Are half portions available at the WDW restaurants? If so, how do they charge for them?

Because of some recent medical issues my stomach has gotten small and I can't eat much at a time. I know I won't be able to eat a single full meal on our trip. Last night I started thinking I should ask on here if I could get a half meal portion anywhere. I know I won't be able to at places like Cape May or Garden Grill. But what about at the other restaurants?

My main concern is that I don't want to waste a lot of food. I'd rather have them just prepare a half portion so we don't have to throw out the rest since we won't be going back to our room quickly to refrigerate the leftovers.

I haven't tried to ask for a half-portion -- never occurred to me. It would be great if you could order one, though.

What I do is split and entree with my DD or my DH. ;)

I think they do offer the option of child's portions from the adult menu, but that may only be for children.
Also, some restaurants will allow you to order off the kids' menu as an adult, but as the kids' menu tends to be less than appetizing I wouldn't recommend it.

I suppose all you can do is try...another option might be just ordering an appetizer, or a couple, as your meal.

I have ordered half portions at Artist Point at WL. I usually just share a meal with DH and avoid buffets and family style meals. Sometimes I just order an appetizer... Last week we shared at Kona Cafe, Nine Dragons and Turf Club at SSR.

Thanks for the replies. The sad thing is that I'm limited on what I can eat because of my allergies and Celiac Disease. So many appetizer options won't work. I don't want to split entrees with my husband because I want him to have all the stuff he loves. He loves seafood and that is marked off of my list.

I thought it was worth asking about.

If you contact, WDW dining, or you WDW resort...they will work with you on your dietary issues. You can pre-plan your meals....and request smaller portions. But, you need to do the work with them prior. Good Luck

1) There are no half portions.
2) You can ask for less food, but it is the same price.
3) It is just too hard to satisfy every situation.
4) As an option, go ala carte for menu items.

As you have a medical condition and allergies, I'd assume you are working with special diets. They may be the ones you should ask, although I have not heard of anyone being able to order limited portions at a reduced price unless they ordered from the children's menu. You may be able to get your portions limited but I doubt they'll reduce the price.

Yes, I am already working with the Special Diets Department and they are WONDERFUL.

The cost thing isn't an issue. I just wanted to check since I can no longer eat a full meal. I wanted to see if others had any experience in with this.

All of my meals, even CS, have already been planned because of all my restrictions.

Thanks for all the input.

Oh, half portions sounds like such a wonderful idea-I wish they offered them. As a solo diner lots of times, I end up leaving so much on my plate because I never have anyone to share with. I've occassionally taken a left-over bag, but on one trip I had so many left-overs left over on the last day, I don't do that any more. I wish they had "solo diners portions".

I have ordered half-portions at Artist Point and they deducted $10 from the cost of the meal.
