Does anybody have information on getting hair braids or wraps at the parks or at resorts (POP or SSR)? My daughter (10) would like to get a cool hairdo when we get to WDW. I think that the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique would not be for her. We are planning on doing the Pirate and Princess Party during our trip...any and all tips would be appreciated!

We didn't have the hair wraps done (so I don't know about the cost), but they did have a place they were doing them in the lobby right next to the entrance to the Everything Pop store when we were there at the beginning of June. You might check out the BBB too, though, as they have the Pop Princess hairdo that is very colorful and more on the "wild" side if that is more up her alley than the "traditional" princess.

The hair wraps were very expensive at ASMo. They were like $2-3 an inch plus beads, etc. Average is around $30 (for one wrap). The guy was amazingly quick tho..

I called POP and they do not do braids, only wraps. The CM told me that braids were only done at Beauty shops so I should call one of the beauty shops. I think I am going to call American Beauty in the Contemporary and see what's what!

3 out of my 4 girls got the wraps at POR last year....Grand total...$70!!!!!!:scared1:

I about died! It's priced by the inch and each charm adds so much....Each girl picked one charm and 2 colors. One charm fell off on the monorail....actually in the rails...DD3's literally fell off 2 days later from the root. DD7 also fell out about 5 days in...DD9 (the one who lost the charm) kept hers somehow in for over a month.

I loove hair wraps, and I always get them at Disney (they're like my good luck charms). :thumbsup2

The best place to get a hair wrap is at a deluxe resort. For the past...three years or so, I've gotten mine at the Polynesian from the same CM...Katherine is her name maybe?? I don't know, in any case, she gives really good, really tight hair wraps.

When you get your hair wraps elsewhere, it can be hit or miss. Katherine told me that usually they put the new (and inexperienced) hair wrappers in the parks. There is a hair wrap place at the MK (by Pirates), at the AK (on Discovery Island), and at Downtown Disney (in the Marketplace). I believe there have them in the other parks as well, but I'm not quite sure where. (Is it on New York St. in MGM...and then...Future World in Epcot maybe??)

ANYway, the hair warps I have gotten at the Poly have stayed in for three months and they're still perfectly nice. You just have to make sure you don't catch it when you comb your hair. (otherwise the top piece of hair it's attatched to gets all ratty). Hair wraps often fall out quicker with longer hair (they break at the root b/c of the weight of the hair and the string and everything), but mainly, if you take care of it, it stays in for weeks. And then, when it falls out, you can still pin it back in later! (usually it falls out in one piece, or you can cut the hair at the root)

On the other hand, I once got a hair wrap at the AKL (they don't do them there any more) and it fell out the NEXT day!:scared1: I went to another hair wrap place and they replaced it for free, and then it stayed in for much longer.

They have hair wrap stands mostly at Deluxe and Moderate resorts...I've never heard of one at Pop, but we haven't been there in awhile. Maybe call and ask?

If you can, though, I'd definitley advise getting one at the Poly or another deluxe resort. The stands are usually open from 11 or 12 to 5. If you go right at 11 or noon, you can usually get it right away. Otherwise, you might have to wait.

Just general info: You can choose up to four colors, it's $2 an inch. There are tiny beads that are 50 cents each, then more fancy ones that range from $2-4 a piece. THEN you have to get gold or silver spacers to go in between the beads that cost 25 cents a piece(for the little ones that go in between all the beads) and 50 cents a piece(for the big ones that go on the very end - you only ever get two). Oftentimes, though, the CM's won't charge you for the spacers. I don't know if this is bad math or tradition, but it's pretty nice!

It usually takes 10-15 minutes to get a wrap, but there are premade ones with clips that you can buy for $15 a piece or $25 for two (can you tell I've listened to these sale spheles many times?)

Sorry that was so long, I just love hair wraps.

I have to admit, though, that hair wraps don't amount to much of a "hair-do" because it's just the one strand of colored hair. So if your DD wants something more fancy, you might want to thing of getting the hair wrap clips (so you can get more than one to use) or they sell fun hair extensions, clips, crowns, etc. that they use at BBB, but you can just by the extension or clip. They sell those at World of Disney and around the parks (I think...)

As far as I know, they don't do hair braids at Disney, but I could be wrong.

Does anyone have a picture of a hairwrap to show me... I cannot picture what it would look like ??

Sorry that's so bad...I was trying to take it of myself. ;)

These are my previous hair wraps:

AGPrincess, where in POLY did you get them done? We will be there two weeks from today! Thanks!

In November my girls had them done at AK. They lasted a long time.

This is DD getting her hair wrap at MGM:
Disney2007

This was 3 thread colors plus beads to match. You think you are done there, but then the wrap person will all the spacers and an end bead, which add to the cost. The length you see in the phot is almost at the end, and it was $32. We about had a heart attack when we heard, but she wanted it SOOO much, and really didn't ask for many things all week.

She's had it in for almost two weeks now, and it still looks fine.

My DD has gotten a few hair wraps at MGM - by Muppets 3D. (She also likes to get a tattoo there too!!) The wraps have always lasted for at least 2 weeks - and I usually take it out for her. The CMs have always been so nice! DD doesn't get all the beads in hers; it averages about $20.

She's already planning for one when we go in a couple of weeks! (And her hair is much longer now!)

I do remember seeing a hair wrap stand outside Pop Century food court - on the way to the main pool. It'll be about a week into our trip before we're at MGM, so we might try the one at Pop.

It's over in back of the pool bar, sort of in a little hut of it's own. You can also get to it from the walkway along the marina. :thumbsup2

Do you guys know if they have Henna tattoos at POP or anywhere in WDW? I'm sure my daughter would love these too!

When you say the "wrap falls out", do you mean the wrap (string) slips down and off the hair? Or does the entire chunk of hair fall out?!!? :scared1: If we want to remove it, do we have to cut the strands of hair, or just kinda cut the string?

My DD has gotten wraps on 2 past trips, both at the Boardwalk. She had them placed behind an ear rather beginning at the top of her head, and they both lasted more than 6 months. She's looking forward to getting another this summer. :)

That would be cool to do, but my hair is over 40in long so that would cost too much at $2 an inch. :scared1:

It depends on the quality of the wrap and the length of your hair. If it's a good wrap, it may slip down and off the hair naturally after a few weeks/months. If you have long hair, and the wrap is really heavy (b/c of more hair & string), the hair at the root may break and the entire wrap (with hair inside) will fall off.

If you want to remove it yourself, you could cut the hair at the root (then you can wear the wrap later by clipping it back in), you can cut the string at all the knots (then, of course, you can't pin it back in), OR you can take the wrap by the top where it's knotted to the hair and pull it off the hair (this can hurt a little...believe me...I know...;) )

I also got mine behind my ear, and I got sick of it after about two months and cut it out. I dont think it was ever going to fall out.
