Hair Straighteners/Flat Irons

I would never spend less than $70 on a straightener. It's so worth the money to buy a higher end model rather than some crappy $30 model.

I just bought a Chi for my DD a few weeks ago. I'll admit it: it's about 100 times better than the cheap flat iron she had before. It straightens better, the style lasts longer without frizzing, her hair is shinier than ever, and it seems to be less damaging. Definitely worth the money, I just wish I'd bought a Chi in the first place and not wasted money on the cheap iron.

Well, the Chi is too expensive for me. I have a Revlon Wet2Dry ceramic flat straightener which I LOVE.

I like it because it can be used on wet and humid hair, which I need to do to get good results. I use Frizz Ease Wind-Down cream on my damp hair, dry it with the flat iron and my hair stays straight and shiny until I wash it again even in humid weather!

When I bought it a few years ago it only cost $27.00 IIRC.

I don't think a flat iron that can be only used on dry hair would work as well for me.

I have 2 of them. A CHI (it is great, I recommend it highly) and a Babyliss(which is also good but probably not as good as the CHI.) I would not hesitate to buy another Babyliss one though. It works even on the thickest hair I do.

Another vote for the CHI. I swore I would not spend that kind of money on a straightener but after seeng the result on her hair I bought her one off eBay for ~$70. I admit that I have used it myself, and then used her old cheap Revlon and Conair ones and I wish that I had bought two CHI's!

I had one of the Wet to Dry straighteners also. While it worked the best of the cheap flat irons I had, it is no where as good as the CHI (IMO of course;) )

But can you use it on wet/damp hair? That's my second biggest issue (first being the price).

And how long does it last (eta, the results, not the iron)? can you go to sleep and wake up the next day with your hair still straight?

While I have never tried using my Chi on wet hair, I do sometimes use it on slightly damp. And my hair is still straight until I get it wet again. Occasionally I will need a touch up due to the FL humidity, but I usually go two or three days between shampooing and my hair is still straight.

I had a Chi, loved it, broke right after the warrenty went out!!! I then bought an Ion from Sally's. I have to admit, I definitely prefer the Ion. I spent about $30 less than the Chi, and that included the 3 year extended warrenty!!

That sounds great. I just can't imagine it giving me a good (lasting) result using it on 100% dry hair. I've always heard nothing but rave reviews about the Chi, and I would never argue that the Revlon is on the same league.

I hope to buy one some day, meanwhile I think the Wet2Dry is an acceptable alternative.

Thanks for the review!

I have a Babyliss also, and LOVE IT. I have thick, curly hair, and use it every day to straighten it. I've had it for 4 years with no problems.

I've never used either one on wet hair so I can't really compare the two in that way. I find with my hair I need to dry it thoroughly before I flat iron it to get best results. When I'm rushed and I dry it most of the way but not completely, then try to flat iron, it it doesn't come out as good as when I dry it all the way with the hair dryer first. I might just try it tomorrow on wet hair just to see though.

If the weather isn't too humid, my hair will stay flat the next day although I will wash every day even if it still looks good ~ I feel like it gets too sweaty when I work out in the AM

Just be careful before using it on wet hair, if the iron's instructions don't specifically say that it's safe to use it that way. Conservative Hippie said she used it on slightly damp hair.

I don't know what could happen, but I bet it's something bad!

Yeah, I don't think you are supposed to use the Chi on wet hair. I never blow dry my hair, just air dry, so sometimes it will still be slightly damp on the underside when I straighten it. I think it looks better if I wait until my hair is 100% dry, though.

Another vote for Chi! I love mine and I use it everyday. What ever brand you get make sure it's ceramic. Makes a huge difference. My SIL got me hooked and I love it. I have very thick, wavy curly hair. I use a little serum and my flat iron every day and never get frizzy. Worth every penny!
