Hair Straightening Iron Suggestions?

Okay, DD needs a new straightener. We bought a remington for about $30 a couple of years ago, and it worked pretty well, but it has died now. I want to buy her a pretty good one, but just really can't spend $100 right now.

Any suggestions?

How about the wet to striaght ones? Do they kill your hair?

I don't use one personally, but DD19 has for years. I bought this one http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod880196 a few years ago and it's still working great. They change the pretty design often but the flat iron is the same.

I bought one that they demo in the local malls for 100.00 that I really like. They now have them at Marshalls an TJ MAXX for 30.00. The brand is Cortex. My aunt bought one when her Chi died and for the 70.00 savings she is happy with it too!

We use these in the salon for Keratin Treatments, We have had them over a year and use them every day all day - they still work terrific.
They heat up fast, straighten most hair in one swipe, so you have less heat damage. I highly recommend this iron.

A chi is definitely the way to go, I'm on my second, have very curly hair which I can get pin straight and I've never hurt it.

I have a ghd and I love it but they are pricey. Go to overstock they have chi for around $60. Do not buy this brand on ebay or amazon since most of the products there are not real and is not what you want to be using on your hair.

I just bought a chi the other day from folica.com and it came with free shipping, case and a mini iron for $89.99. Not a bad deal. No just hoping I get it today so I can test it out.

As others said don't buy from amazon, it will void the warranty. Not sure about other sites though... I just know they need to be an authorized chi dealer.

Chi is worth the investment. My first just started burning out after 3 years of use. My grandmother found a replacement for me at a JCP salon sale for $60. I would NOT recommend anything 'wet to straight' (had one, it was my first straightener, compliments of DH)... it WILL kill your hair. They sap any and all moisture from your hair, not to mention they take twice as long as drying and ironing.

Well, I would think that about the wet to dry too, but some of the info I have read says that if you dry w a blow dryer then use a flat iron you are damaging your hair twice. Once by drying and once by ironing. That kind of makes sense too. Now I don't know what to think!

Always use a heat protecting serum or spray. But the steaming of the strands that happens with the w2s irons turns your hair to hay FAST. I have very oily hair and a few days using the w2s made it look and feel like straw. Took a lot of time to undo the damage.

What's the difference between all the different chi irons? I looked on overstock and there are a lot of different ones and I don't know if one is better than the other???

My first was the Original, my new one is the same thing but with a purple zebra print. The colored/printed ones are just limited editions for the most part. The micro is tiny and takes longer to use as it is half the size of the other so you can do only half the hair at a time. I haven't seen the digital in person, but have heard that the tourmaline doesn't work quite as well as the Original.

CHI- We got a great price at Costco last year when I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. I think it was $59- I was worried that it was defective or a knock off one but it is great and gets my daughter's very curly, frizzy and thick hair straight as can be!!

CHI irons are garbage. They're made in Korea, which says a lot (land o' shoddy manufacturing). The quality control there is horrendous...

I had two CHI irons, both of which broke after about a year. On one, the "on off" switch just fell off. On the second, it just stopped turning on altogether.

I switched to a Remington from Target that is going on two years now. It's been dropped numerous times and is still working perfectly. It was one of the more expensive models (around $60), but it's been a better flatiron overall than both the CHI I owned previously. I like the ability to control the temperature digitally, as well as the "cool touch" exterior.

That's surprising. My grandmother has purchased about 18 Chi irons in the last 5 years or so (she gives them to her 6 granddaughters) and each has lasted a good 2-3 years, daily use, with no problems whatsoever.

My daughter has a Sedu that we got her from Folica.com It was over 100. I think it was 129 but it is really good Plus they warranty this for 2 full years. She uses it probably 4 to 5 days a week and has never had damaged hair at all.
