Hairbraiding on board Magic

Can someone please tell me about the hairbraiding on board the Magic, where and how do I make a reservations for my daughter? On our last 2 cruises we waited until Castaway Cay to do this and would love to have her do it earlier in the
cruise so she can enjoy it the whole trip. Plus she won't spend so much time doing her hair every day!!

There will be a signup time in the Navigator. As I recall, it is after the lifeboat drill. They do the braiding during the at-sea periods.

Our DD had hers done on Monday afternoon and it looked great the rest of the trip.

For all of you out there who have had the braids before.........

How long do they last.... look good??????

Has anyone gotten them done before leaving and had them last through the cruise???????

My DD10 wants he hair done in the headband style and we found we can get this done much cheaper at home than if we wait till the cruise. My concern is that she will end up with messy looking braids by the time we hit the ship. We are leaving the thursday before the sail date and will be driving.

Both my DD's had it done on the ship on Monday. They also had the headband type and my oldest left hers in for a little over a week and youngest left hers in almost 2 weeks. They still looked good at 2 weeks. I think people have problems with them looking messy if the braids are to loose, so might sure the person doing it for you knows that you would like it to last for over a week. I would not recommend more than 2 weeks bucause with my DD I noticed that as we washed and brushed her hair after we took out the braids she lost a lot of hair. After a long period, I think it may start to break where they put in the rubber bands. Make sure you put suntan loation on her head where the briads are. I used the spray kind and it worked great.

How much did they charge on ship to do the headband braiding? The last quote I got was a while back and from the islands and I found I could get it done at home about $15 cheaper........
The hair loss??....... are you saying it comes out at the root or where the bands hold it? Oh well, either way she coud stand to thin it out a bit.....

It was not cheap and I think it cost $32 for one and $40 for the other. This was with two beads on each braid. I don't really know if the beads are extra or not, but they probably are. We did not really check into price to much because it was something we were going to do anyways.

I don't really know if the hair came out at the roots or broke off where the bands had been. I just know that as I brushed her hair there was a lot of hair in the brush. After the first day this did not happen again and you really couldn't tell.

You can see my daughter's hair with beads below.
It was $34.00 plus tip.
They stayed in for 10 days after. Bit of hair came when they took them out out by my wife and daughter did the conditioning thing.. Stayed away while they were doing that.
Knew I wasn't going to be much help!!

My daughter had her hair braided on Princess's private island last summer. She had her whole head done (with beads) for $25.00. It took them a little over 2 hours. It lasted a month, and there wasn't a problem when she took it out.

Really dumb braiding question here. How do you wash your hair without messing up the braids? My daughter's hair doesn't hold braids well at all.

You just wash it like normal but I was careful around the braids. I was concerned about the braids in my girls hair also because they both have really fine, fly away hair that I can never do much with. The braids stayed in their hair just fine. I think that because they are so tight they tend to stay better than normal braids. This is just a guess though, because I am not a hair person. The funniest thing about my youngest DD was that even though we had washed her hair several times, a week after the cruise the braids still smelled like suntan loation.

OK, here's another dumb question. How hard is it to get them out? Is there alot of pulling?

Had braids done in Mazatlan once and here are some hints:

Wash your hair right before getting the braids done and use a really good leave in conditioner (do not dry your hair) - this will help with any breakage and make for better braids.

If you don't have spray on sunblock, use a q-tip dipped in sunscreen.

Taking out the braids takes time and patience. start with the bottom of the braid (and the head) and use one of those combs with the sharp pointed handle and work your way to the top.

For washing the braids, I found it best to gently massage in the shampoo - you will not get your hair completely clean. If you have fine hair, I recommend gently rubbing in a leave in conditioner into the braids each time they are washed.

I did have breakage (very fine easily damaged hair) but it was worth it!!! Having braids was a blast.

Thanks for the washing and care instructions. My dd isn't sure if she wants to get braids or not, but I want to be prepared.
