My 8 yr old DS wants to grow his hair longer (not superlong, just that now it is really short). I usually cut it every 6-8 wks, pretty short. He has curly hair. I have now waited 9 wks and am wondering about when to cut it again. I don't know if I should wait alot longer, or just take him for haircut and tell them not to cut too much. Does anyone have experience with this?

You can just let it keep growing but it grows faster when the dead ends are cut at a regular pace.

Just tell them to trim the ends and that it's he's letting it grow out.

I have a child who hates getting his hair cut. My DS10 would grow it to his butt if I'd let him just to avoid getting a hair cut. It sounds like what you have is a style issue though. I say let him grow it until he hates it or you can't stand to look at him anymore. Maybe you could take him someplace special to get his next haircut and make a day of it. If they have the haircut books for boys maybe he could look thru those. When DS was younger she always put colored hair gel in his hair after the cut and gave him a sucker. These things seemed to make him happier about the process.
