My long and faithful side-kick, an emachines desktop, which I got the year they launched XP (came preinstalled before the release date and I couldn't find tech support anywhere!) has passed on. 
In the last month, I had to run system restore, using the recovery disk, three times. I knew that wasn't a good sign. On Friday, the kids turned on the computer after school...and it wasn't starting! It only showed the emachines logo. No matter what I did, nothing. I tried the recovery cds..nope, wouldn't start them. I contacted tech support and their only suggestion was to take apart the mother board (!!!! 
) then reassemble 3 hours later. 
Yesterday, I got a HP at Circuit City....very fancy!! Final price after the $150 in instant savings and another $170 in rebates was $399! I didn't need a printer but since it is all included...I now have a back up!!
Now onto many more happy years of surfing the DIS!!
(and I BIG plus, I have lots more memory....perfect for lots and lots of picture threads!!
