Hakuna Matada - Spooky October

Hi Team!

Regina~ Glad to hear you are doing so well! It's good to enjoy your runs!

Dave~ PD for your cold, hope that you beat it soon. Working with the public almost always nets me some kind of bug.

Lynn~ Enjoy the new phone, see you on FB? Please, keep the snow a while longer... I'm not ready yet!

AFM~ Today was rest and recovery, after my first night back to work, I'm sleeping most of the day!

-Mike :cool2:

Good Morning Team!

Dave - take care of the cold!

Mike - Snow did not last long, but it has been cold, 23 degrees this morning. I am not ready for snow yet either!

AFM - nothing too exciting - another 45 min on spin bike, forgot to even get dogs for their walk, have been too busy trying to pack for our WDW trip, getting laundry done and other chores.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team! Sorry to be MIA - October is the year end for our company so it feels like there's 200% more work! Funny thing is that everyone always seems surprised once October rolls around.

I had a workout on Monday which really kicked my butt! I had a hard time pushing the stupid sandbag around the gym. I thought about jumping on it and kicking it when I was done but figured with my luck, I'd probably slip off and retweak my ankle  I went for a 5 mile run last night and it felt pretty good. Not much in the way of my knees or ankles bothering me so that was a relief. I did go much slower for the first half and used 5/1 intervals. Tonight is a rest night so I might do some baking. My PT's birthday is on Saturday so maybe I'll make a batch of cookies.

Sorry for the short post. I promise to catch up with everyone again soon!

Tonight

I got extra man points for doing the group training walk even though it was 47 chilly degrees and misting rain. The walk was super with a good pace and great fellowship. My cold is much better so the three days of rest did the trick.

Hope everyone is feeling good and your training is going well.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Everyone!

Cold and Blustery day here. Up to three inches of rain and 50 mph gusts expected tonight. I've been hibernating all day, avoiding the gloomy weather, and resting up for the next few busy days. Tomorrow is a run, laundry, grocery shopping, volunteering at Robert's school, and little sleep. Friday will be packet pick up for Saturday's race, post office, bills, and maybe sitting down to watch the Chicago marathon with On Demand, and really wanting to be at WDW and the Goofy!

Vicky~ Don't work too hard!

- Mike :cool2:

Hey there team!!

Mike - Cold and rainy here also. Some delays here at work for ORD and the eastcoast. This rainy stuff seems to stretch the whole way!

Dave - Glad you are feeling better! WTG on the group walk! :woohoo:

Vicky - My busy season at work is when everyone else is usually vacationing! Hope you get some rest and don't overdo training on that newly healed ankle! Glad it is better!!

Lynn - You keep that messy white stuff you way for a bit ok? Soon you will be in the land of the mouse and it is still pretty warm there so YAY!

Regina - Have only been on the bike twice..I like it so far, but it'll take some getting used to being bike after all these years! Jordan did pace me the last 6 miles of my 16 the weekend before last. It was nice to have extra water and company. We are trying to figure out how he can pace me for my 18 miles this weekend. He loves being out there on the bike, which is good since he doesn't do much else for exercise.

Today was a cross day for my so I hit the gym and rode 30 minutes on the recumbent bike and did some minimal core work due to time restraints. Tomorrow I have a 4 mile tempo run and then just core on Friday. 9 miles on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Hoping to just get through this weekend. I have not had great long runs the last two that I did so I'm really hoping that this Sunday I just get out there and kill it to help with my bad attitude...lol!

Hope everyone is staying dry and warm..and if you are out training in this rain just remember that electric blankets are WONDERFUL!

Feeling sorry for yourself should be one of the deadly sins, or at least Thou Shall Not Feel Sorry For Yourself should be one of the TEN Commandments. It just empowers you with an excuse for not moving forward.

I just wrote that today and wanted to share. I'm as bad as anyone about that and have to remind myself to bear up and get my Grrrrrr!! on.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Good to hear ankle is getting better!

Kim - Only 2 more days of work - right?

Dave - Glad to hear you are recovering quickly!

Eva - It has been nice here, no more snow predicted until next Tues or Wed, but we will not be here, we will be at WDW!

Mike - Is there a weekend that you are not racing?!?

AFM - Nice here yesterday, but I had a hair appointment in the afternoon, so I missed the optimum time to be outside on the bike, Scott did get outside and I got on the spin bike for 45 min when I got home. Supposed to be warmer today but more windy - we have to get our sprinklers blown out for the winter today. That is a major project.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi Team!

Lynn- I bet your balcony lights will look great! Yes, it was the greenbelt in Boise/Garden City. The sad thing is I had never run on it when I lived there because I never wanted to drive so far to get there just for a run. But with my family’s house being less than 5 minutes from a spot to hop on it, it worked out perfectly. I’m glad you were declared healthy! How do you like your new phone? Did the sprinkler blow-out go ok? It can be time consuming.

