I don't know what to do. I have had long hair a long time. I like the fact that I can do many things with it. Up with curls, down straight, down curly, french braid, ponytail, messy ponytail. Easy and not time consuming for any of them.

But lately I have been thinking of getting my hair cut short. I found a style that I love:lovestruc. But with a short style, you pretty much have to style it that way, EVERY day. You can't just pull it up in a ponytail if you don't feel like messing with it. That is why I am hesitant. Not sure how much I would miss the versitility of longer hair.

Anyone here take the plunge and get their long locks cut off? Are you glad or did you regret it:confused3?

I know I could cut it and if I didn't like it I could let it grow out. But that is a long and painful process.

Here is a pic of the style. It is actually a wig. I did consider buying it. But then I thought "eewww". People would know it is a wig:crazy2:. You just can't have short hair one day and long the next:hippie:!

That's a really cute harcut.

I went from long to short hair. I liked them both on me, except for when my hair is long, it is BIG...like Bon Jovi in the late 70's/80's BIG. So I always "did" something with it....ponytail, up, half up...whatever. I got tired of it one day and cut it all off.

I will say that for me, having short hair is no problem because I have a "good" head of hair. I literally wash and brush my hair, it dries beautifully with no styling needed...no blow drying, no rollers, no curling irons, no nothing. I am not a "fusser"...don't wear make-up, don't like to spend hours on my hair, usually wear the same jewelry because it has sentimental value. However, IF I had a haircut that required a lot of fussing, I'd probably hate short hair.

The other thing with short hair is it lacks versatility for the most part. It pretty much looks the same every day. Again, not a problem for me, since I tend to be pretty simple, but if you are a person who likes to change up your look, short hair doesn't allow for as many different styles as long hair would.

That is a cute haircut. I went from having long hair to boy-short hair in one cut, and I loved it. So much easier to wash, etc. But, I am not "picky" about my hair..my stylist hates me because I'll go in and tell her a length and to go wild, lol. On the upside, the cut you've picked looks long enough on the sides that you could do it more than one way..the way it's shown, or styling it toward the back, and I'm sure you and your stylist could prob come up with another couple of options as well. Let us know what you decide :)

I'm right there with you!! This cut looks like it would be simple to style. I am not high maintainance, but not sure if I would miss being able to style my hair different ways.

I have a shorter style, but will not go with a total short cut. I have done that before. I cannot keep it up and I like a medium short hair on me (to my shoulders). Not too mention I can put it up if I want so it is a little more versatile.

I finally got rid of my longer hair 3 months ago. My biggest problem is that my hair grows so fast, I would need to get cut every 4 weeks to keep that look.

The medium short gives me some leeway. It can grow out a bit and not look horrid. I am getting my haircut tomorrow.

I love the cut, just keep in mind you will have to get your haircut on a reg. basis to keep your look.:thumbsup2

It is a cute cut! Do you have layers now? If not, I'd probably put a toe in the water and get a shorter cut (but not that short) cut with layers. Try it out gradually.

I went from mid-back length to a very short hair style in about two cuts. Then I lopped all that off into a crop since I got tired of dealing with that. And I also went from blond to red. I have extremely fine, wimpy hair and three cowlicks. So if it gets a little too long, I need to fuss with it. But I can shower and comb this cut and be on my way.

That is a lovely cut you choose, pretty similar to my first really short hair cut.

My attitude is, it will grow back.

But one thing I really miss is when the dbf would brush my long hair.

I went from a long style to short and the short hair required much more work. It needed to be washed and styled every day. Because it was so layered, you couldn't just wake up and go. Never again. It also took FOREVER to grow back. The shortest I would go now is shoulder length. So much more can be done with it now or nothing at all (pull it back in ponytail).

I got 12 inches cut of for Locks of Love last year. I went to one of those bob cuts that are angled and longer in the front. I LOVE it! I loved my long hair too. I can grow mine a few inches and pony tail the back if I want and then cut it again. The cut you chose is really cute, but if you enjoy messing with your hair, you might get tired of it quick. Also, how much will you have to do to get it to look that way? I have natural curl in some parts of my hair but not others. I have to straight iron no matter what length, so shorter meant less work for me. A mid cut first might be a better idea if you are unsure, then you can grow it back quickly or take the plunge. Don't forget you can also get that GNC hair grow vitamin to accelerate the growth if necessary.

