Is there an age limit for the ships hair salon? I would love to get my daughters hair done one night for dinner...possibly french-braided? (She is 11)
And also would I need an appointment or is it just walk-in ?
Thank You

Kathy

From reading other posts - the salon does follow an 18+ age limit.

Up on deck nine, there are women who do the hair beading/braiding for the girls. I never did figure out when they started making appointments, or what their hours where. We were walking past them one day, and asked if there were any more openings - and we got the last one. My DD thought they were pretty reasonably priced (actually it was a better deal on the ship than on Nassau for what she wanted)

I was not impressed with the service at the Hair Salon (Wonder). The worst part was the fact that she did NOT brush off the "little hair clippings" from my face and I walked around the ship looking like a miniature Cousin Itt. The reason I didn't notice them was because I didn't have my glasses on when she showed me the cut in the mirror.

I can do almost anything with her hair but an updo or french braid...which I think makes her look so nice! :) Darn!

Thanks anyways ladies! :wave2:

Of course, I see the positive side of this - I still had hair on my head. I could have come out of there looking like Uncle Fester.

Hugs,
Rae

There is normally an 18 year old minimum for all spa services (including hair). However, there are teen specials on the land days (when they are not so busy), and there are the braiding ladies on the pool deck who are not considered part of the spa.

:wave2: Were on deck 9 do they do the beading? Is this something new? On the Wonder in 2001 I don;t remember this? Thanks.:boat:

Does anybody remember what the cost was for hair braiding?

...on what you are specifically having done. My daughter asked them what she could have done for $20. The woman told her that she could have 10 braids done, each braid was about 4 inches long.

They have many pictures to look through to give you ideas. There are several factors that impact the cost - length of the braid and how many braids you want done are the two biggest factors that impact the total cost.

if you want to get a normal french-braid done? You know one big braid down the middle ...my daughters hair is past shoulder length...

If you are interested in the hair braiding on either ship, they will advertise the time for reservations in the navigators.

I believe it is usually advertised in the 1st one where they have the merchandise shops hours. It appears that sign ups are usually the first night at 5:30pm outside of the shops.

My niece had the crown done for $2 a braid. They had appointments for the very first night around 10. It was a little late, but it was nice because it was done early and she could enjoy it the entire trip. Also, we didn't have any problems in Nassau with the hair braiders.:)

I also believe that they will advertise the sign ups for CC later in the week. This separate sign up may only be on the Magic. I'm not sure. If you are on the Wonder and want it done on CC, ask at the first sign up. They may combine the sign ups due to the length of the trip.

They did a great job and my niece had the braids in for at least 2 weeks. She used conditioner to soften the braids when she took them out and had no problem with pulling or hair falling out.

Sorry Chatty Kathy, I don't have any info on regular french braids.
Perhaps there is someone at home that could show you. My mom show my brother so that he could do my sister in laws. Oh to be a fly on the wall!:teeth:

Considering the cost of the on ship hair salon, maybe you could get your regular beautician to show you how to do an upsweep yourself for a fraction of the ship's cost.

My daughter had lovely long hair and I was/am all thumbs at braiding, but it was easy to put it up in a topknot and put a little "cap" on it - very formal looking and easy to do.

Good thought Rae! I may look into that...although when we get to the boat and SHE sees the other braids in peoples hair, that is what she is going to want! LOL You know how KIDS are!! Her idea of an updo and my idea of an updo are have completely different definations. I need to learn to do the french braid myself.
I've let her get those whirly braids done before that hang all around and i've paid 'per braid'
 Lotsa bucks there!
musicgirl-$2 a braid isn't bad at all, they feel special when they get to get that done when they're away! :)
chl2-did the $20. do your daughters whole head, what is the length of her hair?

Oh well, I'll have to call a few salons around here this week, thanks again !! have a good one!:wave2:
