Happy 30th Anniversary
to an awesome couple!
Congratualtions Scott & Lynn!

Thanks Margie!

Good Morning Team!

I survived my 10K walk this morning – I had done nothing over the weekend, except go thru 8000+ pictures we took on our trip – I weeded them down to 7000+. We are celebrating our anniversary by going to Scott’s Orthopod appt. in Loveland, CO, then maybe do some shopping and have some dinner. We celebrated the anniversary on our cruise.

Margie – at least we do not have the humidity here – it can be in the 90’s, but the humidity will usually be under 50 percent, sometimes WAY under 50 percent. pixiedust:for your cold!

Regina – Boise is a nice area also, we really liked the bike path by the river.

Dave – sounds like you had a fun weekend!

Hi to everyone else!

Have a great day all!

Happy Monday everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend! I did my 10 miler race yesterday. Even though I've done bigger races before, it was my first time running that distance as a race.

So I woke up shortly after 6AM so I could get in a quick breakfast of an oatmeal bowl and an apple before leaving. I had put everything out the night before so I was ready. By 7:10AM, I was ready and out the door! The streets were empty and it took me less than 15 minutes to get downtown - instead of the usual 30+ mins during the weekday rush. We got free parking on a nearby streets but the paid parking lots that were close by had lots of room. I sat in the car for a few minutes to finish off my coffee and then walked over to the race site. There was still plenty time as it was 7:30 and the race didn't start for another hour.

I lined up for the porta-potties and then started stretching and worked on finishing my water bottle. We were lucky as there was a break in the humidity but it was still sunny out and the forecast was calling for hot weather. I figured the racers would be okay because it was still an early start. I was about to head over to the corrals at about 8:20 but then realized I had a little too much water. I had to get in a really long line for the porta-potties again. I chatted with a older gentleman while in line and talked about the course and some upcoming races. I did manage to make it out on time but it was really close - Just as I got settled into my corral, the race started.

The race course starts in a part of downtown Toronto called the Distillary District and then goes south out to a park that goes out into the harbour a little and then turns around back to the start. I think there were close to 1,500 runners so the course was a little crowded at first. It thinned out after half a mile or so. The temperature at this point wasn't too bad - it was sunny out but the sun hadn't come out all the way.

At about the 1.5 mile mark, I ran over a pothole and had my left leg bend at an awkward angle. I dropped a huge F bomb (sorry to anyone who had to hear that) :headache:. I had my ankle tape up so I think it stayed straight *phew* but the knee hurt a lot. I slowed down my pace a little and I think it was okay. Just not a very pleasant experience. By the time we approached the entrance to the park, the sun was out completely and it was hot. There was a misting tent at the entrance which I ran through. It felt good but it went by too quickly. Considering it was a park, there was little to no shade at all. The runners were all out in the sun and it made it difficult to keep going at a fast pace. I stopped and drank water + Gatorade at all the stops but still felt really hot.

I caught up with the older gentleman that I had been chatting with at the half way mark. I ran with him for a bit as he was going at about a 9:15-9:30 m/m pace. I lost him after I stopped coming out of the park to go through the misting tent again and to grab more water.

I had wanted to run the last half of the race without stopping but I quite a few people being treated by medics on the side of the road so it spooked me out a little bit. I've never experienced dehydration or heat stroke so I wasn't sure what signs to look for in case I got in trouble. I figured, I'd lose a few minutes by sticking with the run/walk intervals but better than collapsing by the side of the road. I noticed on the turnaround back to the finish, most of the runners were trying to grab some shade that the highway overpass was creating. The space of the shade was only about 1 person wide so everyone was running in single file :)

Made it to the finish in 1:38:47, just a few minutes longer than I would have liked but all things considered - temperature, my pulled back muscle, ankle and recent stress level, I'm pretty happy with the results. After the finish, I stood in the misting tent for a long time - it felt really good! Someone later told me that the temperature that morning was 33C (91.4F) with the humidity! Crazy!

I posted some of the pics on my FB so I'll get the link at home later tonight and see if they work here.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Team,

Just a quick fly-by today, I ran 4 miles after work yesterday morning and took today off. I'm hoping to make tomorrow a long run with 8, but it's a summercamp day for Robert so I'll have to watch my time.

Scott&Lynn~ Congratulations on 30 years! More than both my marriages put together! :rotfl:

Vicky~ Great time on your race! Especially in the hot conditions!

Dave&Sally~ Way to get out there and keep moving!

Jennifer~ I might have missed it in the posts, any word on the Miss USA qualifying? How are you after the accident?

Margie~ Any Disney decorations in Hagen's room?

-Mike :cool2:

Hey team!

Remember me? I'm still here. Work's been crazy, my coworker is still out with her injury. Poor thing. Hopefully she'll get back to work soon.
34333_415571978753_513883753_4439309_6143373_n.jpg

Today, Nick and I spent some time at the beach with the princess and Miranda. Had a blast and actually managed to almost avoid getting sunburned. Quite impressive for me, who usually walks outside in June through August and bursts into flames. But poor Nick (who wasn't constantly bathing in sunscreen) is toast. He burned the tops of his feet-ouch!!

