Hi. My daughter got about 7 inches of hair cut off today when she went for a haircut. They said that it was too short for Locks of Love (they need 12) but that we could probably send it somewhere else. Anyone know of anyplace? I will research tomorrow but I thought if someone might know something offhand.

Thanks.

Mary

I can't help with any recommendations, but for future reference, Locks Of Love needs 10 inches, not 12. At least that is what we were told on Mother's Day. On that day, DD13, her teacher, & 10 other girls from school all met up at the local salon/spa together for "Locks of Love" haircuts. You should've seen the stack of ponytails!

*10 inches minimum is what they also state on their website.

My 4 year old granddaughter also just had her hair cut and donated it to Locks of Love. They also told us 10 inches of hair was the requirement. Sorry I don't know of any other place to donate it.:confused3

As someone else said, Pantene accepts 8 inches. I believe both Pantene and LOL will accept smaller lengths, but they will be sold at fair market value to help offset their operating costs.

Locks of Love is 10 inches. I know because that's what I gave last time I did and that's what I'm almost to again. Regardless, 7 is too short for LOL.

I highly recommend www.childrenwithhairloss.us It is a non profit agency that gives kids with medically related hairloss a new wig (if needed) yearly until 21. They give an off the rack human hair wig to start then do a custom made human hair wig. I know they want at least 8 inches for the human hair wigs. However if you call and talk to them they may be able to use less than that not for an actual wig but to make a band of human hair to wear under a baseball cap.

Pantene will accept hair 8 inches in length. I think locks of love will accept shorter hair. I think they use it for bangs, etc. One of my daughter's friends donated a shorter length than specified and they accepted it.

My daughter donated her hair in November. It's a great thing!!

Wow, thanks for the info. My DS8 (yes, that's him in my avatar) is growing his out to donate, but he doesnt have 10 in. yet. Good to know about the other places that will take it.

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: If you want the hair to actually be used in the wigs, it has to be at least 10" (I believe they say that about 2-4" is used up in the process of making the wig) but they definitely accept shorter donations to offset costs. I have always felt really good about my donations to LOL - I've done it three times now, but I've always done 15" so I don't have any advice on shorter lengths. Good luck finding something that works for you, and kudos to your dd for starting out young - I wish I had been doing this for much longer.

My dd has donated less hair than 10 inches before. It use to be 8 inches when she first started donating and when she hasn't had the whole 10 inches, they still took her hair and said they still donate it, it just isn't used for wigs.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to measure the hair now. I'm sure I can find someplace to take around 7 inches. Once again, Thanks.
