Hakuna Matada - Awaiting an Awesome April!

We'll see how it goes. In addition to practicing jumping, I'm going to practice burpees since those seem to be the favored punishment for not being able to complete an obstacle. Just some of the things I will be in for are in this lovely post by the RD about the New York ones:

"Another hilly course lined up for you Spartans at the Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center. This is going to be a super fun, super muddy, and super tough course if you want to go fast. Those who are patient might find the hills more enjoyable. There are some really cool natural features like an entire section of boulders (aka ankle eaters) that you will be traversing off-camber and along the contour line. Tons of parking right down the road which makes us just as excited. This course will have it all… fire, water, gladiators, barbed wire, mud, and free beer of course. I can’t decide which obstacle I like more, the 40 yard uphill barbed wire crawl or the 100 yard uphill/100 yard downhill tire carry?"

And I think fire jumping is an integral part of ALL the Spartan races, so... Not sure "Jump over fire" was on my To-Do-Before-I-Turn... Go ahead and out me Mike. LOL. :goodvibes ...list, but looks like it will be done. Ha!

Hoping to get a run in today...yesterday everything felt fine, but this morning it's all weird-feeling, almost like I overstretched it or ran in my sleep or something bizarre. So we'll see. I'm going to hit the gym and give it a try...if it hurts I'll stop.

Have a good day all!

Good Morning Team!

Beth - Hope you get over your “weird-feeling” and get your run in today!

Regina - Yes, but as Scott keeps correcting me, they are not “races” they are “rides”, I am not really sure of the difference as I think there are prizes for the first finishers in some of them. June 25th is a local ride called “Tour de Prairie”, July 16th we have the “Tour de Steamboat” (CO), August 14th is a local ride - “Ride for Sight”, Aug. 20th we are headed north to Sundance, WY for the MS Ride. On most of the bike rides, there are choices of how far to ride. We are looking at a few others, but these are the ones we have planned on so far. Sounds like you are enjoying Oregon.

Kim - Hope DS and DH enjoy the race. Don’t blame you for opting out, sounds a bit much for me also!

AFM - Got in 4 miles with the dogs, then got out the bike, only made it 4 miles on the bike, my legs hurt sooooo much (probably from the hard ride I did with Scott the day before). Today I will get dogs out before the rain starts, and then get some weights and Pilates in.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hello team! Hope everyone is doing well!

Beth - Fantastic RR and a huge congrats on your PR!! Awesome! I love the photos you posted - especially the one where you're running! That's concentration!! I saw a booth for a Spartan run in my area(ish) - the fire jumping looks really cool! But I really like that they have different categories so you don't have to be ultra competitive. And I have to say that I miss Spring Break (I like that you have it timed down to the exact minute) :)

Emily - I need to spend a day where I can just clean and declutter! How's your ankle doing? I usually use a bit of sports tape and a pair of compression socks to hold my ankle in place.

Kim - Yeah I don't know why she was so eager for us to get going, it's not like the restaurant was packed - especially not the bar anyway. Very nice race schedule!! I'll make sure our team calendar is updated. Did you register for the discount code for the Spartan race on Saturday?

Elizabeth - I like your daughter's way of thinking! The next time I do something major and need a reward, I'm booking a trip to WDW! LOL The W&D race sounds awesome (I'll put you on the calendar as well).

Mike - pixiedust: Hope you're feeling better soon! Aww sorry to hear about the race :( I gotten to the start late once before too. It was traffic that caused me and probably half the other runners to be late as well. Had they packed up the start line by the time you arrived? Glad to see that you were able to salvage the day and still get in a 5K. Are you going to develop the roll of film?

Regina - I can't believe they moved you into a unit that had no doorknob on the front door. I hope if you move, you get a better unit! I'd say to keep your compression socks on after your run - that might help your shins. My new massage therapist also suggested getting two mop buckets - filling one with cool water, the other with warm/hot water and then alternate legs in between the buckets to help get your blood circulation going. Oh! And you should bring your camera when you go running and get shots of the scenery and wildlife!

Dave - How goes the battle? How's the training and working going?

Lynn - Great news on the Hawaii cruise! Have you been to Hawaii before? It's on my to-do list ... I just need more frequentl flier points! LOL!

AFM - The cleaner eating is going well! I'm making most of my meals from scratch. I've even made my own salad dressings, nut butter and crackers. Then feeling ultra confident, I decided to make my own mayonaise. Well... it didn't work out. I was never able to get the oil and egg to combine properly and it also had the consistency of maple syrup. Here I'm thinking they do it on the cooking shows all the time AND without a food processor. On the plus side, I never want to eat mayo again after seeing how much oil is used to make it.

