Half the attractions at magic kingdom closed? Weather? Do we get notice?

I just saw on the MDE app that like half the rides in the magic kingdom right now are closed. Due to weather? Is anyone currently there recently or today?

Safety First. If there is lightening within a certain distance to the parks, they will close down attractions. Not sure the distance though. If you miss a Fast Pass they will still honor it though if the attraction was closed. Even if you encounter difficulties with that, you can often go to customer service and they will usually hook you up. (That is unless you are habitual complainer... they know that too as they track all that stuff).

Oh ok. If it just rains? They are still open? Maybe from my previous thread I will do that monorail tour of the hotels if storms lol

With rain it depends. A light drizzle and most outdoor attractions will stay open. Heavy downpours and they will close for safety. Also while it may not look like lightening Disney has a strike clearance of several miles so they could shut down outdoor attractions in Epcot for a strike that you couldn't see.

Do indoor attractions and shows see higher wait times during storms or do most people just leave the park?

I'm only seeing about 5 things closed from all 4 parks right now.

With so many people paying so much for tickets, and with those people having FP+ reservations..I think more and more people stay during rain now.
(At least during my past few summers, it doesn't seem like a normal rain reduces crowds much. Hours of rain will result in a tired exodus after fireworks..and then finally light crowds, but most will now stay long enough to get their money's worth)

Well yea... if it's raining hard or storming they have to close the outdoor attractions.

We rode the people mover during a thunderstorm Wednesday. So they don't close everything. Astro orbitor next door was closed It was booming to the point that I was scared. Yeah, we had gotten to that point. It was a week of storms, heavy rains, and lots of them. We had had enough of indoor attractions, and just wanted somewhere semi dry. They let us stay on 2 rounds. It was nice. We didn't find that many people left. I think in a situation like that, where most of the week was wet, you can't afford to spend the week leaving.

You're not going to see a mass exodus of people leaving just because it rains, and then an empty park afterwards (unless you're at one of the water parks, where all attractions are outdoors). Some people will leave, but plenty stick it out. If you came prepared (waterproof shoes, poncho, etc.) you can just keep going in the rain, while you will see some groups of people huddled under awnings and things to stay dry.

I can testify that they will run Expedition Everest in a monsoon like rain as I rode it in those conditions 3 days ago. They only close that ride for lightening.

if you have a FP during a time when the ride shuts down, you get a freebie on MDE app, so make sure you check often.

A few years ago we were there during a heavy rain. They were running EE even in the rain. While I did not really want to get drenched, my 2 DD's wanted to go on it, so we went. Fortunately for me, the rain subsided as we were loading the cars. Yea Me! :D

During our May trip we were one load away from riding BTMRR when they shut it down. We were told they can run in the rain, but if there is any lightning or severe weather within 10-12 miles of WDW, all outdoor rides and attractions are shut down.

June 2 it rained the entire time we were at AK but Everest continued to run. We got in the FP line right before the rain started and by the time we loaded it was pouring. We were worried they would shut it down and we'd end up not being able to ride like BTMRR a few days earlier. Fortunately, they ran the ride...unfortunately, we got SOAKED..lol. The ride definitely isn't as fun with rain slapping you in the face.