Dave- Running Goofy with the flu sounds pretty miserable to me! You must be tough! Glad you’re feeling better! I agree- it is a great reminder to not feel sorry for ourselves.

Mike- I hope you enjoyed your rest day! How did your run today go? Good luck on your race this weekend!!

Vicky- That’s good your 5 mile run went well. What did you end up baking?

Eva- I think having Jordan pace you is a fantastic idea. Does he ride to meet you at a certain point, or pace you the whole way? I hope your 18 mile run goes better than your last 2 long runs have. You deserve a good long run!

AFM, we have nothing exciting going on over here. DH and I ran 5 miles this morning and our doodle girl, Sydney, ran the whole 5 miles with us! She did fantastic. We usually don’t take her longer than 4 miles, but today she was still doing well at miles 3 and 4, so we just kept her with us the whole way instead of having her stop. We can tell when she starts to lag behind and it’s usually between 3-4 miles. I’m not quite sure why she had so much energy today, but she seemed to have a good time. The weather on the Coast the last few days has been pretty nice.

I hope everyone has a great Friday.

Good Morning Team!

Regina - Yes, the phone is fun! It is actually easier to use than my old phone. Still have not had to answer a call, not quite sure how that works yet, I may have to call myself just to try it out. :rotfl:

Dave - I think "determined" may be a better word than "stubborn".

AFM - again did not get out for bike ride, wind at 25-35mph, so did spin bike for an hour. I have not been taking dogs for walks, since we were only going to be home for 5 days before hauling them to the kennel again - did not want to spoil them too much. Will start walks again when we get back from next trip.

Points - No weight loss, I will give myself points for water, vitamins, exercise and fruits and veggies. That is a grand total of 4 points!

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Thanks for the vote of confinence Lynn. I'm doing the Goofy this January strong as a bear (Panda) and nicely muscled instead of pudgy like last January. I have had a good last 8 months of training and I have regained the ground I lost and excited about the new territory that lies ahead. Next year is going to be amazing and the beginning of a new era of competition in the 60+ age group.

This mornings workout was a mile warm up and then a 4 mile training walk in 48:52. Very pleasent workout.

Dave:hippie:

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Good luck Mike and Elizabeth on your races! :)

October

22 - Coastal 5k, Myrtle Beach, SC - Elizabeth
22 - Moraine Hills "Run for the Hills" half marathon - Mike

Hello team!

Mike - Congrats on all your races! Thanks for the race reports.

Tandy - Lots of PD for you! I hope your ankle/calf is feeling better. I'm glad the bully situation was worked out.

Elizabeth - Hope your foot is better. Just reading about it makes me squeamish, I am terrified of spiders.

Vikcy and Dave - Happy belated birthday!

Regina - How do you like your new phone? I've thought about getting a smartphone but it would mean a big jump in our cell phone bill. We both have pretty basic phones and we don't text, so we haven't made the switch yet. Although, I think my phone might be starting to die.

Vicky - Glad your ankle is better.

AFM - We've been keeping up with our training for the most part. We signed up for a gym membership so we'll have access to treadmills if the weather is bad and it also has a track. We're following a Galloway plan, so the track is nice for doing his magic miles.

We went to Palm Springs last weekend. We had a good time. We went to Joshua Tree National park which was interesting because it's in the high desert. We also went hiking in the mountains near Palm Springs which are more Alpine. So, it was neat experiencing 2 different ecosystems. We were both a bit sore afterwards though.

We went apple picking a couple of weekends ago, so I have a bunch of apples I need to do something with. I'm planning to make some applesauce and a pie this weekend. Other plans are to do chores around the house.

Have a good weekend!

Emily

Hi Team,

Lynn~ I can call you if you wish, would you like to hear my Goofy imitation?

Dave~ You will probably end up being the fastest of us all during the Goofy!

Vicky~ Hi!

Elizabeth~ Have fun at the Coastal 5K!

Eva~ It's great that Jordan is pacing with you! On our long runs, we park the car with supplies in it, run a few miles out and back, then run a few miles out in the other direction and back, etc. We use the car as our water stop.

AFM~ I ran a 5k yesterday in 29:10 between the periods of rain. Tomorrows race should be good, its supposed to be sunny and 60 degrees. Picked up my packet today and got a really nice shirt.

-Mike :cool2:

Happy Friday team!

Dave- LOL, I laughed when I read your post. I agree with Lynn though…“determined” is a better word than “stubborn”. Glad you had a great workout today!

Lynn- Haha, I have tested stuff out when I have gotten a new phone to see how it works. I would think answering a call should be the easiest part though. If you can do the rest of it, answering a call will be a piece of cake.:rotfl: How long will you be at the World again?

Elizabeth- Good luck in your 5k tomorrow!!!

Mike- Good luck tomorrow Mike!!! I’m happy you got a nice shirt with your packet. Glad your run went ok!