Oh and don't buy baking stuff at the dollar store... I picked up a set of measuring spoons on the weekend because I don't always like to wash as I'm going. Well, this set came with a 1/2 tablespoon. I grabbed it thinking it was a 1/2 teaspoon because ... well I just didn't realize that was an actual measurement. Haven't seen a recipe that called for a 1/2 tablespoon. So I dumped a 1/2 tablespoon of salt into my cookie batter not realizing. Yuck :(

I also went to the podiatrist yesterday to have a corn removed - I'm sure he had a great time since you all know what a big chicken I am! Well, he must have done a really good job because after leaving his office, I had to do an unexpected half mile sprint to catch the bus back home. Why the half mile? The bus has to go on slight detour to get to the station which was the closest stop to me but I knew I wasn't going to make it there in time. The next stop was about a half mile from where I was and if the traffic lights worked in my favour, I'd have a shot. Lots of fun running up an incline, carrying a knapsack and wearing a trench coat LOL! But I made it! I just didn't feel like waiting 20 minutes for the next bus

Well, that's all for now! Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

The guest room is finished except for a couple of night stands and a DVD player.

I'm having a super training week. Today I met my race walk team for a strong 10K and tomorrow I'm doing speed intervals. Friday I'm doing a 10 miler just because I need some distance training.

How is everyone else's training going?

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I have only been to Oahu for 2 days then to the Big Island for a week of Scuba diving. Scott has been there many times dating back to when Hilo had only 1 hotel! It will be my first trip at other islands. Good job on the eating!

Dave - You put a TV in your guest room???!!! WOW! That is like being in an hotel!

Kim - Good luck with the dentist! Because I have such bad teeth - or not actually the teeth - they collect tarter really fast - I am now going in 4 times a year for cleanings (I have to pay for the 2 times that insurance does not cover - but it is worth it to keep my teeth longer). Since I have been doing that, I have not had a cavity, before that, cavities were common!

AFM - Winter has struck again, snow on the ground this morning, high will be maybe 40 degrees! Yesterday did get out for short dog walk and Pilates and weights. Today will be an inside day - dogs will just have to suffer! Forecast is for high wind, rain or snow all day long!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

I'll be thinking about you today. You can think about me on the 26th of this month when I will be going to the dentist to get two teeth prepped for crowns. I'm not a big fan of the dentist either, but my most recent dentist retired and now I have a new one. At least this one is easy on the eyes, if you know what I mean! After I get these new crowns, I'll have so many in my mouth that people will have to curtsy when the see me! ;)

Thanks everyone. Well I survived. Actually the needles and drilling wasn't bad it was the actual filling part that sucked. Word of advice to all like me who avoid the dentist and when I go because I have a underactive thyroid I don't like them doing xrays. Well I finally relented and let them, well I had a nasty cavity in the tooth and under the gum line, not visable, I was not in pain and they would not have found it except for the xrays. My dentist said I was less then a year away from alot of pain and root canal.

I have to get 2 more done in 2 weeks, well not 2 new cavities just 2 old fillings that have cracked and my silver mercury filled fillings will be replaced with white ones....yaaaaa

My dental plan does allow me to go every 3 months due to quick build up of tarter as well. Mike has a pretty good dental plan so I try to take advantage of it as often as possible

Glad it went well! I've had to have 2 root canals due to back molars that broke (nothing I did...just the way they were drilled and filled when I was younger it was really just a matter of time. I don't have an uber high pain tolerance level, but I didn't find them as bad as it seems like most do. They weren't cake-walks, but it wasn't like I had to stay home and couldn't talk for days. IDK if it's because they were further back, or that my dentist kept a nice supply of needles of novacaine on the tray and at the first sign I showed of discomfort he'd give me another shot or some combination. They weren't fun, but they weren't the horror shows I'd thought (other than the primitive things they STILL do like using a blow-torch (small, but still) on part of it which freaked me out).

I just have to make it to 3:00 and then I'm on break!!! (Perhaps a little less if our unit coordinator is feeling generous and lets me leave as soon as my bus has been taken out - Winter Break she let me leave a little early, but I think that was largely because I'd had a craptacular observation and was in tears.) So ready to hit Nashville for a little while!!! My sister will be coming home NEXT Friday for a couple of days, so I'll get to see her, which is good because she just found out her alma mater is closing as of June 30. :sad1: I know how I felt just when the chapel at my seminary burned to the ground...I can't even imagine my two primary alma maters closing (the education one I could take or leave).