Mike, State finals are in November, I'll keep you guys posted.

Margie, Physically yes. Mentally, I'm still getting over it.

I'm helping coach/run the coach to 5k program at my gym. Tonight was the first night. So 2 miles with the group I'm training (run/walk training to full run) and then 5 miles on my own (9 minute pace [it's coming back slowly but surely]).

Best,
Jennifer

Here's the link to my FB race photos. Hope it will work.

Dave - I've been doing the back stretches and taking it easy :) Sometimes it's hard to hold yourself back when you feel like there's so much you want to do but you're right about back injuries taking time to heal. How's your heel doing?

Margie - for you and Hagen! I keep thinking about him and how hard this must be. Do you have pics of his newly designed
room?

Scott/Lynn - Congrats on your anniversary! pixiedust: for Scott's knee!

Hope - The little one is getting big now! How old is she? I can never go out in the sun without a hat otherwise my scalp burns and the peeling makes my hair look yucky.

Mike - You're really putting in the hours at work. No wondering you haven't had the time to run. Good job on the 4! Which restaurants are you looking to book?

Jennifer - The new coaching job sounds fun! Are you working with experienced runners or beginners?

Regina - Sorry to hear about the shoes. You'll get different opinions depending who you talk to. When I was first fitted for shoes, the first running store I went to said that I needed stability shoes while the second store said I needed motion control shoes. I've asked both my chiro and PT about it and they don't believe that runners need corrective shoes but they're not runners. So it seems like whatever you're most comfortable in. Sorry, that's probably not much help.

Emily WTG on the 7 miler! Send some of that cool weather up for us :)

Sue - Back and ankle are doing okay! I was very glad the humidity broke yesterday but man was it ever hot out on that course. There's no shade along Lakeshore Road or in Tommy Thompson Park. My calves are really sore today - did a little bit of the foam roller but it hurt.

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

Had a nice anniversary, thanks kids.

Knee will need surgery for the meniscus, the MRI showed arthritis bad enough to be warned of knee replacement. So I will be walking the events, and returning to the bicycle, watch out tour de France ....lol.

Life is good just have to refocus on different activity.

Other good issues at work have my mind going 1000 mph.

Keep up the good work team , always look on the bright side of life......

Hey team......am I allowed back:flower3: Sorry I have been away so long and soooo out of the loop.

Hope everyone is doing great, I have been keeping up my P90X workouts to be honest, no movement on the scale or many inches for that matter but I notice I am alot stronger and can actually do "guy" push ups..about 6 - 8 depending on the day so it is helping. I know why the scale isn't moving it is because of my diet which I have been working hard at this week so hope to start seeing some downward momentum :)

Good Morning Team!

Welcome back Kim!!! Of course we will take you back!

Vicky - congrats on the race! Hot ones are always more difficult.

Hope - welcome back to you also!

The dogs and I got out this morning for a 3 miler - it was warmer than it has been, I was glad that today was a shorter walk. I guess I will have to start getting up earlier:rotfl:

Hi to all that I missed!

Have a great day team!

Good Morning Team!

Scott & Lynn, Happy Belated Anniversary! Scott, Sorry to hear that the knee will require surgery. pixiedust:

Vicky, Nice pics. & great race result.

Kim, Glad to see you back. Did you end up doing Buffalo? If you posted I must have missed. Thoughts on this race?

Margie, Did I post before you today? Are you not usually the 1st.

AFM, I did something crazy. Early this year I said I wouldn't be doing Disney in January. Well I made it to July & caved to my own pressure.
Hotel & Car are booked. Just need to decide on the distance. Goofy vs Full?
So undecided. :confused3 Please feel free to comment.

Hi team! I've got a PT appointment tonight. It was suppose to be for training but it might end up being an ART session for my calves. I hope not because I've been missing running because of my back for the past two weeks and my workouts have been lighter as well because of that. Margie, I think you're going to have to put in every body part down for me soon including broken spirit. Too much stress :(

Lynn - WTG on the 3 miler! I hope it doesn't get too warm where you are. I can only imagine how hot our mornings will be if that's the case.

Scott - Sorry to hear about the upcoming knee surgery. I do like your attitude though and how you're looking toward other activities like walking and cycling. :thumbsup2

Kim - Good job with the PX90! You must be getting stronger if you're able to get in 6-8 guy pushups. They're tough! Keep up the good work!

I'd better get back to work! Have a great day everyone :wave2:

Oops I missed your post Sue! I think it would be fun to have another Goofy medal but I know the three races are very expensive. It's up to you - if it's more of a vacation type of trip, then I would just do the full. But if you're going specifically for the races, then I'd vote for the Goofy :)

Good Afternoon, Team! :wave2:

Partly Cloudy - High 84°-69% Humidity

Connie-how is the new mule (Pat) fitting in?
Oh, I want some squash too!

Dave- Ouch -Take care of that foot!

Emily-:wave2:

Gerry-nice to hear from you!

Hope- great picture of the little Princess!

