Our family is going on the 7 day Western Cruise in September. My daughter wants to get her hair braided and would rather do it on the ship than take the time to do it when we are docked somewhere. Can someone who has done the Western Cruise please tell me How and When we can get an appointment for her to do this? Is it like the Palo's reservations??? Is it as soon as your on the ship and where do you go to make the appointment? Thanks for any info on this one.

You will get more responses if you re-post this on the main cruise page...not the trip report page. We just returned from the Eastern...don't really know the answer, but the times were listed in the Navigators and we saw women braiding hair on the "AT SEA" days by the pool.

I read from another posting that they do braiding on board only at the days at sea and they do it by the pool and start at about 9 and it is first come first serve so you might want to get there right away.

They mainly do it on sea days, but they do braid on the ends of the port days. In other words, on the western, you are in Key West at noon on Sunday. They will braid from about 9 to about 1 that day. Grand Cayman day, you leave around 6:00 (from my memory), and they start braiding around 4 ish. You can make reservations, but the reservations are on a first come first served basis. The reservations start at 9:00 on Sunday at the Goofy pool.

My daughter and I had it done on Castaway Cay also...back when they didn't do it on the ships. They did a great job, we got there early and only a short wait. But it still takes too long out of your Castaway Day. I'm Thrilled they are offering it on ship now! :Pinkbounc

Wow, I didn't know they were doing on the "sea" days!!

Our DD had it done on Castaway last July. It took about 2 1/2 hours, counting waiting time!!! She missed lunch, so I went to the BBQ, picked up a plate and some silverware, and brought it to her in line!! She was SOOO embarassed (MOM!!! ), but after I did that, many of the other moms did the same thing for their daughters!!

If you do have her hair braided i would highly recomend that you get some of that spray sunscreen to spray in her hair. I had my hair braided on the last cruise we went on and i got a blistering sun burn on my head!:( It was so bad i ended up taking out my braids early.

If you have young kids, please let them know that the hair braiding HURTS! We didn't bring our kids on our cruise, (we're taking them next May) but we saw so many little girls getting it done that were crying because it was so painful. I'm going to have a serious talk with my kids if they want theirs done and let them know what to expect.

Bonnie...I agree! My one daughter didn't have it done for just that reason. I'm glad she made the choice herself, because she would never have lasted.

My other daughter was very brave, but she'll be the first to tell you IT HURTS! Mommy thought it kinda hurt a little too...but I didn't cry!!

How much is hair braiding? I am going in August on the cruise, and I am bent on getting it done (despite the fact that you all are saying it hurts ;) ) Is it cheaper to get it done on castaway then in nassau? And how long does it take to get the actuall braiding done (not counting waiting time) I was just wondering.

Thankies!

Last year, at Castaway, it was $2 PER BRAID.

DD had 32 braids = $64.00!!
