Remember way back when I we did our rooms in Nemo? And made all of those jellyfish? I used those nylon bath sponge thingies that suds you up really good, then I tied interesting pieces of yarn onto them for the tentacles. You can make those for pretty cheap. If you want free or practically free, try crepe paper and construction paper.
I am going for free/practically free. I will probably go with a paper version, because I want them to write facts on the tentacles, I think. The Aquarium Restaurant at Opry Mills had little rubbery jellyfish, so I went and got one.
I really liked the turtle t-shirt!Just don't ask me which one.........
I would love to try a dolphin encounter sometime!
So glad you made it to AKL! Great to be at Disney, and how can you lose with all the animals you can watch right at your resort........
SeaWorld had some cool t-shirts, but had I had any money at the time, I would have gotten a lot of the plastic and/or plush animals and books for my classroom.
Brooklynn would flip out if she did a dolphin encounter. That could be a surprise birthday activity one of these days!

I'm tell you, watching animals from the balcony was totally awesome!
I LOVE those one-bedroom villas at AK/Kidani. We were fortunate to stay in one two years ago for two nights before we moved to OKW. We didn't go to the parks those two days...just the pool and sat on the balcony watching the animals. And I don't have giraffes out my window at home either.
Love the pictures of Sophie crawling on the floor to her momma. She'll walk when she is ready.
Staying at the nicer resorts makes it must less tempting to be up and out the door every morning. Hanging out is nice.

Sophie is pulling up and walking with the help of furniture. She pushes a little stroller across the room. She'll figure it out in a few weeks, but she's going to be one that does things when she decides to do them. Spoiled little girl.

Hey hey hey! We had a 2 bedroom villa in Kidani in July also. Loved it there.
Who knows, maybe Sophie will completely bypass the crawling phase and walk. My niece did exactly that.
The only thing we didn't like is not have Mara closer.
Sophie is crawling all over the place now, and she pulls up when she wants to. She's just on her own timeline.

Love the rooms. Wish my bathroom looked like that.
Aw Sophie will be up and running with her big sisters in no time.
We miss your dissing time also but we know you will not be deserting us. Oct. is a busy month for all you teachers. We will be here.
The bathrooms are so pretty!
Sophie spends a lot of time dodging her sisters right now. They cheer and ballet and flip and flop all over the place. One day, she will take off running out of necessity.

October is super busy. We have a teacher planning day Monday, and then i am teaching intersession Tuesday through Friday. I work Friday night. Bella is coming Saturday morning, and I will bring her back home Monday or Tuesday. I need to spend about a thousand hours on evaluation papers between now and October 28th. My observation is the 29th, and the follow-up is November 1st. After November 1st, I can breathe easier and look forward to our Christmas trip.

This picture made me laugh. I remember that dumb box we carried around with food in it....
I sure wish we were back together at Kidani, or Vero, actually anywhere but 5th grade at the moment.
You will be in Disney World soon.
Congratulations on your newest Disney traveling companion!

Hey, that box o' food was a lifesaver!
I did a jelly fish project with 1st graders at end of last year. Sponge paint inside and outside of Styrofoam or paper bowls. Turn bowl upside down and attach creche paper around outside. Hang them around ceiling with string thru the bowl. The sponge painting was interesting (in blues and greens), but if those 1st graders could do it, so could 2nd graders! And I am not an art person, so if I can do it, anyone can.
I may let them sponge paint before the observation, and during the observation, they can add the tentacles, which will be facts strips.
Aw Anita I am sensing you are not loving 5th grade.
She may not be loving it, but those are some lucky kids to have her, and I'm pretty sure their parents are loving her being in fifth grade.

That just looks like our Kidani room from 3 weeks ago, oh how I miss it! Although you guys were on the better Savannah, we were on Pembe, so no giraffes from the balcony for us. I'm not complaining though, since we paid for a standard view, any animals we got to see from our room were a welcome bonus!
Both of my girls do stuff in their own time - some of it very fast (Charlotte took her first steps at 10 months) and some of it very slow - they are both challenging sleepers. Charlotte will be 2 on Tuesday and only slept through the night 2 days in the month of September. Once Sophie starts walking, Jill will have her hands even more full - if that's even possible.
Seeing pictures makes us happy and homesick all at the same time, doesn't it?
I think Jill would happily trade 'late' walking for Sophie's wonderful sleeping. She goes to bed early and sleeps all night long.
The big girls have to be very careful about what they have out, because Sophie is everywhere now. When she gets a little faster and higher reaching, she will be into all of their things that she can be, of course!

I have to tell you about the jellyfish my dgd made. She is 9 and they were pretty easy and turned out really cute. They used small paper bowls and colored the bottom of the bowl with markers (which ends up being the top). Then they used curling ribbon and taped or glued it to the underside. Some they curled more so they would go up higher and some they just curled a little so they would hang down. They also put one through the top of the bowl to hang it with. I think they knotted it instead of taping so it was a little stronger. They were very cute.
Only 31 days until our trip and I'm finally getting excited, always harder to do when we aren't going with the grandkids. We are talking about maybe a spring break trip, but it wouldn't be Disney. We're thinking about Busch Gardens, Sea World and a spring training game for the Minnesota Twins. We would probably stay on the west coast and I love the ocean. I can deal with it since we are going in November. And anywhere to get away somewhere warm and sunny after our winter would be wonderful!
I like the sound of those jellyfish. I would like to use paper strips, because I want them to write jellyfish facts on them. I have to get my idea solidified so I can get the supplies, but more than that, I have to make an extremely detailed lesson plan, and that part takes hours and hours. I pretty much despise October now because of these evaluation plans.