Girlfriend, attitudes about wigs have changed a lot! Get an inexpensive wig in the style you want and try it out. You would be surprised at how many people wear wigs these days just for a quick change and fun. If you love your short wig and find maintaining the short style easy, then you can make a decision about your own hair. If you don't love it short you can chunk the wig and not have to spend months waiting on your hair to grow back. My mom has long beautiful grey hair and wears wigs for fun and variety. Give it a try you might like it.

Thanks everyone for your responses!!!!

I do have layers now, just really long ones. Shortest layer is close to my shoulders. My hair is very fine, which should work great in a short, layered style. Only a slight wave to it, very easy to straighten out with a brush and dryer.

The only thing holding me back is the versatility of wearing it many different ways. Not sure if this would be an issue or not.

I love that haircut! Very flattering. Go for it if you don't like it grow it out. I have long hair too and I am ready for a change - I really like that style.:thumbsup2

I have long hair and wear it up almost all the time. Every 2 years I get it chopped off and donate it to Locks Of Love. The thing I love about when my hair is short is that I actually wear it down. I find that when it is long I tend to pull it up into a ponytail every day because that's so easy and cool for the summer weather. So many people comment that they like my hair when I get it cut because it's actually down and not in a pony. I say go for it and if you don't like it then don't do it again. I would go in with the pict and ask if that cut would be a good match with your hair type and facial features before you get it cut. That's why they're the professionals, they know what would look good on you. If you have some length taken off consider donating it, Locks of Love is such a great organization.

I do this quite often, every few years, I go and chop my hair off. Most recently, I went from hair to the middle of my back, to hair right around my ear lobes. It was cute, I liked it, but with my hair, I had to blow dry it every day, or else it just didn't look right, so now I'm growing it out again. I'm sure once it's long, I'll chop it off again. It's only hair, it'll grow back.

I got my hair cut in June to between my ears and shoulders with lots of layers. It's cute, but I don't have much variety with how I can do my hair. Like you, I have had quite long hair for most of my life and can French braid it, twist it, and do tons of things with my own hair. I kind of miss that. I haven't decided whether to cut it again. It's starting to look really shaggy, though, so I must do something!

another non-fusser here, I would never have a style you have to "do". I literally spend about 55 seconds on my hair every day (wet down and a brush). So I would ask your stylist if there is a short cut you could pull off without needing to style it.

See, this cut doesn't look hard or time consuming. I think I could pull it off with a round brush, hairdryer, and a little styling product. I must blowdry my hair or it will lay flat to my head.

My husband  the style. He has asked me several times if I was getting it cut. I said, "what if I don't like it?". He said, "too bad" and laughed! Men:rolleyes1!!!!!!

I think I will go for it, time for a change. Probably in the next 3 weeks or so. There is only one stylist that I trust and that's who will do it.

If I don't chicken out, I post post a pic here when it is done. I also looked into Locks of Love. If the ponytail that is cut off is long enough, I will donate it. It needs to be 10 inches long. That way my "crowning glory" can live on:thumbsup2!!!

Heck, it's just hair, it will grow back. It's just a pain in the **** process!

I would cut it.

I've gone short on a whim more than once. I'm currently at a chin length stacked bob. And I DO NOT OWN A BLOW DRYER! It's just a matter of getting a short hair cut that your hair won't fight. I mean we're talking from shoulder length to a pixie on a Friday afternoon after leaving work.

I can still have the versatility. I can clip it half up and since it's thick I can still get the messy ponytail if I feel like it. Plus, short hair looks chic with headbands. Never underestimate the power of a wide headband for bad hair day.

I think I would miss long hair too much to ever cut it that short. Yes, I know it grows back, but it takes awhile to grow back. I like the wig, but I don't think the style would be for me.

That is a really cute hairstyle!

I am in the 'go for it' you only live once, and if you want, you can always grow it out....

I just had one thing that hit me.
Looking at the style, I think the front is awesome!!! However, I would have the lowest layers around the back to be just a bit more longer and pixie and feminine. Same style, exactly as shown, except for that. Otherwise, for me, it would seem almost like a guys hair when see from the back. I might try it that way, and then you could always go to the close cut neckline if you decide you like that better.

Sharon Osbourne's hair is coming to mind.

edited to add: It just hit me, your name is Sharon!
