While I have been to Disney several times, each time I have curly hair, and never had a problem.

I now have straight hair that flips up in the back and sides - I need to find something that will last in the Florida sun and through the wind blown rides. Does anyone have any suggestions? I just don't think my regular hairspray is going to cut it - and it looks just plain awful  when left alone, so I would like to atleast do something with it on our trip.

Any advice you have would be wonderful!!!

Thanks!

You're on vacation- no one will know who you are- it will be hot- you may want to wear a hat to keep cool and the humidity will wreck anything you try.

You can always buy soem Mickey ears and everyone will think you are perfectly normal!:p

I always try to put my hair up in some way (clip, ponytail, etc). I have curly hair but it turns to big frizz in the heat and humidity. Putting it up is usually the best option. My hair is much shorter than usual, but somehow I am still going to put it up. It is cooler and stays more "put".

Jeleebeene, I think you'll probably end up with curly hair this trip too! Florida heat and humidity does not equal good hair days....at least not in my experience. Tie it up or pull it back, as bartleby1 suggests, and have fun on your trip! :)

Here in Atlanta, we have similar humidity problems. After moving here from the west coast, I have finally found some good hair products that work pretty well in the humidity to keep your hair straight!

There is a leave-in conditioner by Llanza. You put it in after your shower, while your hair is wet. It smells good, and does not make your hair sticky. You do have to buy this at a salon or beauty supply store, like a Trade Secret, but it works great! In the summer months, I use this, plus a leave-in conditioner by Infusium, that you can apply and re-apply to dry hair. The re-apply part is important! You can buy this one at any drugstore or grocery store, and you could transfer some very easily to a travel sized bottle that you could carry in your purse.

Nothing works perfectly in the humidity, but I found these products to really help!

Thank you so much! I just dread going without doing something to my hair!!! It is too short for me to put up, so maybe I will use some clips or something to keep it in tact...maybe going curly again will solve all of my problems ;)

Thank you again!!! :wave2:

My hair is long and straight and always ends up in nice, soft curls when we go down. It's styles nice and is easier to work with down there as opposed to up here.

Maybe that's a hint that I need to move closer to the mouse.

I have had to live with Fla humidity my whole life.(plus side to living here isproximity to WDW) but the best advice I could give has been given. Wear a hat and have fun.:D

I don't like to wear hats because on some of the fast rides you need to take them off and then my "helmet hair" is less than desirable. What I like is a visor that goes on and stays on. I always take some from our other travel spots...it's fun to see different logos as you walk around the Parks. I usually take 1 from our Dollywood trips and there's always a fellow Dolly-fan who notices.
I totally agree with the response that said you're on vacation so don't worry about the style. I usually get a cut the first of the week we leave, do a little highlighting, and don't even bring my curling wand along. It's a little gel and a quick blow-dry (using the WDW dryer) and then I'm off. Packing all the hair equipment would take up valuable souvenier space!!

Hi,

Im 17 with really long hair and complately self-conscious about it staying straight and tidy but after our first WDW trip I realised that hair just doesnt matter at all. Its so hot that its much more comfortable to wear it in a pony so that it isnt in your way! You can always wear it down at night when its a bit cooler.

I second the mouse ears!!!!!::MinnieMo

I have a very short style that doesn't require Curling just alot of blow drying it is very thick when we went to Disney in April it just got to the point it was really dry for some reseaon but i was still able to style it the same just have to use double the hair spray to stay put. I do bring all my hair product no mattter how heavy they are but no make up it just melts in that Florida Sun. KELLY

I always sport my disney ball hat with a ponytail coming out the back. I figure I on vacation. I'll fix it more in the evenings when we go out but it's definitely in a ponytail for the parks!

I ALWAYS buy myself a new WDW hat the first day in the parks! (wouldn't say I've been doing it long, but I still have the one from 1982 from EPCOT Center!:p ). Not only does it keep your hair looking presentable, it makes a good souvenior! :hyper:

As far as the fast rides go....keep the hat on til the ride 'takes off'. Take it off your head then slip in back on as the ride slows down!! Or, if you like, just hang on to it!! :teeth: I think the only rides I had to take it off on were ToT, Space Mountain and RnR!:Pinkbounc

I'm a guy, so I don't deal much with haircare products .... one of my (female) friends used elmer's glue to hold her hair when she ran out of hair gel.

NHL Referee Kerry Fraser is one of the last helmetless refs in the league. He also has a hairdo that is always perfectly in place (to the point where he even jokes about it ... once he got cut by a stick to the head, and joked "this is odd, usually the hair spray stops the stick from going in" ... however, a google search yielded no answers to the question of which hair spray he uses)

I have a similar situation...I absolutely HATE hats, they never fit right and can't go anywhere without doing my hair. (I know no one knows me, but I do it for ME.) I recommend using mousse or a flexible hold gel before styling. I also have a small, folding hairbrush that fits right into my camera bag so I can brush the tangles out often. If you don't have a small brush, carry a clip - you can put your hair up when you want and also brush your hair with the teeth.

I have curly hair up to my shoulders, when i go to florida I take with me my Tony Pony hair clip and Presto!! a very nice hair style with no fuss...

I have short cut curly hair now which is normally easy to deal with ..but when it gets in the humidity in Fla and the mist of water from the rides..it can look.....TERRIBLE!!! Yes I know, I do not know those folks and will never see them again, but I do not want to look weird either.

I have two solutions and both work fine.....When we go in cooler weather in December I style my hair as normal in the morning and then use what my DH calls CEMENT HAIRSPRAY on it..I use Aqua Net Super Hold Number 3 either scented or unscented both work the same. It holds your hair in place nice, it is very strong and will resist the wind on the rides and even seems to resist the water splashes on Splash Mtn. It is much stiffer than I like or normally use but it saves me from having what we call THEME PARK HAIR. At night when we get back to the hotel I wash my hair right away as it does feel very stiff but it works fine..

Other solution is that I wear my hat all day..a baseball hat and do not worry about it. Under my hat my hair stays ok and I just comb it later when I do take the hat off and I just have to grin and bear it on rides i have to take it off and hope you are not all looking at me hair...

I wash my hair the day I leave for WDW. I don't have to wash it again until I get back, which is usually 3-4 days. I use Paul Mitchell Hair Spray, works great.;)

I just got my pre-Disney cut. Short, short, short. Kind of a razor cut. I use KMS HairPlay spray or CatsWalk Frisky, and scooch it with my fingers when wet. I didn't mean to get it cut so short so soon, but when I broke my arm in April, I could no longer style it, so it had to be a wash and go with one hand. I don't know if I can go back... I've really gotten used to freeing up the blow-dry/curl time in the morning!!!!
