Half marathon corral assignment question

My wife and I sent in a time of 2:35 for the Half, and we were apparently placed in corral I, the one right before 3:00. Is anyone else in that same time range? Are there that many 2:30-ish runners that there is a big gap to 3:00? I'm a bit disappointed we weren't in a earlier corral.

Half marathon corral placement seems a little off. I'm also in corral I with a POT of 2:06 - but I'm running Dopey. J corral should probably be listed as less than 3:00 so you'd be looking at 2:50-3:00 or something like that. so 2:35-2:50 for corral I isn't probably too far off.

My time for a half marathon is fairly close to your time...I am in coral K which is two corals behind you however I am doing the Dopey. Apparently they give leeway for those doing a Dopey. Of course I would like to be further up the line but I am happy with K for both the half and full.

Some friends of mine that are running with my wife and I are in Corral M. They did not submit POT; however they estimated their finish time in the 2:30 range.

DH is corral C with a time of 1:53 submitted. Just remember that the corrals are much smaller this year than last so you shouldn't have as much of a crowd crossing the starting mats. There is a breakdown on here somewhere that shows this years corral placements compared to last year and with DH being in C it still compares to A from the numbers last year. So your H corral would probably be comparable to B from last year. They are just trying to do away with the awful starting congestion from last year.

Thanks, everyone! It sounds like we are probably in the right place. I wonder why Disney even publishes the time estimates by corral if they don't really follow them.
No matter -- I'm sure we will have a great time!

I'm also in corral I and submitted a 4:43 marathon time (2:21ish half, though I usually run sub 2) for the Goofy. I think as a previous poster said they allow more time for goofy\dopey. But what's weird is my BIL submitted a 2:17 half time and is in corral F... so our POTs were ~ 5 mins apart and yet he's 3 corrals ahead of me???

That's the Goofy/Dopey penalty. Seems to be 2-3 corrals on the half, with placement about as expected on the full.

Yep, sounds about right. I am also doing Dopey, and submitted a 2:19 half, and I'm in corral I. I read that they have a 15 minute "penalty" for Goofy/Dopey, so that would be about right on.

How did you find out what corral you are in?

How did you find out what corral you are in?

go to rundisney.com, to the Marathon weekend info, click on Runner Info, then on Waivers. Click on the link on that page in the sentence "Click here to download and print your race number pick-up/waiver form now!"

Enter your info and it will give you the waiver that you need to sign and bring, and that will also give you your bib number.

Then go to Corral and Bib Assignment under Runner Info. You will see:

View your corral placement:

View Marathon Corral Placement
View Half Marathon Corral Placement
View Goofy Corral Placement
View Dopey Corral Placement

Click whichever is appropriate for you, put your info in, and it will show you the bib numbers in each corral.

Match it up! :)

Of course, if you like surprises, just print off the waiver page. When you turn it in and get your bib at the Expo, that will show your corral on it. :)

It's honestly not a penalty........

The preferential seeding is on marathon morning and with the insane desire to make dopey and goofy runners wear a bib twice, the corral is based entirely on that. The half is otherwise seeded based on the entries for that year and with the goofy dopey runners overlaid. It just happens that this year the half only runners seeded out a little slower then historic so the Goofy Dopey folks are in and amongst slower half runners. This is compounded with an additional 5000 multi race runners being overlaid onto the half.

We, the multi race runners need to insist on multiple bibs for the half and full. With that, we would be better seeded in the half making the race smother and safer for all. Seriously for $500 or $300, it seems as though the rD folks could afford one bib per race. I would hope that anyone receiving a survey would mention this. Maybe we can make it go away.

Maybe it's unintentional, but it is a penalty. I earned a starting position that is at least two corrals ahead of where I'll be starting. If I weren't running Dopey I wouldn't be placed with and behind runners who will be running at a significantly slower pace.

You're right, it is a penalty. I've seen a lot of comments, though, along the lines of thinking Disney did this intentionally, like they're intentionally trying to slow down the multi-race runners in the half, Jeff Galloway suggests taking the half easy so they did it this way, etc. I'm pretty sure the only thing Disney did intentionally is "simplify" things by issuing one bib/corral for the half and full. Instead, they've complicated things, because I'm pretty sure I haven't seen a single Dopey or Goofy runner who has expressed any satisfaction with their half marathon corral placement. And then, if someone was honest about their projected marathon time - say they've got a 4:15 PR but they expect to take it easy on the full and finish in 4:45 - they've been placed appropriately with their slower projected finish time for the full, and in what's probably an absurdly slow corral for them for the half.

I think Coach is probably spot on with his reasoning. I don't think it's runDisney trying to dictate to Dopey/Goofy runners what the ideal pace strategy should be. That would be way out of bounds.