It has been so long since we have been to Busch Gardens. I hope you get that spring trip. Since I am not getting one, I am going to need to live through everyone else!
Yay, you've arrived at AKL!What a great place; the room looks awesome and how fun to check out all the animals! I bet everyone loved that.
Look at sweet little Sophie! What a doll face, such a cutie.
What are your weekend plans? Anything in particular, or relaxing at home? It's going to be icky here weather-wise, so I should probably stay close to home and relax.
Only 88 days until NYE on the Poly Beach!! Can't wait, very excited to see everyone and ring in 2014 at Disney!
Just a quick non-Disney vent and a heads-up for everyone: I don't know if this is just in my area (Iowa), or anywhere else, but be on the lookout for insurance scams when it comes to senior citizens you know or your family members. Yesterday, a woman showed up to my grandma's house, trying to get her to pay for some new insurance policy. Grandma told her she doesn't sign anything or pay for anything herself, her son takes care of that for her (which is true, my uncle handles her finances) so the woman left but hung around and talked to her for about an hour. She left her card with Grandma; we checked out the name of the alleged business online and no listings; did a reverse search of the phone number she left, and also no dice. My mom called the 800# multiple times between last night and this morning and no answer, rings busy. Luckily Grandma didn't give her any info but this just makes my blood boil. Excuse my french, but there is a special place in he** for people who scam the elderly. How do they sleep at night?!!?
Hope everyone has a good day ~ see you soon
Our Kidani accommodations were wonderful! Thanks to Marc and Anita, we have stayed at some beautiful resorts. How did we get so lucky to have them???
Yesterday, I went to Brooklynn's Grandparents' Day program. Then she and I broke Bella out of school and went to eat lunch at a place called Snappy Tomato. I had never been there. We spent the afternoon drawing and reading and blowing bubbles and just hanging out. This morning, we have to go set up a street fair booth for Jill's school, and then Brooklynn has to cheer. I'm not sure what else is on the agenda. I'll head home this afternoon.
I will be able to think about the Christmas trip again in November - after all of this evaluation junk.

We hear these stories all the time about people trying to scam people, especially the elderly who are sometimes vulnerable. They will get what they deserve one of these days, but it is sad for the people who get taken advantage of.
Y'all truly had an animal themed trip. Brooklynn must have loved it. Animal Kingdom Lodge is one place I really want to stay one day.
She we did have an animal themed trip, and we loved it!
You will love staying at AKL.

I totally understand about having to be in the mood for posting. I am like that with sewing...I have to be in the mood and it has been probably a year since I have been in the mood...
I am mulling a trip for next May...my college age son actually sent me a text (is texed a word??...if not, what is the past tense of text???) asking me to look into cost for him and two band buddies. I told him if they could stand me with them, I could get a discount on the room! LOL! So we will see.
I normally work on Saturday afternoons at the store. Normally I am not there on Sunday's...I try to have one day off from all jobs! I don't have a schedule for that Saturday yet, but I will let you know!
Thanks again for sharing your trip report!
Lynn
I am more likely to come in on Saturdays if Jill is in town. If I am by myself, I am more likely to come in Sunday after church, because I am already part of the way there.
I hope you get that trip with the boys.

Hey there, just catching up. Glad to see your nice room at AKL!
I totally understand the lack of DIS time. I have either been too busy or too tired lately. I really want to do a TR for our Alaska cruise, but I'm afraid it might just have to be a bunch of pictures. We shall see. My photobucket is almost full and I'm too cheap to pay for more, so I am thinking of trying Flickr or something else - anyone have any recommendations?
Hope you have a nice weekend! We have a big event at church with Feed My Starving Children and then my cousin just had her first book published, so I'm going to the launch party. It's pretty exciting!
Fun weekend for you!

I am okay with paying the small fee for Photobucket, because we have gazillions of pictures. I know a lot of people do love Flickr, though. I can see Flickr pictures at school, but not Photobucket pictures.
MeMom, I'm not saying Dollywood is crappy, just not Disney. The kids would have fun there & it is a pretty place. If you visit Dolloywood after 3:00(not sure of time) you get to come back the next day with those tickets. Makes for a nice way to get all the park done.
That would be a good deal for us.

Back in NY. Disney Dream was dreamy! WDW was fun, and after months of planning, finally got to Be Our Guest!!!!
All caught up with the report..........Deb
So glad you had an awesome trip!

Yes I did that this year and when I got to the gate they informed that they actually let people in at 2:30. just FYI
Got a lot done in a day and a half.
All caught up and so glad you made it to AKL.
I bet Sophie will be running once she gets upright.
Sophie will be on the run very soon.
We look forward to giving Dollywood a try. I'll have to see when they open in the spring.
AKL is such a gorgeous resort. Tough to beat giraffes in your yard! So glad you guys got to spend a few days there!
We feel very blessed to have had the experience of having such a great room and view.

Good morning, all! Just wanted to report that Distown added two new babies this week. Anita got a new granddaughter, and tinkgurl had her baby boy. I will let them report the details when they are ready to do so.
I also want to wish Jill a Happy Birthday!

Hope you guys have a fun weekend!
