For the hair braiding on the Wonder, what are some of the choices for the styles and what is the usual price range?

My DD7 got the "headband" style which cost $22 plus tip. Warning: it is very painful, lots of the girls, including DD, were crying. She says next time she just wants a hair wrap. ;)

The hairbraiders on Castaway Cay are much better. My DD got her hair done there on our 2003 trip and it was AMAZING!!! They have MANY styles to choose from (there are pictures). She didn't want the "headband" so she got a diagonal design. I think it was about $2.00 per braid. She has a lot of hair so it was about 30.00
On our 2004 cruise she got it done on the ship. The woman told me that they don't do the designs that the Castaway Cay braiders do. As a matter of fact, it was sloppy and didn't look nearly as nice. She did cornrows straight back. I took it out as soon as we came home.

We saw kids crying also and heard they were worse coming out. My kids' are still in.

DD had her hair braided and stylsit told us to put conditioner on it BEFORE we took the braids out - we did and it worked like a charm!!!

Do they also do the hairbraiding at Nassau (hopefully I spelled that right).

Yes, they definately do. In fact you will have several people asking you right as you get off the ship. I have long hair, o people asked me often.....

I had my DD's hair braided at Coronado Springs the day before we boarded. The gal there was very gentle. It took an hour for DD's long hair. It was $100 (I know, I know), but the braids were beautiful and stayed in for 8 days without fraying - AND my DD didn't cry or wiggle (which is worth the whole $$$ to me).

and- I didn't have to give up any play time, or worry about clean combs ....

My DD 11 had her hair done on the Wonder last month.

She had the "angled/part" braids done no problem..in fact they had a book with lots of different styles you could pick from.

My daughters braids came to $30.

As for Nassau braiders.... I saw many people on board who had their hair done in town. I saw one that looked good but many more not so goods......

And that trick about taking the braids out with wet/conditioned hair works great...... NO fuzzing at all afterwards.

DON"T get your hair braided in Nassau. You don't know where those combs have been. Plus, they are pushy and rude. The cruise director on the Wonder was joking that they are much like the birds in Nemo (MINE MINE MINE) when you are getting off the ship into Nassau.

I can attest to kaykels statement of "Nassau rudeness". In 2002, while disembarking a ferry boat after the Dolphin Encounter (great excursion by the way!), we experienced a woman on the dock who would not take "no" for answer and physically grabbed my 3 year old DD's arm, while telling me she would braid our hair. Not sure if it was my child screaming for her to let go, or if it was the "look in my eye" that caused her to release her.

Could have been an isolated incident, as I have never read on here where anyone else has had this problem, but it is something to be aware of. Personally, I think island vendors should keep their hands to themselves until you give them the okay that you want their service.

I have a 17 year old babysitter that braids my daughters hair all the time! She is coming over my house on Thursday to braid DD's hair for our upcoming cruise. She does a great job, is very gentle and I know the comb is clean!!
