Hakuna Kidani, What a Turtleful Phrase!

My oldest is 6 months older than Brooklynn and I was wondering about logistics of school for her with both casts. I'll continue to keep her and Jill in my prayers as they adjust.

And, I'll be sending prayers for your MeMom! What a first day for your challenging new student. I hate that we ask teachers to do more nowadays but we give them less tools and less support. We are so blessed that my DD goes to a relatively trouble free school. And your students are so blessed that you choose to teach in a troubled area despite the challenges. Hang in there! :teacher:

FYI - I started my Pop trip report. If anyone wants to check it out, the link is in my signature (I have to re-figure out how to make it one seamless link, but it's not a high priority right now).

Maybe some of her little boyfriends can push her around in her wheelchair when she goes back to school. ;)
I'm sure they'll all be lining up for the opportunity!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks to everyone for your concern. Jill says she's been relatively pain-free. She has to push her to walk a little, because Brooklynn is a bit hesitant as of yet. Brook wants to go to school, so I guess she will be heading back in a wheel chair in a day or two. That's about all I know. I have only talked to her for a couple of minutes today. Unfortunately, I got a new student today, and he has already caused disruption in three classes, seen the principal twice, and ended up going home early. Pray for me!!! :faint:
Hope Brooklyn is feeling much better today! :goodvibes And prayers for you MeMom that you have a better day with your new student!!!

MeMom, sorry to hear about the trouble with the new student. I certainly hope things were better today.

Glad to hear Brooklynn's recovering well and the surgery went fine. Such a brave girl to get through all of that without many problems. :thumbsup2

Hope all is well with this new student of yours MeMom! Sending some pixie dust and strength your way!

Glad Brooklynn is feeling better and getting a bit of cabin fever already. Hope the transition back to school goes okay.

:faint: Now that is a rough day!!!!! Can we hope it only gets better from here???? :scared:

He did a little better yesterday. He didn't scream ir try to tear anything up. That's a start.

Poor Brooklynn!! Foot surgeries are the WORST!! Praying for a speedy recovery (though it looks like that is underway already!) and no pain. At least her casts are cool colours! :).

Good luck with your new student MeMom. Hopefully things will settle down quickly. Sounds like he/she could certainly learn from your good influence! ;)

I will certainly do what I can do, but it is sure rough on everyone when a student has such extreme issues. I feel sorry for the kids who are being slighted when one kid gets the lion's share of attention.

I have had very little DIS time this week, but I will be there soon! ::yes::

Thanks for the confidence booster. I will give it the 'old college try' as I work with this student.

I will admit that it was slightly better. Thank heavens!

Prayers for you MeMom that your new student doesn't cause you to much trouble.

We made slight progress yesterday. I will hope it continues. :)

MeMom, sorry to hear about the trouble with the new student. I certainly hope things were better today.

Thanks, Kathy. Have a fabulous trip!!! :dance3:

To update everyone on Brooklynn, she went to school, and the teacher said she did very well throughout the day. Jill said all was fine until later in the day when Brooklynn I guess turned a certain way and felt a sudden pain, so that elevated her fear factor a little in trying to walk more. Jill said she is still working to get her to walk more than just a few steps. I'm sure Brooklynn feels off balance and unsure. Hopefully today she won't have any pain that will make her more timid about trying to do more.

Thanks again for all the good thoughts.

I can't do it tonight, but tomorrow I will continue with pictures. There are just 3-4 more to finish out Squid Lips, and then I will start on a new Vero Beach day. :cool2:

Thinking happy thoughts for Brooklynn and her recovery :goodvibes, Jill as she helps Brooklynn through this :goodvibes, and you as your new student hopefully settles in (and calms down) :goodvibes.

Have a great day!

I'm so glad Brooklynn is doing so well. I hope she get used to walking soon. It is amazing how little ones deal with surgeries and such. My daughter had 2 eye surgeries when she was 4 and 5. Once she woke up you never knew anything happened. (Until it was eye drop time!)

Keep that pixie dust coming! pixiedust:

Sending a ton of it your way and to Brooklynn! Keeping you all in my good thoughts and sending them your way. Let's hope the pixie dust will start working its magic for you all soon. :thumbsup2 pixiedust:

It seems my little friend has begun a pattern - not so good, better, not so good - so I am due for better tomorrow, right. :thumbsup2

Jill has a little video of her walking. Her arms are flailing like crazy, but she is walking like a champ with no fear. :)

Thanks, MeMom. I'll be thinking of Brooklyn while I am gone and keeping good thoughts.

I will very much enjoy FB pictures in the days ahead. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Sounds like she's done quite a bit of walking this afternoon. That's a good start.

I lied. I said I wouldn't put up pictures tonight, but I got home a bit earlier than I thought I would, so I am going to finish the night of June 16th - one night before August 16th. I am thinking that being only two months out from a trip report could be some kind of record for us.

Continuing on....

We were at Squid Lips - our group, Anita and Marc, and another family who used to DIS, but has fallen away due to having two little ones.

Our evening entertainment was interesting.

They were sort of like something we may have seen in Mayberry on the town square on a Sunday afternoon seeing a dignitary into town. :upsidedow

We waited for seating for quite a while, since we were a fairly large group. After a while they said they could not seat us together because they had been waiting for another large group to leave, but they were staying around to listen to the entertainment for a while. Having heard the entertainment, I found that pretty funny, but to each his own, right?

Anyway, we had to sit separately but the tables were L-shaped beside each other. Marc, the L family, and Jill, John, and Sophie got the long part of the L. Anita and I sat with Brooklynn and Bella on the open side that looked over the water.

A warning to heed.

I had no plans to get oysters.

I so wish I was sitting beside these girls right now.

I always miss them when we are apart, but with Brooklynn having gone through her 'trauma' this week, it has been harder. The helicopter grandma in me wanted to be there, but Jill and John needed to be allowed to be the grown-ups that they are, and I know she would have let me know if she had needed anything. The timing was not good, either, with school starting. I am thankful that their church friends covered dinner for three nights. The little girls were in school. Jill stayed home with Brooklynn the day after surgery. They had everything they needed. Still, I feel like I should have done something to help, and I really have missed them a lot this week.

The dinner itself was good, or at least I thought so. I had a very large fish sandwich. I'll let the others weigh in on what they had.

The service left much to be desired. The waitress had friends who had come in to eat, and she spent about 90% of her time standing around their table talking. She barely took care of us.

After dinner we went out back for the girls to feed the fish. That was a bit nerve-wracking, as there was very little guard rail to keep the little ones from falling into the water, so we adults had to be right beside them every second.

Manatee information.

Poor fellas. They just float along and can be in all kinds of danger so easily.

I guess we called it a night after we got back to the cottage, because I have no further pictures. I did a horrible job documenting that day. :sad2: I do remember texting with Dream*It, and she told me they had eaten at Shutters at Vero after swimming, and it wasn't great. I will see if she can come over and elaborate.

That was the end of June 16th.

On a non-Disney note, Brooklynn started her week with surgery and will end it with a birthday. Tomorrow she will be seven big wonderful years old. She has been an incredible blessing to my life in so many ways, and I thank God for her every day. She's becoming such an amazing person of her own, not just a little kid any more. I love spending time just talking to her and hearing stories about her friends and things she does. I am incredibly thankful to the good doctors, nurses, and techs who took care of her this week, and I am glad it was the simple procedure it was with no glitches.

Brooklynn, thanks for making me a MeMom. I love this job!

So glad to hear Brooklyn is doing well! :thumbsup2

Hmm - that is some interesting entertainment. Not exactly what I would call dinner music, but I suspect they were decent musicians. At least you know you are going to get good musicians in Florida.

I think manatee are such amazing creatures.

I didn't make it here to add my prayers before Brooklyn's surgery, but I am saying them now. I am glad she came through with no problems and hopefully she will do better with walking each day as she feels more comfortable with the cast on there. I probably won't make it by tomorrow so I will go ahead and say

Happy Birthday Brooklyn!!

Glad to see/hear Brooklyn is doing well and walking!! I was wondering if she would be able to walk with the casts on!!:thumbsup2

:bday:party::jumping1:Hope Brooklyn has a great 7th b'day!!!

Off to bed (have to be up in 5-1/2 hours to get ready for the airport), but wanted to say Happy Birthday, Brooklyn.

A bit early but I have a feeling I may be a bit late if I wait.

party: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROOKLYNN party:

Isn't that so nerve-wracking?? I'm a decent swimmer but Seth being near any water always makes me so nervous. We were swimming with my dad when we were in town the other day. Seth would get out of the pool, and ruuuuuun down to the deep end. I was in the pool so I would be swimming as fast as I could down there to him in case he jumped in (he never did). I knew I'd be there very quickly if he jumped in, but it still scared me. I'm horrible at thinking of the very worse thing that could happen and then I freak out.

Sorry for your cruddy service.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET GIRL!!! :dance3:

You don't go to Squid Lips for the food, it's for what comes after on the back dock. What you don't have any pictures of.
AND yes, they do need a better railing.

My food was just okay this time, a little better the time before, we didn't have any music last year and our service was great.
This year I couldn't believe how poorly we were treated.

Our group was not that big... Just a little big.

That musical group? Oh my goodness......

So glad Brook is on the mend!

Happy Birthday to a very sweet girl!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROOKLYNN!!!
:bday:party::cake:party:
I hope you have a wonderful birthday!! I'll be thinking of you while I'm in Alaska with Mickey - I'll have to tell him about your surgery - he might have a get well wish for you! ;)

Happy happy birthday Brooklynn!! I hope she has a great day.

Good to hear she's on the mend. What a trooper!

Sorry to hear you have an issue with your student - that's frustrating.
