Once I get on the ship, where would I go to sign my DD for hair braiding? I want her to have it done earlier than we did last time, which was the end of the cruise.

Hello, whenever we sailed, the sign up was done at Preludes....I have seen here some people mentioning right on deck during the sail-a-way..I do believe that it is in your navigator..So, try to get one right away, and perhaps find the times and spot on there. :goodvibes

We were on the Magic from 8/6 - 8/13 and my DD 10 was lucky to get her hair braided. Heard the appts were all booked when we asked about the 3rd day into a 7 day cruise. Our friend's DD 9 was having her hair braided and they called and my DD was able to get her hair braided too. Our friend and her DD just happened to walk by the hair braid station and there was no one there!
Just a warning - to expect hair loss when taking the braids out.
I took out my DD braids out this past Sunday and there was quite a bit of hair loss as I was slowly removing the rubber bands and taking out the braids.

Here's a thought: have it done right before you leave. That way whomever does it can take their time (so it won't hurt as much, if at all) and you can make sure the combs and brushes have just been washed. I'm sure everything is ok on board. I just hated walking by and seeing the little girls wincing to get their braids.

The Disney properties all have a place that will do it. You may have to do to the next property over though.

Just an idea.

Hi. Just got home from the 8/28 4-night Wonder cruise. We had my DD10's hair braided at a local salon before we left for our trip. Our friend's daughter's hair was done on the ship even before the sail-away party began.

Appointments were taken from 2:30 to 4:00 on deck 9 midship, outside by the pools. She was lucky enought to get one of the first appointments. They can do braids, cornrows or hair wraps. They have a book with pictures so you can pick out just what you want.

Also, everyone in Nassau will ask you if you want your hair braided. We politely declined and did not feel harassed in any way.

We signed up on the first day by Preludes. It was relatively easy to get the time/day we wanted.

I would suggest you do a search under this subject, because it seems to come up every few weeks, and there is always lots of debate over it.

DD4 had her hair done on board, and she loved it. It was not painful, and let me tell you - she screams when I even hit a knot. However, there are lot of people who report it hurt a lot, some even give their child tylenol before.

Also, the debate over hair loss is a big one. On one of the earlier discussions, a hair stylist said it is not that the braiding causes hair loss, it's that for the 3-4 weeks that your DD has the braids, the normal hair loss is not falling out - because it's in the braids.

I don't know who to believe, but we noticed no unusual hair loss when I took DD's braids out.

FYI -- last year's Navigators I have, say 'hair braiding 5:30 - 6:30 at Preludes...." it was actually kinda hard to find, had to look through a couple times. it was listed in a box with a heading of "Pin Trading" and a subline of "Merchandise Shops" huh?

anyhoo -- my DD and I just want to get a few braids intermingled in our hair. is this an option? anyone have experience doing this style? pics???

::MinnieMo Hi, Appointments were made by the pool after the sail a way. Our girls got Sun. times after the character breakfast. They all had cornrows-headband style. I am a hairdresser, but part of the sailing experience is getting the braids on board. Yes, it is correct that you will see an accumulation of the normal hair lose of 100 hairs X the number of days the braids are left in. Wet the hair with conditioner & cut each rubberband & the beads & braids should come right out. unbraid each one before you start the next. I didn't see any "breakage" but there is a possibility. Have fun, the convenience of the braids for the little princess: was wonderful. :wave2:
