Well... as you can tell from my tag, I have very, very, naturally curly hair. I straighten it all the time (not chemically but with a flat iron). I recently have considered letting it go back to curly  but I have to get the patience to let it grow out. If that doesn't work, I am considering permanently (well, semi permanent) straightening it with "thermo conditioning"??? Has anyone had this done and what were your experiences?

Haven't done it myself, Kim, but I think I'm right in thinking that it's the same process as having your hair permed which breaks down the hair shaft and doesn't really do it a lot of good.

My hair is permed and I'm using straightening irons on it while it grows out. I've discovered these superb ceramic ones which are far superior to anything else I've tried and I've got it off to a fine art now - 10 minutes tops. And I've got a lot of hair!

Doesn't adamak do that thermal conditioning thing?

I did it. It was the best thing I ever did. I now can wash and go and its all straight. Stays shiny all the time. I really love it.

kinlaw...

Do you mind if I ask how much it cost you? Did you do much research first - it sounds like a pretty intense treatment.

Thanks!!

Yes! I did it. And it's the BEST thing ever done for myself. It costs me about $250 + tips, which is relatively cheap for Thermal Reconditioning. Average is about $500+.

I did it last Thanksgiving, and it's still straight. I rolled out of my bed, and it's straight. I didn't have to blow dry or anything. Saved sooooo much time. My hair was wavey before, and now it's so much eaiser to manage. Though it started to grow out.

Please make sure you research a lot before doing it. There are lots of inexperience stylists out there who could fried your hair and ruin everything.

You can also PM me. :)

Thankfully I am blessed with a best friend who is also a stylist. He did the research for me. They charge from $350-500 in his salon depending on the hair (length, course, etc.) I definately would say go to someone who has already done it and can show you that!

oh my you all must have heard my dd cries all the way from CA....

I HATE MY HAIR... I HATE MY HAIR....
She is bi racial.. black/white... just below shoulder length... brown hair with red highlights.. She has been told many times "People Pay big bucks to get hair like this".. but to no avail
There is ALOT of thick hair which is mixed in texture.. underneath is fuzzy wuzzy then as you go up the scalp the curl begins to relax at her crown it is almost straight. She is 13 and just begining to really take care of herself. I am concerned about paying over $350 for her hair to be straightened.... what happenes to the ROOTS?? Dont they come back natural curly and screw up the style of the straightened hair? How often would the hairstyle need to be maintained at the salon?

I have reallllllly stick straight hair.. so I don't know what she is going thru.. thank you for your help.
Joan

I haven't had it done, but I want to when I have the money. It looks sooooooo worth it to me. I also have naturally curly and THICK hair. It's yucky.

http://www.thermalreconditioning.com/ has some before and after pictures and a list of where you can go in your area to have it done.

Thanks for all the info!!!!

Mamajoan - I have done some research and from what I understand, you go in for occassional touch ups on the roots every six months or so.