Emily- I really like the iphone. DH also got the iphone and he loves his. I had a smart phone before so the major jump in price was for DH to go up to a smart phone as well. We like them, but we also use them constantly. DH has been playing Angry Birds on his non stop since he got it. We also text a lot and plan to use them for travel to listen to music, watch movies, play games, etc. so it made sense for us to have them. How long have you had your phone? If you have had it for 2 years, you are probably due for an upgrade with your carrier and should be able to get a new phone. Even if you don’t want a smart phone, you should be able to upgrade to another phone in a price range you feel comfortable with. I would recommend not waiting until it dies though. I knew mine was going and didn’t switch to a new phone and it finally did die on me. Glad you’re keeping up with your training. That is pretty cool your gym has a track. I always liked the gyms with the tracks in them. Hiking sounds like fun! Did you get lots of cool pictures? Good luck with your baking this weekend!

AFM, no weight loss, but no major weight gain. I weighed in at 136.8, which I think is .2 higher than a couple weeks ago? But considering all the eating I did in Idaho, I’m happy with that for now. Now I’m working on getting back into the routine here. So I get 1 point for water, 1 point for vitamins, 1 point for exercise, and 1 point for trying a new food. We tried a new place this week which had a different cole slaw in it I hadn’t had before. And we tried a new chicken marinade which was pretty good.

Did I tell you that the people doing construction around here shut off our water all day earlier this week and didn’t bother giving anyone a heads up that they were shutting the water off? That’s why we ended up trying a new bar & grill earlier this week. Because I had no water to cook dinner with and it was the closest place to our apartment and Kyle’s work so I could feed us both dinner. Lol, that dinner was definitely unhealthy, but it was pretty tasty.

No plans this weekend other than chores, grocery shopping, and runs Sat and Sun. Hope everyone is doing well!

Mike I think Eva will smoke us all, we will be following along in her trail of pixey dust. I'm thinking a 2:40 half and a 5:45 marathon ought to be doable.

Dave:hippie:

Hey guys!! I quick pop-in before I head out for a 9 miler. Later today we will stop in at the town square for a Halloween festival and tomorrow is 18 miles then Boo at the Zoo with ours big crazy family....12 of us going and only 3 kids...lol! Thanks for the well wishes on the LR Regina...Jordan will pace me at the end only. And Dave...doubt I'll smoke Mike..he's fast and will be a three time marathoner by the time we see him next!! I'm hoping for 3 for the half and around 5:30 for the full...but will be just happy to finish!

Happy Weekend to all!!!

Eva I think you are going to do awesome at that Goofy. Mike I believe if he keeps his flame burning is going to be a very good athlete. I'm finally back to my 2007 level so I'm excited about that. I like all adult athletes keep waiting for that magic to happen that transforms you from an athlete to a champion. I wrote something about that I want to dredge back up for you, Mike and the rest of the team:

Standing Outside the Fire
At least once a month I like to listen to the song, "Standing Outside the Fire". It is the theme song for the Special Olympics and is full of meaning for all athletes. Adult athletes especially should listen to it once in a while.

Some of the words will really hit home for anyone who has trained for an athletic event, be it a local 5K walk or a World Championship competition. To be willing to lay it on the line, to give it your all, to give full measure. I have done 5K races and been so spent at the end that I didn't have the strength left to peel my after race banana. Those are the times when regardless of the results, I'm at peace with my effort.

I might have finished in the middle of the pack but I know I gave it my best. When I see the guys who run the race and then run it again since they didn't get enough, I wonder, how fast could they have done it if they had really put their heart into the effort. I think that is what separates the really great athletes from the thousands of others who could be, if they would just push through into that magic effort level of champions.

To have the courage to see what it feels like to push your limits is indeed a glimpse of magic for an athlete, no matter if your a 20 year old collage sprinter or an over 60 race walker. If we train for health and fitness, then a really hard effort isn't really necessary. But if you train to see just what your made of and to learn what you are capable of then you have to push those limits.

Next time you train, go full throttle, hold that effort as long as you can and then hold it a little longer, see what happens. Perhaps you will find yourself in a magical place. When you stop standing outside the fire and dare to burn. It might just change your whole way of thinking about what you can do.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Team!

Eva- Your weekend sounds like a ton of fun! What does the Halloween festival consist of?

Dave- Well said. Thanks for the encouragement to push ourselves beyond our limits. I know I feel the most rewarded and proud when I go above and beyond what I think I can do.

AFM, I ran 4 miles this morning and then went grocery shopping. The 4 miles were not the best. I ran with side stitches the entire time, but it could have been much worse. I was happy to get it done and move on with the day. I’m sure tomorrow’s run will be better. I love this time of year, and I especially love that pumpkin is in season. I love all things pumpkin: pumpkin lattes, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin bread...and the list goes on. So to enjoy this lovely Saturday, I decided to make pumpkin cupcakes. I hadn’t ever made them before and they turned out delicious. I especially liked they were easy to make. Not sure what I will do with the rest of the day though.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!