Kim- :wave2:

Lynn-WTG getting your hot 3-miler in! :woohoo:

Mike-WTG on your 4-miler! :woohoo:
No, my little Hagen’s room (he picked it out) is a cars & trucks theme
For Disney it is a toss up between Buzz Lightyear & Speed McQueen-
And those themes are too busy for a bedroom -

Regina- Are you on track Training?

Scott- Bummer on the knee problems and needing surgery.
Walking is good and you will enjoy! :goodvibes
I do like bikes-What bikes are you guys looking at?

Sue-I do usually post earlier before my day starts
but I do not feel good and my day started before I was ready! :confused3
Right now it is nap time so I have a few minutes.

Congratulations on WDW Marathon Weekend!
Do whatever race YOU feel comfortable with.
We will be here cheering for you!

Vicky- Hang in there
DD took pictures of My Little Hagen’s room

I enjoyed reading your race report - :cheer2::cheer2:

Thanks for sharing the great pictures!

Hi y'all.

I have been good since walking the race saturday, not race walking just walking. I've been good and done all the stuff I need to do to help my PF heal. I've been wearing my flip flops around the house instead of being bare foot as Margie instructed.

I went to the pool and worked out in the water then stretched really good in the hot whirlpool. Right now my foot is not hurting when I walk around slow, good sign.

Scott take care of that knee and it would be an honor to walk a marathon with you brother.

Lynn keep that wild man from doing anything dumb with that knee issue.

Vicky, you rock girl!!

Mike I saw where they are having one of those adventure races you talked about in Austin Tx. I wish I was well I might consider if some issues come together.

Margie, you just won't let me pout about my sore feet will you.:thumbsup2

Everyone have a great evening.

Dave:hippie:

Hi everyone!!!!!!

Sue: No I didn't do Buffalo, we just got back from a Alaskan cruise the week before and wasn't really up to the travel again. Mike and I decided on the full. I really want another goofy medal but the cost is just crazy.

Margie: Sorry you aren't feeling well, summer colds I think are worse then winter ones.

Off to dinner, be back

I think the full is a good choice Kimmer, you wouldn't have been satisfired if you did just the half.

Dave:hippie:

The princess is now nine months. Loves to crush things with Nick. He kept building her little sand castles and she'd crush them. Hours of fun with Uncle Nick. :goodvibes That hat didn't last very long, but we had a little umbrella hut thing where she and Mir hid under there.

Hey everyone,

Scott & Lynn- Happy belated anniversary!!!

Scott- Sorry to hear you have to have surgery on your knee? How soon will that take place?

Sue- You know it never even occurred to me my issue could be the running on the TM…and now it’s been so long since I’ve only been running on the TM that I can’t remember if I had issues on the ground as well? I’ll have to make it a point to run on the ground this week and see how it feels. Thanks for the good thinking/question! :thumbsup2 Which are you leaning toward more, goofy or full? What are the positives to both and what puts you on the fence about deciding which one?

Lynn- Are you going to post your pictures at some point? Yes, the greenbelt is a very nice walking/running/biking path. Good luck getting up earlier! Let me know how it goes!

Vicky- Great race report! I enjoyed reading it! How are your calves feeling? And your ankle? :rotfl:, I loved that people were running single file just to stay in the shade. Great job on your race!!! Nice pics! Thanks for the feedback on the shoes. I’m curious to see what shoes the other running store will put me in. I just want shoes that feel comfortable on my feet. Of course, I never considered it could be the TM (as Sue pointed it out it could be) so I guess I’ll just have to continue on and use process of elimination? How’d your PT appt go?

Jennifer- Glad it’s coming back to you!

Hope- Glad you’re still around! Great job staying on top of the sunscreen! How’s Nick fairing with his sunburn?

Kim- Welcome back! Good luck with your dieting/losing weight! Glad P90X is going well.

Margie- Cars and trucks sounds like a great theme! Yes, I think technically I’m on track for my training. My legs are soooo sore though from weightlifting…I lifted weights on Friday night and it still hurts to walk on Tuesday!! But, I can do 1 plank for 1 minute each on both sides and front and am going to continue building up from there…and I’m going to continue pushing forward on the weights and hope eventually the soreness goes away. As for the running, I’m keeping an eye on the knees. The running itself is going ok though I think. I'm right where I was when I hurt my foot/ankle so I'm a little nervous to make it through the next 2 weeks....

Dave- Glad you’re doing well since the race last weekend.

AFM- I was supposed to do a 4 mile run today but knew I would be too exhausted after not getting off work until 8pm, so I switched my weights to today and will run the 4 miles tomorrow. My legs are pretty sore still so I tried not to go overboard. I did some calf raises and lunges, some bicep curls and some core. Not too much, but hopefully enough to help a little.:confused3I also spent a lot of time stretching my legs. DH goes back to night shift for 2 months tomorrow, which of course I think is so lame! :sad2:

Does anyone have any suggestions for improving muscle soreness besides taking an ice bath? I just can't bring myself to try an ice bath...if I iced just the sore parts would that help? Or what about like a bengay/tiger balm thing?

Also, has anyone ever done the Princess half or considered it? Just curious...

Have a great day tomorrow everyone!
