Hey everybody -- I need some expert advice here! My wedding is coming up in two weeks, and this humidity is killing my hair! I just moved from Canada to Tampa. I never had any problem with my hair back home, but it seems like no matter what shampoo and conditioner I use (currently Suave extra moisture with Sunsilk's DeFrizz for conditioner) my hair wants to go nuts -- it's especially bad because mine is curly! I have About Face doing my hair and makeup on the big day so Im sure they'll know what to do, but any suggestions until then? I don't wanna look like a mad scientist! :scared1:

Have you tried Garnier Fructis? I do not have curly hair, but that stuff really conditions and makes my hair heavy. I only use it once or twice a week (I use Herbal Essences on the other days) to counteract the damage chlorine does to my hair. I think in your situation you should try the Sleek & Shine. They also have a serum that might help.

If that doesn't work, I would head to Target and Walmart and pick up every travel size shampoo they have. That way you can try a bunch of them without spending a bundle.

I also have curly, frizzy hair! The weird thing is, when I was in Florida it wouldn't take curl when I had my hair & makeup trial!

See if you can find a shampoo that uses sodium laureth sulfate instead of sodium lauryl sulfate. (Not because of the Internet hoax that it causes cancer, just because the "lauryl" kind is harsher on your hair). This will probably mean spending money for salon-quality shampoo, but it's worth it (and you can usually get it cheaper on eBay). Drugstore shampoos contain lots of harsh detergents like sodium lauryl sulfate to make them foam more.

I like the Phyto line, which is plant-based. It has some sodium laureth sulfate, but not as much as drugstore shampoo. Phyto also makes this amazing anti-frizz stuff called Phytodéfrisant that you put in before you style. I also like the Jonathan line of anti-frizz products (spendy, but cheaper on eBay and during Victoria's Secret/Bath & Bodyworks clearance sales!)

One thing a lot of people swear by is John Frieda's Frizz Ease, which you can get at the drugstore. I found it made my hair static-y, but it works for others! :thumbsup2

Garnier Fructis has a silicone product in a little round pump bottle that is fantastic! It is similar to Redken Glass (which is also wonderful!) but quite a bit cheaper. Just a couple of drops smoothed through dry hair is great for frizz control!

Ive used KMS Curl and it has helped me a lot. You can't get it in groshery stores, but buiety supply stores should have it.

i'm a big fan of frederic fekkai...i use most of his products, i have one oil for my hair, i think it's by san sebastian. i also use bumble and bumble that i get at my salon! i remember living in orlando, thinking that humidity could absolutely not get any worse, then i moved to texas, where it is 100 times worse...so i feel your pain with the hair frizz...good luck!

Thanks a ton guys. I especially appreciate the suggestion of buying the trial size bottles at Target. I think I'll give Garnier and maybe John Frieda a try for now and see what helps. I thank you, and my hair thanks you. Really! :)

Thats funny because I just moved to NY and cannot figure out how to put volume back into my hair after moving out of the humidity.

I have curly hair. Usually, I tamed it with my chi iron, but there are some things that worked for me down there. Use any conditioner and/ or shampoo with ingredients that end in 'one.' Anything that does has silicone in it and will stick to your hair. I used Pantene and some others I got from a salon. I used to use gel, nothing works better- not those serums or mouse, the gel is heavy enough to maintain control over the entire mess- I used to use LA Looks extra strength. It was light enough so that my hair didn't glue itself to my head, but it was strong enough to manage everything. Run it through your hair when its all wet, not dripping wet, but more than damp. When it dries, be it naturally or with a blow dryer, all those curls will look tamed and beautiful.

Hope this helps!

i have the same problem with my hair when i go up north to visit my family...my hair loses all volume, and it's really thin, so it tends to look stringy!!! to combat this hair problem, i use those velcro rollers, i wash my hair, put in product (mousse, gel, firming cream etc)then i dry it like normal, then i section it and put the rollers in. i hairspray it and leave the rollers in for 20+ minutes...too much work, but it's worth it...
