Hair coloring for men?

I've never really considered using hair coloring before, but it seems like now my gray hairs are now outnumbering my normal hair. This doesn't really bother me (or my wife), but since I work a lot with teens, I thought it might be a good idea to try and look a bit younger.
The problem is that I know next to nothing when it comes to hair colorizes. So I figured what better place to get advice then from the DIS.

So let me ask, what would you recommend for me to try? I have normally really dark brown hair, but I keep it cut pretty short. The biggest problem I have with gray hair is on the sides (kind of like the Brett Favre look).
I don't necessarily want to completely get rid of all the grey hairs (although I suppose that could be a possibility), but I want something that looks pretty natural. (not fake). From TV commercials, I've heard about "Just for Men". Is that a good brand to use? Is there something I should be looking for?
How long does a coloring last? How easy (hard) is it to wash it out?
Again, I know next to nothing, and any advice, comments or whatnot would be greatly appreciated.

I think men look super sexy with greying hair.:cool2:

Me too!! My DH was making noises about covering his gray and I asked him not to. Look at George Clooney:lovestruc and I just saw a recent picture of Joey from friends with alot of gray. He looked great!

Nothing much hotter than a *dark haired* man going grey. :thumbsup2 My DH is a blonde and beginning to get some grey in the temple area. Only thing grey does for blondes is make them look washed out and tired. Soooo....DH uses "Just for Men" and it instantly puts him back "alive" looking. :thumbsup2

Seems it lasts about 6 weeks or so and he (actually I do it) matches it to his natural hair color and no one can tell it's been colored. He does avoid covering every grey hair to make it appear even more natural. Love it!

ETA: "Just for Men" is a much faster coloring product than the ones geared toward women. Sometimes we use those and DH gets antsy before time to wash them out. They work as well and are often less expensive, depending on what you buy.

Dude,

From one dude to another. Just roll with it. I have dark hair and it's very noticable where it's getting gray (I'm 43). If you dye your hair it a process you have to keep doing over and over and over again. Ever seen somebody with salt and pepper hair when they dye it and the roots grow out.

My husband started going gray at 22. He has dark brown hair. He just goes with it. And, yes, he also works with teens. He turns 30 this year, and still has more brown than gray, but within 5 years I know he'll be more gray than brown! If you want to color it, be aware that you'll have to do it regularly or you'll have roots showing. Hubby's hair grows so fast that even if he colored it it would grow out very quickly.

I love men with gray hair. :thumbsup2 As Paris used to say That's hot!

+1

Color your hair, and you will have to surrender your guy card. Sorry, man, those are the rules.

Don't color your hair. Gray is much more sexy on guys.

I used to work with a very good looking dark haired guy that was already about 70% gray at about 35. One day he came into work with his hair colored. Every woman in the office hated it and he didn't get one compliment. And it was very well done, but not as attractive as his gray.

A few days later, he came in with his head shaved. He grew it back out and that was the last of the haircoloring experiments.

Okay. DH (almost 54) wants grey on the sides only -- he's greying all over. So he started 6 months ago with a brand I don't remember (but it stunk really badly when he used it!).

After no results, he moved on to Just for Men. It took a long time (a month or so -- very gradual) and the grey is where he wants it. (too bad I can't tell the difference! :lmao:). Good thing is that it doesn't stink when he uses it!

Yes, I liked his hair before, but since he thinks it looks better and it makes him feel better, so I just tell him how great it looks....:)

Didn't he?! I saw that picture, too. I never really found him attractive before, but, wow, he looked hot in that picture.

Good buzz cut usually dispenses with the evidence. Of course I keep cutting mine shorter and soon I'll have a completely shaved knoggin.

Wow, you guys aren't making this easy are you? :rotfl: And since my wife is on your side as well, it looks like I might just have to stay "distinguished"

I gave up my guy card some years ago when I admitted to enjoy watching "Pride and Prejudice" (the BBC one) with my wife.

This looks like it might be the future of my hat holder as well, since it appears that coloring is out of the question. :thumbsup2

my dad's gray hair (on his head) didn't bother him...it was his chest hair that bothered him. :rotfl:

before every summer vacation, he'd have my mom dye his chest hair!

doesn't bother me if i see dyed hair!

Another vote for keep it gray. Hair dye on men is yucky.

As for working with teens, they probably have figured out already that you are over 25, which makes you ancient anyway.
