Hair Braiding in Nassau

I would NOT recommend using the hair braiders in Nassau. We cruised Jan 27-31. I asked the lady how much it cost to have half their hair braided. I have 2 girls. A four year old with short fine hair and a 10 year old with long thick hair. She told me $3.00 a braid. I said that I wanted medium sized braids. They sat the girls down and started messing with their hair. The lady told me that she could not do thick braids, she could only do thin braids. I asked her how much that would cost and she told me $80 per child. $160. My jaw dropped to the floor. I tried to grab my girls and walk away but she stopped me and said that they would do it for $60 a head if I gave her a nice tip. My husband knew that the girls really wanted their hair braided and we had no idea how much they were charging on the ship. So we agreed. My husband stayed with the girls and I went off to find the Rum Cakes. When I got back my the girls were done and my husband looked a little irritated. I asked him what was wrong. He told me that he handed all of the money to the lady who was talking to us. Both my girls each had their own hair braider. He just assumed that he would give all the money to the one lady and they would split the tip. Apparently that was not the case. The other lady got in his face demanding a tip. To avoid any kind of confrontation in a country that we are not familiar with he pulled out his wallet and gave her a $20 and walked off. When I got back to the ship I decided to see how much they charge on the cruise ship for the hair braiding. They ship charges 1.50 a braid and they have absolutely no problem doing any size braids that you would like. evidently the thin braids was just a ploy to get more money. I thought that the braids would last at least a few weeks. They were falling out before we even got home. Just my advice, if you are looking for hair braiders, stick with the braiders on the ship!

I wouldn't recommend the braiders in Nassau either. We were on the Dream in December and as we were walking past the hair braiders they were yelling out to come get my hair braided and I responded with a polite no thank you and one hair braider yells out that I should get my hair braided since it looks like s***! I was in shock and would never recommend it to anyone...especially a child

We had a similar situation in Ocho Rios in Jamaica. I asked for about 20 braids. They charged $2 a braid. As they were doing her hair I realized that there had to be way more than 20 braids to do her entire head. I asked about it, and they pretended they didn't speak English. When they were finished she had 35 micro braids! I was so mad. I paid her in cash $70. She then asked, "Don't you want to tip me?" I said, "Not after I paid you $70!" and I walked away. I will admit, they stayed in about 4 weeks, and she looked super cute.

We had her hair braided on the Magic this past summer. The girl was wonderful and half the price including a nice tip.

My DD's hair did look wonderful, I just wish it lasted longer than a week, especially for what we paid! We are sailing on the Magic next. I will deff use them!

We paid $2/braid on the fantasy. I was dissapointed though that they could/would not do full braids, only half braids.

UGH! So agressive! Never again....

There have been reported cases on this board of kids getting lice from the hair braiders in foreign ports. That's enough for me to only consider it on the ship!

i think it cost $60 on the Fantasy to have my daughters head braided last August...will check with the wife..

My dd10 had her hair wrapped on CC last week. The woman was very nice. It was $2 per inch. It turned out cute!

I have a braiding licence and I wouldn't go near those places when you come off the ships.

Have it done onboard or CC if DCL employee or even before you go as some salons/spas do it.

Hello!!! You have the choice of someone of DISNEY standards doing braids on the ship and Castaway....OR individuals that don't look like they have cleaned any of their combs in years! I shutter even thinking about it. ICK! My .02

I did it on ship--super cute. Took them out after among but they still look cute. Constant swimming etc with them in.

Be careful on CC as well. They do the braids very small. My daughter wanted her whole head braided but they didn't do that on the ship so she just did the front. While on CC we got the back braided. They did them so small that there were 61 braids. At $2 a braid that was $120!

Sorry--after one month

On the ship is the only safe and sanitary way :thumbsup2. DD had her hair braided on the Dream Jan 17 for $5 for two long braids.
