Hairdryer and Plug Question

I read one thread a while ago and it mentioned needing an extension cord for a hairdryer to be able to be plugged in. Why is that? What type/style of plug do the bathrooms have? I never had this problem when we were on the Magic, but had really short hair so don't think I even probably used the hairdryer come to think of it! However, my hair is much longer now and I would be LOST with out my trusty hairdryer.... can anyone give me a heads up here?

Just got off the Magic. The bathroom plugs say for shavers only, so I didn't try to use my hair dryer there.

Instead, I plugged it into the outlets at the top of the desk. there is more room there anyway to move around, and the mirror is bigger. I had brought an extension cord, but never used it.

Have a great trip!

I used the vanity area as well and did use the extension cord there, mainly to have 4 outlets instead of 2 (the extension cord provided 3). We usually had a battery re-charger going for the camera or video camer plus the hair dryer and my curling iron.

Is it possible to adapt the plug in the bathroom for a hairdryer? I have a pretty small hair dryer and was going to bring it this time b/c I think it will be easier to manuver around my head than the one provided on the ship.

However, I don't want to have to go to the vanity to dry my hair, as DS is usually watching a movie while DH and I get ready. I would rather dry my hair in the bathroom.

Is there a plug converter I could use?

It should be noted that the plug in the bathroom is in the BUILT-IN hair dryer. The plug is low wattage so your dryer will likely pop the built in circuit breaker.
My DD is 13 and has long, thick hair, she found the built in dryer more than powerful enough, and a little too hot actually.
Some feel differently, but I sure don't see why you would need anything more than the built in hair dryer.

My family & I were recently on the Wonder and I brought my hair dryer with us since my DD (6yo) & I have very thick hair. However, I did not bring an extension cord. The plug on my hair dryer has a black box as part of it with a reset button so I was not able to plug it in at the desk because the outlets are 90 degrees flush against the top of the desk so my plug would not fit. If I had brought an extension cord I would have not had a problem. Like others have said, the bathroom outlets are for low wattage use only & hair dryers/curling irons would not work in there. Thus, my daughter & I used the mounted hair dryer and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked on our thick hair. If we cruise again in the future, I will save the suitcase space and leave the hair dryer at home.

I always bring a three-way outlet adapter by GE - it pivots up and down so that you can plug in your large "box" plugs. It's also smaller than an extension cord. :D

I brought my own hair dryer on the Magic, but never used it. I found the built-in one to be powerful enough. And it actually got hotter and hotter the longer it was turned on, to the point that I had to wrap a hand towel around it so I wouldn't burn my hand.

I did try to plug my own hair dryer into the outlet in the bathroom. When I turned it on, nothing happened. It didn't short anything out, but it just wasn't enough power to run the hair dryer. That's when I decided to try the built-in. Next cruise, I won't bother bringing my own.

I did sit at the desk and plug my curling iron in there, though. And like someone else mentioned, there is not a lot of room around the outlets. My curling iron has a small plug and it was fine, but my own hair dryer has one of those big black "box" plugs and it would not have fit. That's where an extension cord that has a small plug end, would've helped. I did have an extension cord with me, but didn't need to use it.

Thanks so much for all your repsonces, you guys are the best!
My hairdryer is the kind that has the black 'box' with the rest buttons on it, so I think I will take Sadiebell's advice and bring an extension cord just to be safe. I will probably not even end up using the darn thing!! Rather have it than not though!!
