I am hoping that all the dads out there have a wonderful day with their families.

I am missing my dad today but at least I was lucky enough to talk to him on the phone.

I am happy to be spending the day with my DH and DD today relaxing around the house. My DD5 and I have also been laying out stuff in preparation of starting on our FE gifts for the cruise. I made a quick trip to Michael's to look for fabric to use on my FE hanger. I haven't found any yet that I really like. I did decide though to use a some old fabric I have to make a test hanger with. I figure since the fabric is very girly I can use it in my daughter's room to keep some of her art supplies if it works out. I figure it will cut down on the learning curve for the one I want to bring on the cruise. I have also discovered that they really up-charge Disney fabrics.

I am so over my budget already and we haven't even booked any excursions on the cruise yet.

I created a spreadsheet to try and track all the expenses I anticipate but it seems to be growing daily. I am wondering what is each of yours favorite savings tool.

I'm making a list of things to do in preparation to save money while visiting the resort and on the cruise.

1. purchased costumes already (while they are on clearance)
2. purchased glow sticks, small hand held fans, etc from the dollar store
3. asked friends and family to send disney gift cards for my daughter to use while she is on the cruise
4. plan to buy new swimsuits, sandals, coverups, etc after the summer ends during the clearance sales
5. making family t-shirts to be worn during the trip (using artwork created by some of the amazing DISigners) instead of buying overpriced t-shirts at the park

So these are a few of my ideas. I am always open to any suggestions for saving money during the trip.

Again I hope you all have a great day!
Desiree

We are renting a car to get from WDW to the port and will make a grocery stop for beer and Pepsi. While I could drink Coke from the beverage station on deck 9, I am not a Coke girl so either I go without or I get a 12 pack. Beer is also less expensive at Publix than it is on the ship and a Bud Light is a Bud Light. We have a small collapsible cooler that is kept full of ice and there are always a few of each in there. We also take the cooler to CC. I will also get or have a few bottles of water that we refill on the ship and take with us when we leave the ship.

One can do the ship with no additional charges other than tips but that means no pictures, spa or drinks. We don't generally get pictures so that isn't an issue for us and I am not a spa girl either unless I go in for a foot and ankle but I do enjoy my going to the piano bar before dinner for a cocktail. And then there is the coffee in the Cove - that is my afternoon treat.

Higgins..I just remembered...try Walmarts fabrics..they had a lot of disney stuff there. might be cheaper..but you know Michael's has their coupons every week (although I didn't get one in my sunday paper yesterday!)...do you have a Joanns? they had a coupon for fabric.

I'm with Gail...except I bought pictures and I spent I think $100 on them or $120..can't remember..I still haven't put them all up in frames!!!! In my head I budget it for $100 again. that means 3 8x10s, and 4 5x10s. I'm not going to do the whole formal pictures. but I want at least one from the restaurants, which I didn't get last time, and I want some in our Halloween costumes, and I want to get character pictures on Castaway Cay again. Those were my favorites.

I brought a case of water on board with me. OMG its a nightmare to carry on all that stuff but I figure its only temp stress to keep on budget ...last time I had my stepsister this time its just me...so we'll see how it works out.

oh and I spent about $50 on drinks/snacks at the Walt Disney Theatre...:confused3 so that was stupid. I'm bringing my own snacks next time.

Higgins...don't feel like you have to do an excursion. Like at Grand Cayman, the 7mile beach is right next to the Port. You can just go there and soak up some sun and sand. and its a beautiful beach. I can't say for Cozumel but like I said I'm staying on the ship Cozumel/Key West days.

well we are blazing hot over here still. you sweat from walking from your house to your car. I miss being in Magic Kingdom on these days.

Just a quick thought: for those who want beer/liquor/water but won't have transportation, our first stop is Key West. While I haven't been there, I have heard that there is a CVS/Rite Aid/Walgreens within walking distance of the port.

MommaMouse,

I looked at the FE list and noticed that we are not on there yet. Go ahead and put us down. We have already been assigned our stateroom as well (6146). Now that we are completely paid for I can concentrate on all the other expenses. We'd also like to participate in the FE, so it will be myself(41), DH(47) and DD(5).

Let me know if you need any additional information.

There is also a winery pretty close by where you can go for tastings and purchases if the tastings agree with you. If I can manage to roll there after brunch, we might give it a try.

Not great news from here today - my Dad is in the hospital again. He has congestive heart failure and it is tough. I called him yesterday but he could only say a sentence or two and was all winded. But, my Mom seemed pretty encouraged - had been to see him and he had eaten all his dinner and could carry on a conversation so my guess is maybe he shouldn't wait so long next time. Scares me - he is so stubborn. And you will never guess who else has that gene!!!

Take care and thanks for listening. MUGGY here.

Gail: Hope your dad is out of the hospital soon.....

Nothing going on here....talking rain later on today, but so far nice and sunny out.....

Have a great day

Gail,

Best wishes for a speedy improvement for your father.

From our front... I found two words that can not be 'Disney-fied' in any way....."head lice"

Found them on DD5 at 8:30 Saturday night. I bolted or Walgreens to get the shampoo and stuff while my DW started checking everyone else. Got the phone call - 'get enough shampoo for DD9'. Standing in front of the shelf trying to figure out what to buy, phone call 'get enough for DD11'. AAaarrggghhh! Thank goodness DD11 has been growing her hair out for Locks of Love for the last 2 years - that makes the job go way faster.:sad2:

We were shampooing and combing out nits til after midnight. Started what turned out to be over 36hours of laundry - those kids have WAY too many blankets and things. Have 2 big bags of pillows and stuffed animals sealed up for the foreseeable future. Sunday morning, rechecked DS8 - sure enough, he's got them, too. :scared1:

Now we're combing out hair on 4 kids, twice per day. Washing everything that may have touched a kids head daily. Is there any place that kids between the ages of 5 and 11 DON'T put their heads? I haven't found any.

DW and I have stayed bug free, but anytime we are combing out the kids, we get that itchy feeling like something is crawling on our scalps. It makes us nuts.

Hopefully, by next weekend we'll be bug and nit free.

I need a cruise, but don't think I can wait another 130 days!

Take care everyone.

higgins...I added you to the list!

Gail..I pray for a speedy recovery for your pops.

sailworkless...I had head lice when I was 23yrs old. I worked for a group home. and it was 24/7 so I was covering a overnight shift and slept on the couch...i had very long hair..and was not going to cut it...so the girls and I helped each other comb out the eggs...how gross...I am always now petrified of getting lice from like the theatre and places that my hair can touch...:scared1:

Thanks eveyrone on the good wishes for my Dad, you are the BEST!

sailworkless - youngest DS had them once - he had a buzz and I was just sitting waiting for one of the older boys to finish some sort of practice, he was in my lap and a could see them moving. CREEPY but I went home, washed his bedding, got the special shampoo and that was the end of it. Thank heaven that was it. So I hope that you have the situation under control and they are all gone.

Paid for our dining plan today - am going to try and book Cinderella's Castle for breakfast on the 29th. We shall see. We also have to pick up the rental car that day so I guess I will take the earlier time.

Take care - we fly 18 weeks from today. Actually, 18 weeks from this very moment, we will be in the air.
