Because unlike those folks with a DAS, they have no choice but to wait in the line if they want to ride.

Or they could choose to rope drop or ride at closing, or just not ride that particular ride. Honestly, without DAS this trip or FP on other trips, we just wouldn’t have ridden those rides. I just can’t see waiting that long for any ride. This has nothing to do with my son’s difficulties with waiting in lines. It’s just my opinion that no ride is worth waiting that long for, particularly when you have to wait outside in the heat.

That makes no sense. If they wait the same time with fast pass, or das ? As standby what is the point of either of those ?
If you are saying those with das wait the same as those without das because of return times that still isn't correct. The poster was asking why people stood in the hour plus lines. The answer is, those without das don't have a choice. They can't request a return time. They either get a fast pass, if it is available, or they stand in the long line.

Couldn't the same thing be said to you? That if your child can't handle the line you should just skip it? Or you should just use fast pass, or rope drop? Seems like you could just skip the das, after all the park lines are manageable with your plan, right?

I am a bit concerned if they didn’t even ask him to describe what his needs are, though. If they’ve gotten to the point where some CMs are just handing out DAS to anyone who says they want one, we’re going to end up in the same boat we did with the previous program.

I'm not judging people for waiting, I'm just amazed that people can do that. I honestly don't know how people wait in lines for that long. It's not just that my son isn't able to because of his conditions, I just couldn't do it. If you can, especially if you have kids who are able to, that really amazes me. And when I said they could skip the ride, I was responding to the comment that people have to wait in really long lines because they don't have DAS. My comment was that they don't have to wait in lines. It's a choice. This was the first time we ever used DAS in the 15 years I've been going to both WDW and DL with my son. In all those years, we skipped long lines many, many times. But if you can wait in longer lines and it's okay with you, then do it.

When my son first approached the CM, he told him he wanted to get a DAS pass. The CM at that point didn't ask him why he needed it and instead started explaining what the pass was for and how it worked. At that point my son told him he had a lot of anxiety and trouble waiting in line, and the CM said he understood, and that was it. So my son did say why he needed it, it was that the CM hadn't explicitly asked him. I'm not sure if he would have at that point if my son had already explained it, or if my son's very anxious manner also helped him to understand why he needed it.

I’m really glad your son has DAS for when he needs it and that you’ve been able to support him to the point where he can advocate for himself. That’s honestly amazing!

I wait in line. It’s what I did as a kid at amusement parks and at Disney in the 1990s. If I couldn’t wait, we didn’t go.

My 8 and soon to be 6 year olds waited for Tower of Terror for 60-85 minutes this year (in May 2021 and previously in November 2020) because they wanted to go on it. If they didn’t wait, they weren’t getting on it. We were very clear that, if they complained or whined, we were going to get out of line and leave the park. They understood and they handled it. They either had to wait or not go on it. There was no other choice.

I don’t think it’s amazing at all that they waited. It’s just something they knew they needed to do and so they did it because it got them what they wanted (a ride on ToT). But my kids are neurotypical so it’s easier for them to wait and to figure out ways to handle the wait (we make up silly games, we recap our trip by discussing highlights and what they want to do next, we talk about random things, we tell silly stories, etc.) than it would be for a neurodiverse person.

I think that those of us who have gone several times have a different outlook. Many visitors have never been and want to be able to go on as much as possible, and that means waiting in line. For you or me, it might not be "worth it", but to many other's it is. I won't wait that long for a ride because I have been on them all numerous times, but why would first timers go to a theme park and not go on the majority of the rides because there is a line? It's like paying to go to a baseball game and watching a movie on your phone instead of watching the game.

The previous program, didn't they have people selling their services of "skipping long lines" to others? At least with this program, you can only have 5 guests added and they are actually linked to you or they cannot get on with you.

With Maxpass, if you rope drop and fully work the system within the rules, you could do every attraction, except shows like Tiki room, etc. by no later than 2 PM without ever needing to use a DAS. And the shows are only because some are long.

That might work for people who can be there at rope drop; that is not our situation.

Is there some reason you can't be at rope drop? I'm always confused by people who say they are incapable of getting there early due to a disability. Unless your disability is reverse vampire syndrome getting up early is always possible. Taking a long time to get ready doesn't seem to be a legit excuse. Families with a lot of kids and only one hotel bathroom to use also take a long time to get ready. Disney ain't giving them a get out of long lines pass

Still the das is a big advantage to park touring. If a ride has no more fast pass times available for the day a non das guest either stands in the standby line, or doesn't get a ride. The das guest gets a return time equal to the standby minus 10 minutes. While they wait for that time they can go on a schedule fast pass ride, get something to eat, shop etc.
That is why they really need to limit this pass, and giving it out to anyone who asks for it is a bad idea

One reason may be sensory and anxiety issues that the ropedrop experience exacerbate. Other reasons like medical issues that make schedules less flexible around early morning routines.