Hope everyone has a great day! I'll check in as I can. It's not like internet is spotty...it's more time. Hee!

Good Morning Team!

Beth - Have a great Spring Break!

Mary - I love the comment about crowns, I will have to remember it as I have a mouthful of them also!

Gerry - Congrats on the new bike!

Kim - Glad you survived the dentist!

AFM - Really cold, snowing and VERY windy here yesterday, so I never did get outside, but did get on the spin bike downstairs for an hour. Still windy, but sunny instead of snowing today and supposed to be somewhat warmer.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Friday team! No races on the calendar for the weekend - anyone have big plans?

Kim - I learned that lesson about the dentist the hard way. I skipped going to the dentist for about a year when I was in university and paid for it by getting 4 cavities on my next visit. This is from someone who never had them before either. Now I go every three months too! Glad everything went well and you were able to avoid the root canal :) Did you decide on the Energizer night race?

Beth - I didn't know the dentist had a blow torch! Yikes! I think I would have passed out! You think by now, they would be able to use lasers and other less invasive procedures. Safe travels and enjoy your spring break!

Mary - That is just too cute! The tag fairy should come by and add that to your profile :)

Dave - Good luck with your 10 miler today!

Lynn - Yikes on the snow! At least your pups will enjoy the weather. Here's hoping the snow melts quickly.

AFM - I ran 5K yesterday but boy did I have to push to get my butt out the door. I just wasn't feeling up to it but I got myself out anyway. I figured that I'd better get that run in because we're expecting rain all weekend.

Oh, I signed up for a baking course! It was a bit of a last minute desicion ... it starts tonight! We actually have to get a chef's uniform  I'll post tomorrow on how it goes :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky ~ I know, right? It's not a huge construction-type one...just a little hand-held. And he uses it on the wire-like thing that does the cleaning out or something, not directly into you, thankfully!! But still. My eyes got HUGE when I saw it.

Thanks!! I'm excited!

Hi Team!

Lynn- What are the entry fees like? Do you still get a shirt and/or goody bag? Do you choose how far to ride when you enter or when you arrive before the ride? What are the distances like? Are your legs feeling better today? Haha, I’m sorry to bombard you with questions. :) I’m glad the snow stopped and it will hopefully be warmer today.

Vicky- I can’t believe they moved us into a unit with no doorknob either. Thanks for the advice on keeping the compression socks on. I tried it last night. They’re really comfortable socks in general. I’m very happy with them. I might try the 2 mop buckets eventually. Good idea to bring my camera. I’ll have to try to remember to do that. That’s awesome you’re making most of your meals from scratch. Haha, did you realize you put the wrong amount of salt in the cookies right when you did it, or after they were baked? That is awesome you signed up for a baking course! Looking forward to the details!

Dave- I’m glad the house projects and training are both going well!

Kim- I’m glad you made it through the dentist ok! DH had an awful experience with the dentist last Sept/Oct. He went for his 6 month check up and when they did x-rays they found a cavity and insisted on filling it. Like you, he was in no pain at all before they started working on it. After they filled it, he started feeling pain in that area and it kept progressing over the period of a month until finally he was constantly swishing water in his mouth to try and ease the pain. He had to call the Dr.’s emergency number at like 10pm on a Saturday night and the Dr. prescribed painkillers. I’m not sure what happened, but the painkillers had absolutely no impact on him. So the next day he went in for an emergency session root canal just him and the Dr. LOL, I felt so bad for him! He had to go back again the next week and still has to get a crown put on. It was pretty crazy.

Gerry- Do you have a race picked out already for your bike?

Beth- Enjoy your spring break.

AFM, DH and I went and ran yesterday, but it was so windy outside I really did not want to be there. I could feel the wind physically moving me as I ran and it was very hard to stay in a relaxed position when the wind was constantly hitting me. But, I made it through and was very happy to be finished! I hope it’s not this windy over here all the time. Have a wonderful Friday team!

Thanks everyone for the congrats for DBF. He's super excited.

Vicky: I got the medal. Thanks a bunch! I think DBF was jealous. He wanted to open it at work. lol

Sorry I haven't posted more today. I was going to but I've been sidetracked. Someone from the run Disney fans on FB has been harassing me. I'e reported them to FB and blocked them, but it still irks me. Hopefully she's not dumb enough to try and get around the block.

DBF and I are considering a 10K charity run near us at the end of May. I'm not sure it'll count as proof of time for him but it'd be a good experience so we're seriously considering it.

Tomorrow we're having my parents over for dinner for the first time since I moved out so I'm SUPER nervous but we still haven't figured out what we want to make. :confused3 Decisions, decisions. I've decided I want 1-2 appetizers, a main dish with two side dishes, and 2 desserts.

