Had some really sad news

Found out last night a friend of ours (mine and DH) died yesterday morning at the grand old age of 41 !!! he collapsed at home, blood clot on the brain, they kept him on a life support machine till 9pm last night and then took him down to theatre for his organs to be taken for donor, I just can't believe it i'm still in shock he was such a nice guy (Tim) i know it sounds horrible but at least there wasn't any kids and plus with him donating his organs someone will get a second chance, DH is really shaken up by the news as he grew up with Tim from the age of 6 and is only one year younger than my DH. His girlfriend found him when she returned home from work, god knows how she is coping and his poor mother, she only lost her husband a couple of years back and now she has the terrible time of burying her son, unfortunately I know what it's like to lose a son and believe me that is one thing you don't expect in your lifetime is to bury your own child, her heart must be ripped apart. Sorry to go on but it's totally shocked me, I know it comes to us all but to happen at such an age just doesn't seem fair, I lost my son at childbirth so in a way he was took the kindest way (if that makes sense) at least that way I didn't get to know him (personallity etc etc).

So my message to everyone today is LIVE LIFE TO THE FULL!!!!!

Hopefully Tim will be looking down and smiling to himself that's what he did, he certainly enjoyed life!!!

i am sorry to hear this, you are right tho we only have one life and its a shame we often take it for granted.
im glad to hear his organs were able to be used at least other peoples quality of life will be improved by this generous act.

I am so sorry to hear your sad news. We have lost several friends in their early 50's in recent years so I know how shocking it is. I am so glad his organs have been donated, although a difficult decision at such a sad time, it's a comfort later on to know they might have helped many people.

A friend of mine from work was killed in a car crash last year she was only 28 years old - 3 years older than myself, since that day I vowed that I would do everything that I want to do and try not to worry about money etc. Life is truly too short.

Oh Sharon, that is so sad. My heart goes out to Tim's friends and family.

Back in March 1996 my husband, aged 40, collapsed at home. I called an ambulance but by the time it arrived, he had regained consciousness and refused to go to hospital. I persuaded him to go to our Doctors that afternoon and she decided, because of his history of migraines, he should see a neurologist. To cut a very long story short, he was diagnosed in the May with 2 cerebral aneurysms. He was admitted to hospital in July where the first was clipped. The second was embolised in the September.

When he had his surgery in July I was sitting in the family room outside ICU waiting to be let in to see him. A gentleman approached me and asked if I had a loved one in there. I said I did - my husband. I asked who he was waiting for news of and he said "sadly my son - he was gardening and collapsed with a brain bleed after an aneurysm burst. We are waiting for the rest of the family to arrive from Australia as there is no hope." His son was the same age as my husband. He hugged me and wished my husband well. The following day his son's life support was switched off. There isn't an anniversary of Jim's surgery that I don't think of that family and give thanks that Jim is still here. I can only hope that time has eased their grief.

Tim will live on in the people who were lucky enough to receive his organs and I am sure quite a few lives will be forever changed for the better because of him, not just of the recipients but their families and friends too. What wonderful parting gifts he left behind. I hope his girlfriend, friends and family can find comfort in that.
