So when my husband & I got married, his credit was SHOT. He wasn't much for budgeting, he forgot to pay bills on time, so he had a garnishment, etc. Therefore, all the initial bills fell on me...all were in my name. I automatically had all the loans (temporary mobile home, 2 vehicles, not to mention my student loans, utlities, etc.) in my name.

Flash forward almost 7 years later...the garnishment is PAID IN FULL, the notes on his credit report for late payments are GONE, his name has been added to a recent car payment...and now, his credit score is almost as high as mine AND we have been PRE-APPROVED to either build or buy a new house!!!! The only hangup is getting one in the payment range we want...but that's in the process! YAY!!!

And to make this Disney-related...because we've been able to pay off so much that when we take care of our taxes at the end of the year, we'll be able to use some of the returns to take our now 18-month old to WDW around Labor Day next year (when he's almost 3 years old)!!!!!! Happy dance all around!!!!

That is a HUGE accomplishment, especially in this economy. Way to go!!!!!!! And enjoy Disney with your little one...makes all the scrimping and saving so worth it!

We're in a similar situation, all of my DH's negatives are GONE!!! It is so nice to look at his credit report and not see any nasty dings on there. :)

Congratulations as well! That is awesome!
I'm sure it led to many arguements in the past, but you stuck true to your goals and I'm very happy for you! :cool1:

Congrats!! It's a long road... been there.... DH and I met in college. He thought bill paying time was when the collectors called and let him know that he was overdue. He jokes about his friendly reminder calls. I almost fainted when we got married and I found out his car interest rate was 12%. :scared1: I did know that he had terrible credit, that was no secret. We both had tons of student loans. I took over the finances, so everything was paid on time :). Now 10yrs later, it's all good!

What great role models !! Doesn't feel great to have that weight off your shoulders, to be able to know you took responsibility, worked together and paid it off!?! Disney is a great reward, nice going!!

Thanks, everyone!! It DOES feel great to have the HUMONGOUS weight off our shoulders..and to know we are pre-approved to build or buy a house (our only problem is getting the payment down to our price range...we KNOW better than to borrow more than we can pay back!). It would've been so easy in the beginning for him to just file bankruptcy & start over...but it feels SO much better to know we did the responsible thing. :-) And to have Disney for a reward...and taking our son for the first time...that's just icing on the cake!!!

A big Congratulations to you both!pixiedust: On persevering and doing the hard work it takes to fix his credit. You are seeing the payoff. Enjoy it now! Have fun with your little one and looking forward to his 1st Disney Trip, Yeah!:cheer2::cheer2:

More congratulations on accomplishing your goal by "doing the right thing".
You've set a great example. Be sure to let your child know in fifteen years what you were able to do, with a lot of effort.