Well my planned long training walk didn't happen. We are having storms and I caught an interesting 5k between storms. I was walking into an 18 mph wind going out and then the darn wind died some when I turned around to go back so I didn't get the nice push effect. Still a tough workout bucking that wind.

Walking in the wind, windwalker, humm I like that.:rolleyes1

Have an awesome friday y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Hi, Everyone!
Elizabeth- Congrats to DH on his new job!! What will he be doing?

He is a software tester now. He spent 21 years as a software designer so he is looking forward to a change of pace. According to him, the stress is less. :thumbsup2 Glad that you are all moved in now.

Does anyone know anything about the RunDisney announcement this month about a 4th race?

Some are suggesting a princess half at DL. I got tired of following the clues but I'm still interested to hear about the race.

Elizabeth - I like your daughter's way of thinking! The next time I do something major and need a reward, I'm booking a trip to WDW! LOL The W&D race sounds awesome (I'll put you on the calendar as well).
Thanks for adding it; I realized after the Princess that I need a scheduled race on my calendar to keep me training. Anyone know when the price goes up for the Wine and Dine? Anyone else going?

.have to get 2 fillings at the dentist tonight.....:scared1:
Glad you made it through without a root canal. :thumbsup2 Regarding your under active thyroid: are you on medication to treat the symptoms?

Yay! Are you enjoying the new bike so far?

Oh, I signed up for a baking course! It was a bit of a last minute desicion ... it starts tonight! We actually have to get a chef's uniform  I'll post tomorrow on how it goes :)

No big plans for me. Hoping for a long run tomorrow morning but we'll see how the weather is first. As an early birthday present, I'm taking my daughter and several of her friends to see Soul Surfer on Sunday. I hope the move is better than the reviews indicate. The girls are all so anxious to see it.

Can't wait to hear about your baking course. I've always wanted to take one. We have a wonderful French bakery here that offers classes in the spring and fall. I somehow always miss them.

All this talk of food from you and Vicky is making me hungry;) Good luck with the dinner!

Well my planned long training walk didn't happen. We are having storms and I caught an interesting 5k between storms. I was walking into an 18 mph wind going out and then the darn wind died some when I turned around to go back so I didn't get the nice push effect. Still a tough workout bucking that wind.:
I think we are getting those storms here tomorrow. Hope you have sunny skies for your training this weekend.

Tomorrow is sugar-free Saturday for me. Wish me luck. Have a good weekend, everyone!

As long as it's officially timed and the results are posted somewhere online it should count.

Morning everyone!

Just wanted to check in after my travel day yesterday...I made it, but it was an adventure...

Well, I joked about airport pacing...I shouldn't have. When I got to JFK I was scheduled out of Gate 18. Grabbed food, thanked my lucky stars I wasn't going international as wave after wave of high school groups passed me in the international section. Went back to Gate 18 and hung out, then happened to wander over to the desk to discover that our gate had changed to 25 (the more normal one for this flight). So I hiked to that section (it's not as close to 18 as you'd think). Wandered around that section for a while and then learned we had ANOTHER gate change to 30. So we all trooped down to that end of the U that section of the terminal makes. After like 5 minutes, they said "Flight 3052 to Nashville, we are so sorry, but you're now out of Gate 19." Gate 19 is on the OTHER end of the U (as in Gate 30 is at one tip and gate 19 is the other) - and there is no cut through. Finally got to gate 19 and waited and waited, then were put on a BUS to drive to what seemed like Outer Mongolia to get on the plane. I don't even want to know. Had a relatively uneventful flight (I watched "Marathon Challenge" on dvd on my computer) and got to the airport where I found my parents looking at the arrivals board in complete confusion. OUR FLIGHT WAS NOT ON THERE! 2 Delta flights from LaGuardia were listed, but nothing from JFK. Then when they announced what baggage claim we had, the display said "Flight 3052: UNKNOWN". Again, I don't even want to know.

But I'm here.

Got up and got my run in already! 4.17 miles (.03 more than I did on the TM on Thursday!) I have one thing to say... Oh dear sweet baby Jesus in a manger hills are EVIL!!!! And that's what's in my parents' neighborhood. Hills. Lots and lots of hills. And even what looks flat is gradual little slopes. BUT I made it! Ran all my intervals and even finished off my last one on one of the most evil cul-de-sac hills that exists. So I'm darn proud that my distance is pretty much where it is on the treadmill. Because I thought for sure those hills would slow me down and cut into the distance.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

~beth
