In the past I have read negative comments about the hair dryers on board the Fantasy but not recently. Did they replace them or was it the problem that people were not plugging them in to the proper outlet?

I had thought that perhaps I should buy my own travel size dryer to bring with me but I'm not sure that I need to now.

Thank you for any advice you can give me.

I don't use the hair dryer on the cruise ships, but I've always read that the ones on the Dream/Fantasy are better than the ones on the Magic/Wonder.

The only problems I've read about the Fantasy/Dream ones were when people were not using the proper outlet, as you noted.

We were on the Fantasy in Sept. The hair dryer was fair at best. I cannot comment on the classic ships.

I didn't have any trouble with the dryers on the Fantasy, it worked just like my hair dryer at home, even had the same number of fan speeds and heat settings. It does have a special outlet and can only be used at the desk. The hair dryer is a real one, not the hotel kind that are attached to the wall. There are some attachments too. It may not be as powerful as some that people have at home but its alot more powerful then the hotel style.

I have short fine hair BTW.

Thanks everyone for their views on the hair dryer. I have short hair as well so maybe I will be fine with the one supplied. My sister has long hair though so perhaps she better bring hers...since we have connecting rooms, I guess I can always run and grab hers if I do run into problems.

Thanks again for your help! :thumbsup2

I'm picky about hair dryers (long , curly hair) and normally bring my own. The dryers on the Fantasy & Dream are GREAT! You only need to plug it into the proper plug. The dryers on the classics.... Yuck! ;)

The hair dryers on the Fantasy/Dream are great AS LONG AS you plug them into the correct outlet. The outlet is located at the desk area and is marked. If you do not plug into that outlet for the correct amps, it will still work but will be more like the lame ones in the bathrooms on the Magic/Wonder (the ones hard-wired onto the wall).

All of the ships have pretty crappy hair dryers. I have very long, thick hair and always bring my own. Otherwise, my hair would never get dry!

Fantasy and Dream have BabyBliss hair dryers (I think that's the right brand) and I used them on both ships and liked them just fine! My hair is just below shoulder length.

The hair dryers on the new ships are stronger than the classics. DD and I both have long hair and I have never had a problem with either of them.

I have long thick hair and the hair dryer on the Fantasy was wonderful. I did plug it in wrong (at first), even after reading on the boards about plugging it in the right way. I'll get to test the hair dryer on the Magic next spring. :goodvibes

I plugged the dryer into the wrong plug on the first day of our Dream cruise. I complained to the attendant and she told me about the correct plug and then said the dryer would burn up if its not plugged in correctly. Oops ;)

Funny to see all the different responses here! :rotfl2:

I also have long, thick hair. On our 1st cruise on the Dream in Oct 2011, I took my own along, and never used it! I LOVED the hairdryer in the room!! So, on the Fantasy in Mar 2013, I took the leap and left mine at home. Again, LOVED the hairdryer! I said several times over the 2 cruises how I wish I could have such a great one at home! I never tried plugging them in anywhere but the desk (where it was stashed in a drawer).

So, we leave in 3 weeks on the Wonder. Should I take mine? Guess I might, just in case it is a different hairdryer.

I was so satisfied with the hair dryer on the Fantasy last October, that I am not bothering to pack my hair dryer for our cruise next month.

And here's my tip...I unpack my hair 'stuff' and make-up into the drawers at the desk, and then camp out there after showering to do hair/make-up/lotion/etc. Especially since I'm usually the first one in and out of the shower and the hair dryer plug is there, this has worked out great when the whole family needs to be getting showered/cleaned up in the bathroom(s).

Do NOT count on the driers for the Wonder. If they are like the ones on the Magic.....they are about as good as letting your hair dry with a slight breeze.

I have curly thin hair. It's longer BUT again, it's thin, not thick hair. It took me FOREVER to get it somewhat dry, and I could not get it straight.

I ended up going curly for the week of the cruise. Rather than being disappointed, bring your own. If the Wonder's works for you, great. BUT, do not be caught off guard with the horribleness that is their hairdryer.

Question: is there a mirror by the desk, since that's where the hairdryer is supposed to be used? I need to use a mirror while drying my hair to get it to go right (darn pixie cuts) and not stand up all over the place. :upsidedow

Yes, there is a nice, large mirror over the desk. I blew my hair dry on the Fantasy sitting at the desk, and it works just fine. Lots of light, etc.

Great, thanks! I was worried since it didn't look like there was one in all the pictures I was looking at. :upsidedow

Here you go. This is the Dream, but the cabins are pretty identical except for color schemes.

ETA: Here's one I found from the Fantasy:

Yes! Baby Bliss! Those are nice dryers. I had brought my own because I read bad reviews, but didn't even end up using it. If you plug it in the wrong outlet, it's crap. Did that for about 10 seconds before I read the outlet next to it! :rotfl:
