited.

Nothing new here today...same ole stuff different day....but at least its a day closer to the cruise.

have a good evening all
Denise

Good evening everyone! I am going to Ohio Friday afternoon for a quick visit. They finally took out the ventilator yesterday and have started weaning him from all the medication so I think it is time to go and see him. That way I will be able to get in one more visit before we cruise and hopefully he will be home by then. Thanks again for all your good thoughts and prayers - it works, it really does.

Busy planning Ryan's birthday! Keeping me on my toes. We are surprising him and picking him up early from school tomorrow to take him to his first MLB game! :cool1: So excited! Even got him a Detroit Tigers shirt to wear:thumbsup2 Then Friday we are spending the day with my inlaws and his party is Saturday! Oh to be 6 years old with no worries and a cruise coming up:laughing:

Weather has been good here, seems we were spared the wrath of Irene. My prayers to all those up in NC. We are only getting a little afternoon rain, which is normal for FL. Hoping tomorrow it is sunny and breezy in Tampa for the game:cloud9:

Hello everyone! Hope you are all having a great week thus far.

I have had a crazy couple of weeks with my daughter getting ready to start Kindergarten on Friday. I am really looking forward to getting a break while she is at school in the mornings.

I do have a couple of questions though....

As we are now under the 75 day mark I was wondering if the final tally been posted established for the FE? Is it still open? Just trying to finish up my stuff for the cruise.

I know we are meeting in the Promenade Lounge on the first day at 3pm but I thought I remembered reading that some other meet-ups were in the works. Just trying to make sure I didn't miss something.

Are we still doing the postcard exchange? If so do we have a tally of participants?

For those traveling with school aged kids....Is anyone else going to establish a Homework schedule during the cruise. I was notified by my daughter's new principal that my DD5 will have homework as well as some extra credit activities that she will need to complete or we could get in trouble with the school board as she will be out for 2 consecutive weeks.

Thanks again for all the help great advise and information that everyone has provided. I am really looking forward to meeting everyone soon.

ps - I posted a request on the October 1st Meetup thread and one of the cruisers has promised to update the Navigators upon his return. Will be really nice to see what changes have been made since the last ones were posted in March.

I believe that Gail is keeping tract of the post card exchange list and mentioned that she would post the list begining of October....
I'm not sure who is in charge of the Pj breakfast meet.....so if someone wants to take that list on....I think it would be fun meeting up for breakfast in the middle of the cruise.....:thumbsup2

hey I wish I would've known..I could've gotten you tickets to todays game!!

/
hey whats a postcard exchange..I want to play!!

also am in for pj breakfast.

I've been doing some re-thinking... I might go to MNSSHP earlier in the month and not do it the night before...reason is I'm worried I won't get to bed till like 2am...and then wake up at 7am..then to still have to drive to port canaveral...

I haven't made a definite decision..but i've been thinking..

also miguel now wants to be Ninjas for halloween...:scared1:

Suggestion. As things get closer we are all going to be busier and busier with are preparation so I have a suggestion. Anything activitiy/event related should be posted in red and that way when one quickly scrolls through the posts missed, they can stop and read that. Sound like a plan??

Postcard Exchange. This is just an exchange of postcards from you local area with others on our cruise. You puchase cards from your area and pass them out to those that are signed up at some point on our cruise. You can include anything on the back that you choose but at least your name so we remember. I offered to head this up and keep the list. If you want to participate, please send me a PM with your name and cabin number. I will finalize the list and send it out via the PM system on the DIS after the list closes October 1st. So far there are only 3 of us participating so join in the fun!!

Love the idea of highlighting in RED! Thanks! I've been so busy lately that I just caught up on 1 week or so of posts.

If anyone needs this info....“The latest reports from The National Weather Service have put Castaway Cay out of the projected path of hurricane-force winds,” Rebecca Peddie, manager of public affairs for the Disney Cruise Line, said this afternoon.

That being said, the island will still be subjected to everything this now-Category 3 storm has to offer — wind gusts near 100 mph, roiling waters washing ashore and torrential rain. It’s expected to strengthen to a Category 4 storm before it heads up the East Coast.

“We are monitoring Hurricane Irene very closely as the safety of our guests and crew is our first priority at Disney Cruise Line,” Ms. Peddie said. “We do have a crew hurricane shelter on Castaway Cay should we ever need it.”

aw man..it sux when you can't enjoy castaway cay. It was freeeeeezing when I had went...they said it was the coldest they've ever been when I was on the island...of course!!

Gail: Love the red idea:thumbsup2 so that being said:......

anyone that is still interested to coming to the meet on the 29th, please let me know....I will continue to add to the list....need first names of the adults and kids but also add the childrens ages please.....you can either just add a post or pm me....thanks

Ok I watched the Dream leave port today....I wonder where they are going, as I heard that Nassau got hit by the hurricane......anyway's it was really overcast and raining as they were leaving....hope they have a good and safe cruise.

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome.

Since I don't have 10 posts under my belt, I can only PM staff, so excuse the personal responses below. I assume that I can respond if you PM me, so please feel free.

I was asked to provide some more info so you can get to know us, so here's a little bit more:

We're originally from Connecticut, but have been living out of that state since 1988. For the last seven years, we've lived in the Washington, DC area (Odenton, MD). Tracey is a sales assistant with a large promotions company in Maryland; I am a patent examiner with the US Patent & Trademark Office (yeah, I'm a Fed). I'm 48 and Tracey is 45; we don't have kids, but we do have eight cats (more, so much more, on them later).

So, who can explain fish extenders to me? I've seen pictures of them, but I don't exactly understand how they work. If someone is keeping a list of participants, please sign us up and let me know what we need to do (besides making the FE).

Dixielady908: Thanks for the heads-up on the 10/29 meet, we'd love to join in. our intention is to do as much with the community as possible, so please let me know what else is going on.

glindamood: Please add me to the postcard exchange, if you would.

Thanks again everyone!
Timmer

Sing along - my bags are packed I'm ready to go, I'm sitting here a watching the clock. I hate to sit and wait when I could drive...

OK, enough. Sick I say - SICK. But, my bag is in the car and I am ready :). I said I would stay until 1:00 so here I am. I am glad to be going actually - kind of a mini vacation of sorts. And, my Dad still seems to be making baby steps in the right direction so we shall see how that all goes. Feeding tube is in (kinked and they straightened it back out I think) so I am anxious to see him tomorrow.

Everyone have a great weekend. And - stay out of Irene's way. Such good news that she didn't make a stop at CC. We missed docking when we did the PC trip in January so I am ready to see her again - and have a konk kooler!
